I've had my sew in for about two months now..and i don't want to take it out. It still looks good..and besides the hair cost a lot. I really want to keep wearing but i don't want to sacrifice the health of my hair. So ladies..even if your weave still looks fresh..when is it time to say good bye??

I don't wear weaves, but if yours stills looks fresh and you are caring for your hair underneath, why not go for another four weeks. Anything beyond three months may be a bit too much on your hair though.

If you honestly feel like you've been taking excellent care of you hair underneath, you could go another 3 or 4 weeks. I wouldn't go past 3 months though.

Hmm... have you had a history of your hair matting or locking up easily? If so, take it down now. Some posters have experienced more matting than usual when they are washing and moisturizing a lot under a weave. Better safe than sorry!

If you haven't had a history of this happening to you, why not keep it a few more weeks?

that's the thing..i haven't been really taking care of my hair underneath..i've been bad. I don't know what's wrong with me. i hope my hair hasn't suffered too much.

It really depends on how your weave was installed. Some people can go for 4-5 months with no damage and other people get matting after two months. Do your braids have synthetic hair added to them? Do you know if the ends were properly secured? Do they still feel intact underneath your weave? These are all factors.

i do my own sew ins. I used synthetic hair in my braids..the ends were secured..and the braids are still perfectly braided..

i would say take it out now, by your own admission you have been neglecting it so its prob
due a good wash and DC. Just because the weave hair looks healthy does not mean your hair is itself healthy.

ETA: Also if you install carefully and take down carefully you can just wash and DC the hair with silicon mix and re-install so the cost argument just disappears.

if you do your own sew in then just re-do it. to be honest, my hair does well when i igg it completely. my hair never matts under weave. i'll just have a lot of shed hair.

@ the bolded....Bad girl! :spank:....U knew this was coming lol

But I would keep it in at least another week....why.....so that you can wash and dc/ moisturize that hair underneath B4 takedown.

You need to give your strands a fighting chance at retention...takedown can be stressfull on the hair. I have found it is a lot easier to takedown healthier hair that it is to take down dry hair.

All isnt lost....you would not be the first nor the last to neglect hair under a weave, but please be nicer to your hair in the future :yep:

Usually 6-8 weeks is recommended. So you're right around that time. I would rather be safe than sorry and just take it out now and re-do it.

Detantangle and remove the shedded hair throughly before washing!! No setbacks!

If your hair is really curly or thick you have greater chance of tangles and matting, it's a bad experience I wouldn't wish it on anyone. You shouldn't go past 3 months but personally when I wore sew-ins I didn't go passed 2 months otherwise it was a 3 hour long detangling marathon

Take it out. Better safe than sorry, especially if you know you haven't been taking great care of your hair. If the hair still looks good/is in good condition, you can re-use it.

The maximum amount of time I would leave mine in is 8 weeks. That is pretty rare for me though. It is usually more like 4-6 weeks, because I like to see and feel my hair and I always get full sew-ins when I get weaves.

If the hair is nice you can always wash and reuse it.

I agree with everyone 3 mths max, unless you know your hair
