Your hair grew comments...

From people who have not seen your real hair in years. This annoys me a bit just because I'm always in protective styles and I've had a few set backs. So if my hair is like 3 inches longer than it was a year ago when you seen it I don't think it merits a your hair grew comment. I've been natural for 2 years now but have had to cut too many times so when people make those comments I quickly correct them and say I've cut several times. Just to let them know this is nothing compared to what it can be. Hehe I'm so petty:)

Lol, since I went natural my friend keeps asking me if my hair is growing which annoys me.
Also, one time my brother came up to me and he was like "did your hair grow?"
And I was looking like :look: "well, yeah"
I know what he meant but you know to us its like asking someone if they just breathed.

Yeah I think that is why it irks me cause we know our hair grows but when folks comment on a 1 inch growth difference it's like well what do u expect. My hair is not going to remain 3 inches forever. Smh

IDK, I like it when people comment that my hair is growing. A lot of women have a problem retaining length and many think that their hair doesn't grow. Heck, a lot of us thought it before coming to LHCF. If people comment on it, that means that it's noticeable to someone other than me. I mean, one of the biggest complaints about shrinkage is that it makes it look as though the hair isn't growing when it is. So when people say something about my hair in its shrunken state, that means it's even longer when straightened , so go me!

If the person didn't mean any harm by it, and most of them in my experience don't, then I just say thank you, do a little happy dance in my head, and KIM :look:.

This is funny. It doesn't bother me because for years my hair appeared as though it wasn't growing because I wasn't retaining length. Now, when people comment, I brush it off but am actually ecstatic. Yesterday, my mom saw my hair straight and said, "Your hair is as long as mine!" My mom is WL so, no, it really isn't, lol, but it was nice that she noticed significant growth.

It's their observation. If in their eyes it grew from the last time they saw you, that's what it is. Whether you cut it or not and what it could be is kind of a moot point. Would your hair have to have grown 8+ inches for a comment to be merited? Interesting sentiment.

It's nice cause I can never tell the difference (lol) Most seemed to think that after cutting it all and rocking a TWA, it would stay that length or never grow again. It shocks them that my hair is longer than my relaxed hair was. Sometimes, I get stares and a mumbled, "it sure grew...."

Yeah, hair NEVAH grows, don't you know?

I don't get the surprise. Really? You don't expect one's hair to grow. It's supposed to stop or spontaneously combust after a while.

Some of y'all really be trippin' on here!:nono:

How many inches does your hair have to grow for you to accept a compliment? Before coming on the hair boards, y'all would've been jumping for joy to have somebody notice that inch of growth.

I take it as a compliment as to my retaining length. Even if I did cut my hair unless they were being snotty I would thank them for noticing the hard work I put into maintaining my hair.

No big deal to me. I tend to keep my hair hidden or shrunken so people never really know just how long it is. Every now and then I will straighten it and wear it down when its a few inches longer. I like surprising people.

I like getting the comments I wear my hair in a bun most of the time and more recently I will wear a wash and go. With my wash and go my hair shrinks to somewhere between neck length and shoulder length (Im BSL) so when I straighten people are surprised and sometimes don't think its all mine.

I don't find "your hair grew" comments offensive, but I do struggle to accept them wholeheartedly. Its always the same people who were putting me down during my transition, telling me i'll look like a "nappy headed boy" and giving sly comments like "soo...you're just gnna wear it in a nappy fro for the rest of your life?"

I don't need for them to tell me "wow your hair actually grew" and "wow, your hair looks nice now that your natural" because i KNOW it looks nice, and i would have appreciated the support when i needed it, rather than now.
