I AM...

So with the heat we are having in Philly this weekend I have decided to rock my fro. I washed with HV Alma shampoo and did a cassia henna, egg,and jojoba oil,a doolip of queen Helen 2 hour treatment. After which I sat under the dryer for 30 minutes with garlic condish, HV Stinillah, honey, and argon oil The pic does not do me justice my fro is beautiful and growing nicely.

OK so now I am considering staying in the fro style for the remainder of the summer. The plan is to wash and bantu knot at night. I will say this style calls for EXTREME manipulation and the center of my head is extremely dry. I never thought myself to be a natural who needs to carry around a water bottle but the threat of a dry fro scares the BeJesus out of me:lachen:.

Naturals what styles do you rock during the summer and how do you keep it moisturized? Oh how often do you wash and style? Ladies please be clear I am extremely desperate. I know this is the best thing for my hair but I am a coporate Trainer and "crazy hair" in front of Corporate clowns is not an option. Crazy how we are the only race penalized for choosing to wear our hair the way it naturally grows out of our head. THANKS LHCF Ladies

How long is your hair? Maybe you can do twistouts or puffs. Have you looked to YT for style inspiration from ladies with similar hair length?

My hair is waist length but it shrinks up to shoulder length when it's curly. To avoid too much manipulation I will cowash and leave it in a ponytail or in a bun.

To keep it from getting dry I use either avocado butter or castor oil.

@I AM..., I haven't worn my hair out since it was about CBL and when I wore it out, I wore it with shrinkage and used only S Curl on my hair. I combed it out every day: in the morning to style and in the evening when braiding it up. Some may call that too much manipulation but I consider it the best thing I could do for my hair. Because I combed it to style and to put to bed, I never had tangles so didn't have to manipulate it to detangle. I didn't change my wash regimen from what it is all the time: shampoo, condition, ACV rinse twice a week, with one of those conditionings being a DC (ie I alternated regular conditioning and DCing). I also only applied S Curl on wash day: first when hair is damp as I styled it, then when hair is dry at the end of the day before braiding it up and baggying for the night. I baggied nightly and found my hair retained its moisture and stayed soft and nice to touch w/o being icky sticky. I didn't need to apply any other moisture and I appreciated how shrinkage kept my hair up and away from my clothes and face. I wore puffs.

I'll be in mini braids (without extensions) until about October. I'm putting them in now...hopefully I'll be done within the next 2 days. I can stay cool, swim, etc without having to worry about redoing my hair. I'm also writing an ebook about maintaining mini-braids because they aren't very popular but I swear by them.

My summer routine so far has been cowashing once or twice a week. I usually style it in a twist n curl or braidout, let it dry overnight then undo and fluff in the morning. At night I spritz w/ water and seal with an oil before pineappling. If you like cowashing it's a great way to maintain moisture in the summer. Also doing the moisturize and seal daily helps as well.

Ladies,

Thank you so much for your responses. I must ask do any of you carry around a water bottle or spritz your hair with a serum.

when i was natural, i carried around Juices and Berries. i kept it in the frig and put one in my purse! it is light and refreshing!

I moisturize and seal twice a day if I'm consistent...I may take the advice here and carry my moisture mist around with me. I love that stuff!

I broke down and after cowashing I used my blowdryer lat not and used curlformers. I have it all pinned up today but tomorrow I shall rock my fro proudly.

So I guess I'm, going to use this as y personal sounding board as well. I am almost armpit length and I want to know what you ladies think about me cowashing daily and doing 2 strand twist for my fro? I am trying not to weave anymore and I want to workout freely so this seem to be my only alternative. Thoughts?

Y'all carrying around water bottles to spray your hair?!? That reminds me of how, back in the day, people used to carry around curl activator/moisturizer when the Jheri Curl was out. Y'all are too funny on here.:look:

I really like mini braids. They really take a load off of me doing my hair. I am getting ready to put some in my hair in a few days.

I'm not natural anymore but mini braids and mini twists were the only styles I could really wear. If I wore my hair out I had to braid it up every night and take them down and it was just too much. I preferred the braids to the twists because I didn't have to worry about them unraveling. Wearing my hair out was only a one day style for special occasions.

I did two strans flat twist and washed thee times a week for a year and retained length. My hair is too long for that now. I would wash every two to three days and retwist with moisturize at night and seal.

I do 2-strand rope twists on stretched hair. I keep them in for 3 weeks, and use a tea rinse to wash weekly. I wore my hair out or in updos for a week last week and quickly realized I'm not used to having to handle my hair that much, and it's too humid for an -out style (my last braidout lasted under 5 minutes before the humidity caused it to revert).

I like twists because I can put them in an updo for court, or twist or braid them for some curl and style, without the daily manipulation. My hair thrives with the low manipulation :yep:. Good luck!!
