I'm starting to blow dry more often also because I was getting a lot of SSKs. I have a Solia blow dryer and I just got the Willie Morrow comb attachment which I love. I can blow dry my whole head in 45 min where it was taking 90 min with the tension method. I blow dry about once a month now and straighten maybe every 2-3 months.

I used to get terrible results when I tried to blow dry and flat iron (see my avi). What made the difference was using a comb attachment, and a smaller flat iron (1 in. vs. 1.75 in.). I also use the comb chase method.

There is a thread about how deep conditioning really well helps you get better results when you straighten. I'm on my phone so I can't link it for you. Maybe someone else can find it.

ETA: The WM attachment does not come off. And I have flat ironed with crisco and gotten good results. This last time I used sabino moisture block and it didn't work at all. I'm going to try it one more time to see if maybe I didn't use enough.

Girl, you gonna have my hair popping...but I will try it

 that's what I thought too until I saw empressri video on how she uses it.

I can't post the link right now but I used it the same way she does the last time I straightened my hair.

I also use the tension method to blowdry. Much more gentle than the comb attachment and gets my hair sta-RAIGHT!!

Can you share your twistout technique after blow drying? How long do the twists last before you twistout?

I have a 'hand fixation' with my spray bottle and twists/twistouts. I am kinda afraid it would be second nature for me to blow dry, twist my hair only to try to freshen it with the herbal tea mixture. I'd be so pissed if this happened

No dont do that! Lol. The key is leaving it alone.

Here's my regimen:

Wash
Deep condition
Section, detangle
Apply serum to section, blowdry ( I use a paddle brush and I get my hair about 80% straight). Repeat until whole head is done.
Apply gel (I use ecostyler olive oil gel) liberally to each section and twist. If your ends are straight, dunk them in a cup of water so they curl up. Repeat until done. Since your hair is fairly straight, you can do bigger sections. Twisting usually takes me 20 minutes.
Let dry. I typically let the. Dry overnight but if you want same say hair, you can sit under the dryer.
Take down, separate, and fluff.

I can get about a week out of this style, doing absolutely nothing to it each day. Then it starts to lose definition so I retwist the front sections overnight. Then I get another week.

The great thing about this regimen is that you can do pretty much anything to blown out natural hair. You can go ahead and flat iron it and wear it straight. You can do a cute bun. You can do a braidout, twistout, or bantu knot out. It's a blank canvas.

Also, if you are like me (lazy), you can go three to four weeks without having to wash and detangle. You blowdry, flat iron, then wear it straight until it starts getting frizzy, then you do the twistout. Wear that for a a couple of weeks. Then spritz it with water, let it puff up, and wear a fro or puff. Then when you feel like you cant go any longer, wash again and start all over. Im telling you, it is so low maintenence, you will love it!

Thanks! I need to perfect my paddle brush technique because the last time I tried, my hands were going one way and my hair was going the other.

I have that silverbird. I taped that comb attachment on and kept it moving. I love that blowdryer, lol. I'm a fan of the blowdrying and then styling. That way I have texture, length, and less tangling.

If you don't mind, can you share your technique?

I used to get my hair blown dry and pressed every two weeks when I was in junior and high school and my hair was still thick. Healthy on the other hand, probably not. But then again, my hair has broken off by me implementing 'healthy hair' practices.

I wash, DC, then finish with aussie moist.
I part my hair into 4 sections, apply leave in, then on top of that I apply a very thin layer of avocado butter. Then blow dry on medium. Once I'm done blow drying I flatiron. Avocado butter leaves my hair very soft, moisturized, shiny and flowing. But the key is to make sure the amount you use is small. Initially, your hair may have a coated feeling but that will past.

southernbella what type of blow dryer and paddle brush do you use? Also do you do this all year? I'm curious how this holds up in the warmer months.

pinkchocolatedaisy, sorry, I didn't see this. I use a Conair ceramic ion dryer. I got it from CVS and it looks just like this:

And the paddle brush is also conair but I couldn't find a pic of it.

I do it all year round. I think the key in the summer months is making sure you stay on top of your deep conditions so that your hair stays moisturized, which keeps the puffiness at a mimimum. If will eventually start to puff a little after several days simply because it's the nature of our hair, but that just adds to the beauty of the twistout, imo.
