So i was looking at the ingredients on my shampoo to see if it has a chemical that was safe to help wash away certain cones (forgot the ingredient) and I stumbled upon DMDM which is formaldehyde. I'm so sad, this shampoo is awesome for me. But if it's hazardous it's not worth it. Can anybody revive my feelings and explain formaldehydes in small amounts in products... is it still hazardous?

If not ... what's the best sulfate free shampoo!?
I don't want to have to purchase off the internet and I need something that is not lover $20! I'm seriously sad. I thought I found my staple, but not if it's going to cause my health issues!

i wish i could help you with that, but i stoped using shampoo,i do co washes only.

but im sure you will find a replacement.

I'd say the best would be anything by giovanni or a poo bar.
As for the ingredient I haven't the slightest but I'd type formaldehydes in shampoos in google and see.

hair one is moisturizing but i feel it doesn't get my scalp clean especially if I use cones. I only tried the olive oil one so maybe the others may be different.

that's what i did, and that's why I'm so sad lol. I was hoping somebody would come in and say, "they are okay." lol!

has anybody tried this?
I have this as a body wash, and I may be kicking myself right now for not trying ti on my hair. I read a girl's blog saying she liked it on her hair!

There's unsafe chemicals in just about everything, even food (pesticides).
In very small amounts they are not dangerous, and you're gonna rinse it off anyway. We get way too serious and scary on here.

You've been using shampoo all of these years and you're okay. I'm sure you've used that very ingredient without knowing it many times before.

lol true.
I would still like to try to find things that aren't potentially dangerous. I am all about preventative measures. My hair was a hot mess prior to LHCF lol,but I can't really blame it on the shampoos. :lachen:

lol I can taste the poison. I usually rinse them. TRUST me, I get freaked out about a lot of stuff. My mum tells me about stuff and has me wanting to just drink water (and even water usually has issues lol)

Even rinsing the apples doesn't help, because they start spraying the fruit and vegetables with the pesticides when they are really small and they continue until they are picked. So you know that stuff soaks into the fruit and veggies.

They even put pesticides on the fruit and veggies to kill or keep away the bugs from eating the vegetation, and they do that when they are only seeds. We got chemicals all up in our food.

Let's not start talking about meat and hormones. They pump sooo much stuff in meat!

Sorry to put a damper on things. LOL

lol I know.

=(

And I really hate eating meat for that reason alone. Especially beef. :wallbash:

I'm sure the minute amount of formaldehyde isn't enough to do any damage for the 30 seconds you have it on your head

I'd have to agree with the above poster's points on veggies, meat and hair. I never thought I'd put those three in a sentence on LHCF, LOL!

I think shampoo's overated. I read somewhere that you can get your hair like 90% clean with just warm water. I try different shampoos every so often, but usually come back to just BS/Honey/Water.

Miss America contestants avoid shampoo for days leading up the pageant to get smoother, shinier hair--of course in most cases we're talking about a different type of hair, but still. IMO, shampoo takes away grime, product build-up, etc, but it also takes away some of the good stuff.

I use hair one tea tree oil and I'm a fan. It makes your hair tingle. I'm trying to use healthier things on my skin and hair. I just started using Dr Bronners soap on my skin because I started breaking out from regular soap.

Is HairOne gentle and moisturizing?

I have 12 bottles of hair one 4 Jojoba, 6 olive oils and 2 tea tree. I love it, I use it for 1-2 shampoos and my hair is always soft, rinse well though :D

I also use NTM leave in after very good combo!

Formeldahyde is in most toothpaste, face creams and lots of other products you use. I'd not worry about it. Chemicals is in everything from the Bleached out water we get from our tap ( I CAN SMELL IT) to the food we put in our mouths.

This always frightens me lol.
I use Tom's toothpaste. But now that I look at it it has sodium laurly sulfate lol. There is no stopping these chemicals.

Do you ever feel the need to clarify or does your BS/Honey/Water combo do the trick? I've never clarified before. I just am not sure of if that is why my hair used to feel like it didn't take in moisture well. I believe my area has hard water + I now use a no-lye relaxer, so how do you remove calcium buildup?

Thanks for the input! :yep:
