Because I don't feel like making two threads :look:

For Valentine's day I straightened my 4 a/b natural hair. I cleansed, dc'd, pony set and let it air dry first. I used Identity's "The Whip" hair moisturizing cream and Sabino Moisture Block to flat iron.

Then on this past Friday I bought two big balls of yarn and decided to these yarn braids yall have been raving about. It took FOREVER only b/c I had to keep stopping to do mommy stuff and go to work. But I finished today. I used the three strand method. I prepped by conditioning with Aphogee 2-minute and moisturizing with some shea butter and conditioner mix I had in my closet. I haven't burned the ends yet. I just put them in hot water...don't know if that's enough though.

Thanks for viewing :yep:

Great job

Yarn Braids are new to me. I have a few questions, if you don't mind answering them.

Is yarn less drying to the hair?

Is it less expensive to use?

Is this method similiar to the threading method that they use in Africa?

How long should you leave them in?

Thank you.

you guys are so resourceful. dang, why cant i do braids on my own?

Good job, man. I'm going to watch Tinnell do weave tomorrow so I can learn for good.

Oh, wow, I don't think I've ever seen yarn braids before, they look really nice.

Your flat ironed hair looks very healthy too, how often do you do that?

I like the flat iron and the yarn braids. I'll definitely be on the lookout for your answers to the above posted questions. I'm tinkering with the idea of the yarn braids too.

I want some yarn braids, you did a good job. I wanna try but scared I'll get after 10 braids and then it will all be for nothing. Somebody needs to braid my hair serious HIH syndrome.

Good morning yall and thank you!

You should try it, if I can do it anyone can :yep:

This is the second time I've flat ironed sine I bc'd last April. The first time was in September.

To be honest....I'm not sure. Based on the tutorials and blog posts that I've read everyone spritzes their hair with some sort of moisturizer everyday. I would assume that if you didn't keep up with moisturizing it could be just as drying as sythetic hair.

Is it less expensive to use?

Depending on the type of hair you would normally use, I say yes. Two big balls of 100% ACRYLIC (never use wool yarn it will lock your hair!) cost me $5.

Is this method similiar to the threading method that they use in Africa?

Actually I believe it's different. I don't think they braid it in, I believe they wind the yarn/thread around sections of the hair. I'll try to find a pic.

How long should you leave them in?

personally, I plan to leave them in for two months, take them out do a henna and dc and then put them back in. I'm lovin these things so far.

Thank you.

Good for you!!! I wish that knew how to do installs-I don't do braids, but it seems like a good side hustle!
