"Zillion" braid style w/ own hair?

has anyone attempted the zillion braid style aka braids with the ends left loose without extensions? I've always wondered about it but this is the first time seeing it. Do you think this would eventually lead to tangles?

I want to do this with my hai r when it gets longer...
Oan are you fron Detroit, Chicago or East coast? My ex called them zilions , but down south in Texas we call then "freestyle braids"

I am from the East coast but didn't even know what they were called before googling. I'm going to go ahead and jot this down in my "styles to do" list. I'll be sure to share my experience with the class.
