Hi Ladies,

I've been lurking on LHCF for a while and finally subscribed (don't know what took me so long!). Last night a friend of mine was asking what I was doing to my hair because she noticed that it was looking healthier and had grown dramatically in the past four months....So I was sharing her the tips I picked up from here and from Tiffers (Thank you!!! :dance7:). As I was talking to her another friend walked into the converstation.... The first comment I received was
Other girl: "Why do you wash your hair so much, you are not white!

My response: Because my hair thrives on frequent washes

Other girl: You should only wash your hair once every two weeks....

Me: If you say so

So then, the first girl asks if she can wash and do her hair at my house because I a lot of the products that she wanted to use... I said sure being that yesterday was a wash day for me also. So she and the other girl came to my house...fast forward....

After doing my normal wash day reggie, my hair was feeling like butter! Here comes the convo about me stretching my perm...

Other girl: You shouldn't stretch your hair past 6 weeks because you are going to end up with a lot of breakage

Me: Not if you are gentle with your hair, keep it moisturized, and be mindful of your line of demarcation

Other girl: No you need to go to the salon every four to six weeks to get it done and get a trim

Me: No, I'm good

Other girl: When's the last time you had your ends clipped?

Me: I dusted my ends a couple of months ago

Other girl: Well, you may need a 1/2 inch or more clipped if it's been that long then, It will grow back.

Me: It will grow back but I won't retain any length if it keeps getting chopped off!

Really? :wallbash: Of the two girls in my house, mine was the longest and obviously very healthy (If I do say so myself :lachen:). Have any of you all gotten this from friends or hair haters? I'm sure you have but WOW!

Welcome to the board!!! Don't you just want to crack up when the one giving you hair advice needs to be sitting at your feet with a pen and paper taking hair care notes:lachen:? It's surreal....

Welcome to the board!

I really hate when people try to tell you what to do with your hair.

Next time, just say "My hair's been improving with what I've been doing so far".

Welcome to the board, Mrs. Jay!!!:yep:

Ignore the hair hater. If your hair is healthy and the longest, then she should be living on your every word instead of telling you what to do.

welcome, welcome, welcome!!!

And welcome to the world of "black people can't do that to their hair etc..."

Welcoms to the board.

I have people ask me what I do to my hair to make it grow (I BC's 2+ years ago) and then they will tell me what I should be doing :perplexed.

It's to the point now I don't even like discussing hair with anyone.

Welcome to the board and get ready for more convos like the one you just had. I am a stylist and take what I have learned from this board and tell my clients and they still look at me like I have four eyes and two noses on my face.:lachen:

Welcome to the Board.

After being here for a while you will start to realize that it is best not talk hair with anyone, unless they asked or if they are opened minded and willing to try new thing. This is just my experience, hopefully yours will be a lot better. The reason I say this.

I have a really close family member who I try to put on about this site and Cathy Howes books. I have a few friends who I also try to put on to this site. I have come to realize you can lead them to the water, but that doesn't mean they will drink the water.

Some people are closed minded or just don't want to do the work to get what they want. They looking for some over night success.

I'm the type of person who loves helping people and if I have some information that would help, I more then willing to gave the information. But a lot of people are suck on the old myths. It's to the point now I don't even like discussing hair with anyone, I don't needed or want the head ache NO THANK YOU. But if some ask me a question I will answer and if their open minded I tell them a whole lot more.

Right, I don't explain anything. There's no need- they have eyes, they can see it's working.

Welcome to the board, just keep doing what you are doing then when your swinging that lush hair, the convo will come up again, " so what do you do to your hair".................

I don't bother anymore with the conversations. Now they see the proof in the progress and say wow, I guess you do know what you talking about.

First off:welcome:!! Secondly, ask yourself, would you take financial advice from a bum? Seriously doubt it, rather you'd :Run:! So the same applies to your hair. I don't care if she's a beautician, and has been in cosmetology school for 10 years! I would take what she says to a grain of sand. If I haven't learned anything else on here, I know that everyone's hair responds differently to different techniques. You just to find what works best for you, and when you do, stick with it. It may be a trial and error process, but at least you'll know for sure.
