I'm sad that I have not seen any Black women dancing at this. I've seen at least two men. :(

Thanks Enyo for posting these videos. It reminds me of one of those 'Independent' films I saw a couple of years ago about the men competing in the Merrie Monarch. The men's dancing is amazing!!! If I can recall, I think that the men were the original Hula dancers. Here's a video of the 2009 winners!

Absolutely LOVE this thread!!! I was gonna do hula with a group out here in San Diego. Just haven't gone yet... They mean serious business.

I long to visit Hawaii and other hot, tropical places. The Hawaiian women are very beautiful, and Enyo I THOROUGHLY enjoyed watching the dancing and the hair! What precision! I am not of Pacific Islander race, but have been asked many times if I am Polynesian/Hawaiian, so I took a special interest in the culture. IDK if I could live there, because of the sky-high cost of living and shipping from the contiguous U.S. and Europe, but I sure as heck would try (oh, and I ABSOLUTELY HATE spiders)! Humid, tropical weather is the best for my hair, body, and skin. 70-80's with 70-90% humidity is my favorite weather.

Those men are sumthin' scrumptious, and fine! I love gazing and daydreamin' about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Troy Palomalu. There's just something about a man with a hard body, a tan, dark hair/eyes, and a few tattoos. Oooh wee! Somebody get me a fan! :) Oh, and my goal length is mid-thigh length...that soloist "Bernice," is to die for! I'd love to be her size and have her length (tryn to gain me some weight)!

Question: Do you think hair that length is practical? I mean, I think it's lovely when they are dancing and it only adds to their femininity. But it seems like so much work. I can't imagine how much time and how many products it takes to keep your hair that long and that lovely. How often do you think they wear it down?

You know, I thought the same thing when it comes to her weight. She's so curvy and womanly. Her shape is perfect, IMO. And the hair only adds to it. It's wonderful to see voluptuous woman being revered. If she were on the mainland, she'd probably be seen as pudgy or something.
