Hey, I've been reading this board religiously for 5 days before signing up to be a member, and i must say Dang you sure know ur stuff. Only if i had actually cared about taking care of my hair from early i would have had past shoulder length hair by now.
notworthy.gif

Ok here goes:
So when i was about 15 - 16 i decided to go back natural, by that time i had 1 inch longer than shoulder length without tugging on it, and about 3 inches new growth. When I cut my hair, i would wet it every day and leave Always conditioner in it and walk out of the house. But that wasn't enough, i looked too plain. I told my stylist to put a wild colour in it. It came out two tints darker than white blonde. I became addicted to the color. I got alot of compliments, no breakage and my hair was healthy. Within a hair it was shoulder length once more ... but as my hair grew the front and back got straighter and straighter and the rest of my hair was curly. So i relaxed once more . big mistake
wallbash.gif
. Relaxer and Bleach . Then bleach again. =/. Never had that much of breakage problems, shedding alot because i am on BC pills , so i understand that.. but the problem came here
( my hair is in the halle berry, or was lol it started growing again)
Last month i got my hair done by my not-regular stylist, i explained to her before put relaxer in that i had touched up my hairline and middle and she said she knew. So i was liek ok once she knows. Today the middle of my hair is seems like a crinkly straight, at first i thought it was breaking but i realised it was breaking and underprocessed ... it looks blah ( or im just being paranoid). Up to the time i started reading this board i used to use a curling iron EVERYDAY (cuz my hair is in a short style and i cant put it in a pony tail). So i guess my hair is very damaged, even though it doesn't look so. Last week i cut off about an half of an inch by myself, except the back. It's pretty even, i hate to know i have split ends. My hair is still really blonde and i plan on keeping it and maintaining it to the best ability with help from You Smarties. On request i will say my regimen because i dont want to make the post too long
Thanks for reading !! Any ideas an tips would be greatly appreciated

Welcome, nekee!

I'm not a seasoned member but I would be happy to offer any help I can. By all means post your regimen--it's the first thing people will want to know so they can offer suggestions. Color + Relaxer = lots of potential problems, which I can tell you already know. It's good that you've stopped using the curling iron, and it's also wonderful that you don't mind cutting off your split ends (some people like to hold on to length at the expense of the health of their hair). If you're not using a protein treatment, that will most likely be the most recommended step. I personally haven't used one (yet...I'm saving up money for one), but they are supposed to really help strengthen your hair and stop breakage. There are lots of threads here about protein. Also, moisture is going to be a big issue for you to keep in mind. Again, there are a lot of threads about moisturizing conditioners and leave-ins, as well as plenty of info on oils that people have had success with (excuse my grammar). Do a search on "protein treatment", etc. to get started and of course post any specific questions you may have.
Would you consider going natural again? I only ask because if you are really happy with your color, it might be easier on your hair if you lay off the relaxer. Just a thought.
Well, go ahead an post your regimen, and perhaps in the meantime some others will come and give suggestions.
Welcome to the board!

nekee, welcome to the board!! i'm sure you'll find alot of info here to help you out. i don't have any experience with color. so i can only co-sign to what blackcardinal said.

blackcardinal, spoken like i veteran! i agree with everything that you said. the main points being:

• color + relaxer = lots of potential problems

• protein treatment the most recommended step

• moisture is going to be big

go head, girl... someone has been taking very good notes!!

Re: You guys are great (sorta long, read when bore

hey,
thanx for answering so quickly
BEFORE
i would wash once a week, or every two weeks, blow dry on high and then flip out with a huge barrel curling iron. And i would hardly moisturise because i liked to feel my hair move and bounce. But i figured i just put too much in and at the wrong times
NOW
I live in the Caribbean - no hard water. It is hot and i bathe like 3 times a day .. sometimes i just rinse my hair out once or twice a day and then spray some moisture mist thing ( 3/4 water, 1/4 vitamin E, Olive oil, and soft and beautiful botanicals oil)
Every one was saying they spray like 2x a day, but im figuring my hair snaps when i pull it , and the bleach and stuff would dry out my hair and make it weak. So whenever im not online i spray with either the oil mist or just plain water.
When i dont rinse my hair . I just went my hair in the shower then apply White Rain Conditioner for like two minutes then wash out.
I airdry, I dont use combs anymore lol .. so it airdries just as is. It comes out curly and it is short so i dont have much to worry about ( only when im lucky). When it dries it isnt tangly.
Once a week
I Deep condition with something called REMEDi X 20 minutes with heat cap- it is a reconstructor, and Motions CPR ( i put on a shower cap and leave on til i realise i have to go out lol) . and African's Best Mayonnaise, i wash with Pantene Pro-V shampoo and Conditioner for dry and damaged hair.

My Products
Motions Pink oil lotion
Motions CPR
Pantene Pro-V Shampoo and Conditioner
White Rain Shampoo, White Rain conditioner
Vitamin E
Hollywood Beauty Olive Oil
Pure Olive Oil
Perm Repair Moisturiser
Soft and Beautiful Botanicals Oil (smells yummy)

just obtained two days ago
Wild Growth Oil
Hollywood Beauty Carrot Oil

I got my dad ( yes im young ) to buy me some evening primrose oil on friday(200 mg per tablet, also has in some cod liver oil and fish oil ) .. but i have only taken two. I'm waiting until i get enough money for biotin ( it wont be puritan pride or freeeda because it is the caribbean lol hardly anyone knows about it lol) It is like $40 ($20 US), as far as i can remember one tablet had more than 5000mcg biotin and some silica, i cant remember if i checked for MSM. But the biotin and silica sounds good so i will get it and try it out.

I applied WGO already and it feel nice =)
But i am not going to apply again until i get the vitamins and i would take everything one time so the results are effective

Today I had put a lil too much WGO in and i just had a feeling that my scalp wasnt clean , so i washed it my hair with white rain shampoo and the conditioner and then applied the WGO and sprayed with the oil mist. I have like 9 sections of my hair either in plaits or twirls and pinned up with cute clips. the back is only like an inch long so those are left out.

Adrienne and Black Cardinal... if u want to see a recent pic ( last saturday) of me just pm me. It is how i wash and leave .

Re: You guys are great (sorta long, read when bore

Adrienne--thanks! I guess all that lurking payed off!

nekee--It looks like you have some good things going on there....Off the top of my head, I would say check out the ingredients in your shampoos. I know Pantene has some harmful sulfates in it and I'm guessing white rain probably does too. search for "SLS" or "sulfates" to find some informative threads about these ingredients which can be very drying.
I'm not familiar with the pink oil moisturizer or the perm repair moisturizer. Are these heavier creams? Oils can make hair softer and shinier, but I think you might need to seek out a good, heavier moisturizer. I can understand about not wanting hair to feel weighed down, but if you apply just the right amount and at the right time, many moisturizers will leave your hair smooth and light.
Girl, we're the same age! I just started taking biotin and a b-complex a few weeks ago. I, too, am waiting for great results. My new growth is already coming in.

Good luck with your hair journey!

Re: You guys are great (sorta long, read when bore

The Perm Repair is light, and the motions oil is sort of thick.
I was thinking of getting Pantene Pro-v Daily Moisturiser. I just love Pantene Pro-v. White Rain has in SLS, i diluted it with some distilled water so it wouldnt be too harsh on my hair.

B-complex makes ur hair thicker right ? That is in the one tablet with the biotin and silica that im looking to get, if i can, i will puppy-dog face my honey and see if he gets all the vitamins i want one time

How much new growth do u have from taking the biotin ? or do u think it is ur regime ?
Good luck with ur hair journey too, i will keep u posted

Welcome! You got some great advice so far. You really shouldn't do both the bleach and the relaxer. If you really love the color than stick to that. You'll need all the moisture you can get...especially since both are very drying to hair which is genetically dry to begin with.

Re: You guys are great (sorta long, read when bore

thanx =) everyone
thank you sweet cocoa, i know i will need moisture, I have realised that most ppl on here just lightly moisturise but im going to need the lot of it .. so i do it 2 - 3x as much.

This morning i just wet my hair thoug, while it is still in the clips ... i dont want to moisturise it unti it is dry because i put a good amount of WGO in itand i dont want it to be too oily

But i am going to spray it with oil in an hour.
Anyonw got any faster hair growth results with WGO ?

Re: You guys are great (sorta long, read when bore

Hi Nekee,
wave.gif

I use WGO but it definitely has *not* sped up my growth rate. It does, however, work nicely on stretching out my new growth, esp. nearing touchup time. I also like to use it on my ends when doing protective styles, e.g., buns.

Re: You guys are great (sorta long, read when bore

I think B-5 is supposed to help thicken hair, and my complex does have B-5. It's too early to see the effects though. I am 18 days into my relaxer so i don't have much to measure yet, but I can tell that I have more new growth than I normally have at this time. My regimen may be affecting how the new growth looks and feels but I don't think it could have an affect on the growth rate so I'm going to give credit to the vitamins. Waiting impatiently for the end of the summer so I can measure....
