I have gotten those comments alot too! And there are alot of people who claim that they are half black and half indian because they have one indian in their familyu. If you have to look past your grand parents you are black! For instance, If your both your parents are black and your grand parents on your mom and dad's side are black your black stupid! Be happy with your own race. They are many other races who pay big money to look black, like getting butt implants, breast implants, getting collegan in their lips, getting tans all the time. Be happy!

I think I understand what you're saying. You have a problem with it, not because of the other cultures, but because all the traits that they consider "beautiful" they don't consider "black". They are basically saying you cant be black because if you were black you wouldnt have nice hair or nice skin or whatever. I get it. But thats THEIR ignorance and THEIR problem. A lot of folx are narrow minded like that.

I used to get that question a lot when I wore my hair slicked back with gel or conditioner but not as often now that I'm natural. I once had a hispanic woman that I had smiled at in the store come up to me and start speaking spanish. Freaked me out but hey things happen.

That's exactly it, Enchantmt! :)

brownhaired bonanza, I didn't think that at all. I was going based off of your initial post, which was based on people assuming tihngs about you based on the length of your hair.

I don't think the thread went off topic at all. If people are assuming race based on sometihng as trivial as hair, then the discussion of race is invariably going to come into play. I think some posters thought it was about denying this or that, but that wasn't it at all. The point is, is that people can have long, healthy hair based on what they do to it, not if they're great grandma was less than 1/8 Chicasaw(sp?), and it's silly for people make that assumption based on HAIR!!!!!!!!!!

Black folk can grow long beautiful hair, too! :D You don't have to be mixed to do that!

Who knows, maybe some lurkers will see this and stop saying that mess to people, if they are saying it, that is....
