Best of luck to you thats a serious challenge! I hope you can stay at it... and who know maybe you can change it like once every 6 months.

Happy Hair Growing and best of luck on your personal challenge

Good luck, this sounds like a super-effective challenge :yep:

If the "straight" bug bites you, think roller-set!

I think I will join you on this one...I have gone 3 years without heat just wearing tight ring curls and I am already in a 2010 rollerset challenge..so...why not? I may flat iron once every 4 months after my retouches for lengh checks only....and on 2nd thought I can just do wet length checks..I did however, just order my Maxiglide but I can test it out on my daughter's hair.

I'd like to say that I wouldn't for a whole year but I'd be lieing. I would like to join you for the first month and see how I do. If I do well then you can put me down for another.:yep:I have to take it sllllooooowwww.

Just pooping in to encourage you.

I went without direct heat for well over a year and my hair thanked me... I was also stretching.

This is a good goal. I would join you but I want to play with my flat irons next year.

I never really used heat this year so 2010 will be my year to experiment and learn how to flat iron. I plan on using heat once a month.

+1

I straightened twice last year and my sessions last the whole day as well. I'd like to get to the point where its easier for me to straighten and if I go too long I may never get there.

You can do.

I also have the same no heat 2010 New Year's resolution among other things.

Good luck

I am on my own personal no heat challenge too I get to cheat every 3 months when I blow out my hair for my installs. Good luck to you!!

Just wanted to wish you luck! I would die if I couldnt use a heating tool for a year straight. I don't even use heat all that much, but this is a SERIOUS CHALLENGE. You are an inspiration!!

I'll join you! Here's to a year of no heat!

Regimen: still a work in progress, but as of this year it will be KeraCare shampoo and dc (protein: ORS; moisture: KeraCare Humecto/Nexxus Humectant) 1x week, cowash 2x week if need be, moisturize ends daily with roots of nature shea butter and green tea moisturizer and olive oil, prepoo with olive oil and coconut oil. Hot oil treatment when needed.
Protective/low maintenance styles: rollersets, flexirod sets, braidouts, twistouts, buns.

Wow are you not even doing rollersets - kudos that sounds like quite a challenge indeed.

As for direct heat such as flat ironing. I could do it, but I have an event to go to in March and I want to have my hair straightened for that. Could probably do it for the rest of the year however.

Good luck with it though! :)

I was waiting for a 'no heat challenge' I will be using minimal heat in 2010, I will only blow dry my hair before getting it braided because I don't trust the braiders to comb through my natural hair.

Great!
I just gave away my CHI iron (so I won't fry my hair whenever I get bored) so I will definitely jump on this with you.
I promised to get myself a new one when I reach BSL :yep:

Mind if I join you on this one? I just finished straightening my hair for my January length check. As I'm doing it, I realize that I really don't like my hair straight and I really don't want to do this again. So, I decided I won't do this again at least until July. Anywhoo if you want company, we can make it an official challenge and see if anyone wants to join us.

I would like to join this challenge. I am in Iraq for a year, and everytime i wash my hair, i always let it airdry. I NEED AN OUT THOUGH FOR TWICE THIS YEAR!!!! Once, when I go home for my Leave in may and then again for my wedding in December. I havent had any heat to it since the end of December, so I will keep going.

I have been heat free for almost 4 months, I am trying to make 2010 a totally heat free year. I am anticipating a head of much healthier hair, just have to stay focused.

you can do it!! heheh
i went without heat for like 2 years..
It helped my hair a lot.. so i think it's worth it. ;)

ive been without direct heat since november, so its been like four months. It seems much longer, but i have no real urge to straighten my hair till the end of the year. I have noticed my hair is alot thicker though.

I need to get on this challenge and put away my flat irons and curling iron at least for a couple of months. I did it for a month and my hair thrived so much. So back to the flexi roddin and curlformers. I want to try steam rollers but doubt will have to see how the curls with last with me workin out. I have to find something.

Similar experience here. I had to do a serious dusting (like almost an inch on the ends of some of my mini-plaits) last December to get rid of thin heat damaged ends, and I don't wanna have to do it again any time soon!!

Count me in. I've been heatless so far this year. I just dried my hair on cool setting to dust my ends today. It's the first time I've seen my hair dried since teh begginning of this year. I'm cowashing and wet bunning and so far, I'm not tempted at all to wear my hair out. 'course that could be because I'm too lazy to go through the trouble of drying, flat ironing and curling my hair. If I want to wear my hair out, I have a couple of wigs on standby.

I will need a heat pass in June as I plan to wear my hair out for the first time this year on my birthday. The day after, I'm back in a bun. :saythat:
Adding this to my list of challenges.
