I know when i need to wash my scalp when i scratch my head and look under my fingernails and actually SEE the buildup. Yuck! I don't feel clean at all after seeing that!

Everyone keeps telling me not to wash these twists so early but if i see dirt/buildup under my nails then thats a wrap!

Lemme get ready for my wash right now!

Ladies, when can yall tell??

I know I need to wash my hair once it itches so bad I cant stand it, which is usually after 3 days. Also, my hair likes to pick up smells. Sometimes if i cook or am around someone who smokes, my hair will hold on to that scent and I just can't stand it! I have to wash it or I wont feel clean.

A soon as I decide that I want to cheat and use brown gel instead of castor oil and honey to keep my edges down...I put that mess on my hair and was like no no nooo :nono:...this is not the business. Immediately washed my hair.

Uggggh at the nail stuff... that's how I feel if I scratch and see stuff under my nail :nono:.... My general rule of thumb is that my hair really needs to be washed by day 4 or 5.. I'm trying to stretch it to 7 since air drying and I are no longer friends :nono: . Wet buns cause me more shedding and is just a huge pain.

i know i need to wash my hair when im sitting at work scratching my scalp like somethings crawling around. i have tried every oil in the book and my sccalp wont stop itching. so i will be washing tomorrow.

This is me too. Also any time I get a new product . It's an itch I just have to scratch.

When my hair feels kinda stiff or needs a burst of moisture I wash my hair...that can fall anywhere in between 1 - 4 days.

:hair: When my hair starts looking like that dude...layers of old product built up and clogged, dried cuticles are a not a good look...

and of course, when it starts to smell a little unfresh...that's when I know it's time to suds up.
I don't even let get to the point of reeking :nono: (3-7 days max between washes), dirty scalp has a very distinct, stomach-turning aroma (and note: I have a pretty strong stomach).

well when I was relaxing I knew to wash my hair when I saw a lot of it shedding or in the comb....I'm currently transitioning so everything may be brand new:drunk:

I know I need to wash when my twists lose its luster. When it looks dull and stops shining from the castor oil I sealed it with from the previous wash I know its time for another.. usually I don't wait that long and was every 3-4days

Ditto on this, though I normally can rock twists for about 2-3 weeks before I break down and wash. I also do the scalp to nail check and if I can ruffle my hair, look down at my shirt and see that it looks like mid december flurries on my shirt.

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

You are soo silly!!!

ETA: When my scalp is literally kicking my :censored:

or

When I stratch and there is residue under my nails...that's just a :nono: for me.

RAIIID!

But, remember the thread about the lady whose hair was so long that she found a spider in it when she went to wash it and didn't know how long it was there for? I didn't want to laugh but that was :lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

i know I need a wash when my hair get too oily and breaks because of the extra dirt. My hair also gets stiff when dirty

My routine is to wash twice a week, but if I happen to get too busy or too tired to make time for my wash when it's due and go a day or so more, I get a headache or my hair starts to feel dry...then I know I really must wash my hair to get relief.
