Am I the Only Person That does NOT use Shampoo???

I used to not use any shampoo, but since I wear buns everyday with hair gel I have to shampoo once a week to clean my hair. If not I get some terrible build up.

I love shampoo :look: I can't help it. I don't even use ones that are that healthy but the sudsing feels so good even though I know its not good for me :perplexed:

when I tried to CW only my scalp itched so much...I just feel like my hair isn't getting clean with just CWing. I mostly use shea butter and even then, I like the feeling of squeaky clean hair (even if it is a little hard :giggle:)

So question..
Let's say you just took out a weave or some braids and its been a while (3-4 months) since you have really been able to get to your scalp...you ladies still don't use shampoo? I have noticed that shampoo tends to dry my hair out but I feel like when I take down my installs I NEED to wash and feel the lather on my scalp...

I don't think a lot of the women saying that they're no poo wear braids or weave...

but! whenever I take out my cornrows or braids, I always clarify with bentonite clay. :yep: so, its doable. (I know what you mean about needing to feel the lather though)

:look: I get too much build-up if I don't shampoo at least once a week. Cowashes are good, and I do them once or twice a week mainly for moisture and minimal cleansing, but I feel like they don't clean my hair as well as a good old shampoo. I always follow up with a deep conditioner anyway. To each their own though :).

I co-wash and then deep condition. The co-washing is for getting my hair and scalp clean. The deep conditioning is for the moisture and/or protein.
I have a feeling many people are conditioning their hair and calling it co-washing. I keep reading, "I put the conditioner on, let it sit a while, and rinse." If people did this with shampoo, I doubt they would feel their hair and scalp are clean either.
Just my 2 cents.

I used to be a no-pooer, but now I love my shampoo, sulfate-free once weekly. Gets my hair clean and, imo, helps my conditioner penetrate better leaving my hair feeling softer.

For those of you that use Baking Soda only, how do you apply it to your hair to wash (Do you put it in a spray bottle, pour it over your whole head and wash etc.?) Also do you spray on your scalp and hair or just concentrate on your scalp and let it run down your hair?

I use an old shampoo bottle, squirt on my scalp, massage, then rinse.

I use to no poo but after awhile the buildup was intense. My hair was dull and my scalp had white stuff on it. I had to clarify with the rough stuff. Not to mention I live in a hard water area. But, lately I have been using diulted castile soap. I recently read an article that stated castile soap can be acidiyfied with a little lemon juice or vinegar. Im still researching/experimenting with castile.

I agree. I only use CON or some other conditioning shampoo. I have WAY too much build up with conditioner alone.

UGH CON gives me more buildup than co-washing... I can never even rinse it out all the way it just gets stuck in my new growth...cant wait to be done with the darn bottle.

Well, I know I need to clarify. If don't cleanse my scalp of all product buildup at least twice a week, it smells like wet dog when dampened and blesses me with white stuff under my nails when I scratch. I tried conditioner washing about 5 years ago and my hair looked dull and my scalp stank! I'm currently trying some pre-poo routines to protect my hair, but not shampooing isn't an option right now. I'm trying to master washing just my scalp without using half a bottle of shampoo. Someone recommended a bottle with a nozzle so that I can apply right to the scalp. I'm going to get one at the BSS sometime in the next few days.

cowashing doesn't work for me too much build up BUT I am going to start not using shampoo I'll be trying indian powders instead. What do you ladies use instead of poo?

Ok, silly question.. :spinning: How do you know if your hair has to much build up.. Does ur scalp itch or hair stinks?? and how did you know co-washes didnt work for u?? TIA:yep:

I can not imagine a regimen without shampoo. My scalp gets an icky film on it without regular shampooing. Cowashing does not remove build up for me.

I was never able to stretch my relaxers until I started washing my hair with baking soda. Shampoo always makes my new growth a little hard. Washing with baking soda makes my hair, even my new growth, really soft.

I know that this is an old thread but perhaps someone knows. How do you wash your hair with baking soda? How much do you use?

Never mind, I found it on the net. 1 TBSP baking soda to 1 cup of water. And then rinse with an ACV rinse.

I can't. I have and use 4 different shampoos on my hair each with its own purpose. Sure I could probably go a month without shampooing but I have itchy scalp and dandruff will eventually take over my hair. I will at least need my dandruff shampoo. Plus I like shampooing, sulfates, and bubbles.

My daughter has 3b/3c hair that stayed dry as the Sahara. I put her on a no poo reggie about 2 months ago and her hair feels like brand new. I do however scrub with the conditioner instead of just letting it sit. She's six so I'm sure if her scalp was itchy she would complain all day everyday lol.

Sent from my HTC EVO using LHCF. any spelling errors should be blamed on auto-correct.

No Poo for me, thanks! That just don't work for me, or my boys. Makes my hair HARD...like Brillo. When I was relaxed it was fine, but my natural hair Hates shampoo with a Passion. Doesn't matter what kind it is.

I have found that using co-cleansers cleans my scalp and hair, but doesn't leave it all dried out and nasty. It's cowashing that actually cleans your hair! Ever since I stopped shampooing, my hair has become the hair I actually always wanted, and could never get. I started seeing curl definition, and now my hair actually forms curls! Yay!

I have been co-washing with Aloe vera gel, olive oil or castor oil daily for the last two weeks and I will shampoo once a month. So far so good.

No poo from the beginning of this year. Co-cleanse, mudwash, or an ayurvedic mix that includes shikakai are my cleansers of choice.

I haven't used shampoo in years. I use mainly water or my bootleg mud wash (Queen Helene Clay Masque). Shampoo leaves my hair stripped and dry.

Wow, since 2009 in OCT. I stopped using sulphates and tried out Hair cleansers, been using them every since :)

Wen Girl for life! 613 girl for life too :giggle:

I clarify when needed maybe once a month or less. But I find that when I wash my hair with Joico nourish, my hair and scalp gets just as clean as when I use shampoo. In my experience all conditioners do not cleanse the same, some do feel like they just add to the build-up no matter how much you wash.

Like someone else mentioned earlier...I really wash my hair with the conditioner (scrub my scalp), not just put it there, let it sit then rinse.
