Has anyone put banana on thier hair?

There are several hair mask and DC recipes that include a banana as an ingredient. When I incorporate a banana into my DCs, I use a stick blender to break it down and make sure it is well blended into the concoction. Sometimes I just use pure banana babyfood and you can order banana powder from new directions or garden of wisdom.

Yes I have. Suburbanbushbabe, gave me a great idea of using BABY FOOD banana instead of chunks of banana that is mixed in the blender. I've read so many horror stories of people having a hard time getting chunks of bananas and avocados out of their hair LOL Baby food type of pureed bananas is much easier to mix and apply to your hair. HTH!

I do, on a regular basis, as banana is a key ingredient in my Caramel Treatment recipe. :yep: I use the baby food though - longer shelf life, cheaper, no chunks. ;)

LOL I did once. Had the chunks in the fro for a while. Not again...
Do the babyfood please!

Bananas are a great source of protien. I remeber an hour before every cross country met in high school our coach would make us eat a banana! lol

I have done it. A banana and avocado mask. It made my hair soft. I had no problem getting the banana out the avocado no totally different story. I'll be using my blender next time.

Hmmm, well haven't tried it but the baby jar thing sounds doable. Bananas are def. god for the heart, loaded with Potassium, we recommend them to our heart patients all the time so sounds like a winner 2 me.

Uh, banana's have virtually no protein in them. :look: They are however, an excellent source of potassium, which helps reduce cramping and muscle stress, and I suspect that's why your coach made you eat them. A quick shot of carbs to fuel you during the race, and a little extra potassium to ease the after-race soreness.

As someone who once had to pick little banana chunks outta her hair, I'd say go with the baby food!

Girl I'd pay to see a picture of that :lachen:

One warning on the baby food, keep it away from children. I had to fight my kids for it, they wanted to eat it! Imagine the nerve

Yes. The Carmel Treat has bananna... =) I did not like the baby food - but - to each his own. I have found bananna seeds up to a week later......:look: lol

Yes your right i ment potassium which is an essential electrolyte and gives energy like protein does!

 yep I've been there. I still got stringy bits even when I blended the bananas tho. Baby food banana is a good idea. the baby food is pureed extra smooth and heated before its put into the containers, so all the little fibrous bits should be broken down.

What is this "caramel treat?"

Uh, I'm assuming that I can offer a link to my blog (doesn't sell anything! Doesn't have GoogleAdSense on it! I make no money from it! Please don't banniate me!! :lachen:) that has the recipe I love - I think me and LM use a slightly different recipe - but the outcome is the same - moisturized, luscious, shiny hair. :yep:

I bought my baby food banana for my DC this coming weekend. I think I'm going to add it to honey, AOHSR and CON.

ETA: I mixed up just what I said plus some castor oil and porosity control. Ya'll will hear from me Sunday or Monday.

USE the pureed baby food type bananas...save yourself the hassle.

Here's my favorite so far. I simply use the babyfood pureed bananas and carrots. Also I use peppermint essential oil(just a few drops)

Carrot banana hair conditioner is a simple recipe that combines the restorative properties of natural ingredients to produce shine, health and luster. The carrot is rich in vitamin A and antioxidants that stimulate growth. Banana restores and rejuvenates its natural shine and softness. Honey conditions and restores, while peppermint stimulates growth. Have this hair conditioner ready for your next hair care treatment.

.Difficulty: Moderately EasyInstructions.
Things You'll Need:
•3 carrots
•1 ripe banana
•Honey
•Mayonnaise
•Peppermint
•Water
•Blender
•Container with lid
•Towel
Step
1)Steam or boil 3 washed and chopped carrots in 1 cup of water until tender. Fifteen minutes may be long enough to soften the carrots. If you have the green carrot leaves, we will use them in this recipe as well. You do not have to cook this part of the carrot for the hair conditioner.

Step
2 )
Pour the carrot and water into a blender, and blend until almost smooth. Add fresh or dried peppermint to the blender and blend.

Step
3 )
Add the banana and blend until smooth and creamy. The banana and carrot composition will give the hair conditioner a lot of body.

Step
4 )
Next, add 1 teaspoon of honey and 1/2 cup of mayonnaise to the blender. Blend all ingredients together, making a smooth and creamy hair conditioner.

Step
5)Spoon the mixture into a jar with a lid, and store in the refrigerator until your next shampoo.

Step
6)Add a generous amount after shampooing, making sure to massage the hair conditioner in well. Wrap with a towel and leave in for 15 minutes to 2 hours. Rinse and towel dry.

Been using the body shop's "banana" shampoo for the last two weeks...

I ended up adding a few drops of peppermint essential oil. I dont know if the banana made things different or not. I DC'd with this mixture, washed with Nizoral and then did another condition with Nature's Gate Jojoba.

This was also the first time I used the Nature's Gate Jojoba as an after-wash conditioner. I also took my flat iron temperature down from 400 to 340. Sadly, there are too many variables to be sure the banana made a difference.

I will try next time without banana. :yep:

ETA: My hair is very soft, but I thinking trying without the banana will be telling.

I have and I like the result. My hair seemed fluffier. My recipe was one banana, a little yogurt, and avocado oil. I blended it in my magic bullet until it was liquid and put it on my dry hair before washing it. I only lathered up once and I didn't have any problem with banana bits in my hair.

I love making my own hair products and this is a keeper.

Yup, I kept using the banana, and my hair was fluffier. I haven't used it in about a month though.
