when is it time to let go of the sew-in??

Ok I have been wearing my sew in for about 2 months now, and I want to rock it for another 3 months. Now do yall have a time limit of your sew in or do you rock it til the wheels fall off..(or better yet,til the tracks fall off). I don't want to be the next chick in the Dr. Miracle ad..with some jacked up hair. So tell me what the deal is..

I never wear a sew in more than 2 months, even less if i'm not feeling lazy. I do them myself so the average is a month

yall i bought a lacefront, and i was already to put it in. Then I was like..hmm I can wear these tracks for another 3 months..aka I got lazy..lol

I usually wear mine 2 months. I'm trying to go a full 3 months now (My current sew-in was installed on 3-17). I'm itching to take it down and do a length check but I'm trying to ride this one out until the wheels or tracks fall out.

The key for me is changing up the style. I go back in forth from straight to curly (new tracks but same cornrows). I order some dreadlock removal cream to help with the matting once I do decide to take them down.

Right now I need some motivation to keep them in. I'm praying for incredible growth and that shock factor once I do take it out. I figure the longer I keep it in the more pleasantly surprised I'll be. Hopefully, I can hang in there.

I have never seen anyone keep a weave in for 5 months without serious matting, tangling, and having to cut hair out...especially if they wash their hair because then the person's real hair is constantly shrinking around the thread and itself.

My advice, take it out now and put on your lace front.

When I wore sew-ins I'd wear one for about two months, and wash once a week. For me, that was my limit. Then I'd get a new one, or switch it up with corn rows, or go back to bunning. Sew-ins helped me get from neck length to shoulder length.

You may be asking for trouble. Once the hair grows it will start to matt and tangle and cause big problems when you move to take it out.

Take it out and rock the lacefront.

Ladies..the tracks are out! Now I just gotta come my hair. I want to deep condition overnight. I have silicon mix, la bomba and I believe patene relax and natural mask..which one should I use..oh and I have the ors pak.

2-3 months. My hair will start to matt around 7-8 weeks as a natural. How often are you washing?

I say 8 weeks max. You can always reinstall immediately afterwards, but I wouldn't relax past 4 months (which equals two 8-week installs). This method worked well for me.

I have a relaxed friend who kept one in for 6 months (without relaxing) and the hair severely matted and came out in clumps. This was a major setback for her nonetheless.
