I dont know waht to do w my hair. I did a roller set this weekend and it came out pretty good thanks to the Nexxus products(Humestress and Keraphix are the bomb) but after the roller set, it wasnt crunchy (I used less lottabody) but now im touching it and its just crunching off!!

I put oil in my hair this morning and surged the roots. Now i feel my hair and it feels as if the oil is just sitting on top of my hair and not penetrating it. ( I use Hot Six and Surge Potion #9) Its such a problem

FYI: I live in NY. could that be the problem? I wore a bun today.... :(

Does ur hair normally crunch off after a set or is this an isolated incident? I dont know how diluted ur Lottabody was, but even full strength should cause ur hair to break off. Maybe u should lay off setting lotion for a while. Also, I would recommend that you apply a moisturizer slightly warmed when your hair feels brittle or hard then seal with an oil. I am sure others will chime in ...

I think you may want to wash your hair again. This same thing had happened to me earlier last year and I washed my hair again. It was definitely the setting lotion that made by hair dry. I just can't use lottabody alone anymore. I add 1 part lottabody to 5 parts water and then add my Nairobi Foam wrap and then set. I know you may not want to wash again, but it stopped the chipping off and my hair wasn't dry anymore. HTH:)

Wash your hair again. My hair was super crunchy after using LottaBody and I didn't even use a lot of it. Perhaps your hair just doesn't like it no matter what. I've found that my sets look way better without a setting lotion. It's really not necessary. If you want a soft rollerset, try Salerm Super Activo.

What is Surge Potion #9? A cream, a liquid?

wow.. I never thought to dilute it that much.. I did one part lottabody and 2 parts water. What does setting lotion actually do bc i thought it just lessened the heat to your hair. I also bought Motions foam wrap this weekend. Should i return it? because im thinking that maybe id ont want to use these products anymore.

Also Boadicea, thank you for the suggestion, where can i get it? I spent waaaaaayyy too much money on products this weekend (ETA:read my last journal, lol) so I'm trying to cut back. If i put a little humectress on my hair and set, do you think i will be OK? :ohwell:

thanks alot ladies :)

OH MY GOD! I had these same issues with lottabody years ago! My hair was past bra strap, not knowing what that is until now! I used lottabody on my hair and it turned out crunchy hard and jacked up! I went to the salon that weekend and ol' girl cut off about 4 inches of my hair, saying it was dead and damaged! Like an idiot I believed her! I never used lottabody again! Had I known now, I would have just rewashed my hair! Funny.... I could have saved my hair! Now I am pissed!

Tuffcookie, setting lotion generally helps the hair to hold the curl, but if not diluted well the rollerset will be crispy crunchy. Make sure you're diluting your Lottabody to what works best for your hair. Maybe you need to add more water, or just use something different altogether. My hair loves Lottabody, but something else might work better for you.

You could probably find Salerm Super Activo in a bss - am I right, Boadicea? What is this stuff? Do tell!

The moitions foam wrap stuff has sd-40 alcohol in it... I personally would return it, tuffcookie

That's good advice. For some reason, I remember some ladies here at LHCF complaining about Motions Foam Wrap. Maybe that was the problem. I bought some SilkWorks Shine Serum when I couldn't find my trusty NTM Serum, and for the week I used it my hair was so dull. When I read the ingredient list, I saw it had SD-40 alcohol - as the third ingredient out of 11 or 12. Needless to say, I dumped it.

The most comprehensive advice I can give on this note is to stop putting so many things in your hair. People get to the board, read about a host of new and wonderful products (or PJ's like me go on a shopping binge), and set about putting everything they read about in their hair. Oils, leave in, setting lotions, foams, creams and more oils to seal the ends....and on...and on....all at the same time. :nono:

Apply ONE leave in to your hair, maybe a dab of something for hold if you need or like that, OR (note the OR and not an AND! ) a little oil if you MUST, and BUMP the rest!!!!!!!!1 :)

I promise you that 50% of the problems people have with tangling issues, dullness and lack of shine, and even breakage sometimes can be explained by too much product on the hair post wash in the interest of "protecting it".....

That's what I thought since the first time I found out about this site. I wondered that anyone's hair could grow at all what with all the different products they use and the frequency they switch from one to the other. I just didn't want to say anything because I figured someone would take it the wrong way and get mad.

Hot Six Oil and Surge Potion are pretty thick/heavy. I think your putting too much on your hair. Also, leave your hair alone. Maybe put it in a bun until you wash it again.

Aww that is so sweet.... :)

I think we all know we give advice with love and concern and with the best of our knowledge here at LHCF, so don't worry about that. :look:

I think it depends on what ur talking about too. For conditioners - if you have 3 that work for you, rotating them is not a problem. But for many the problem arises POST WASH...many of us (me included) just overzealously apply too much product the hair, and I think it hurts more than it helps.

You can find it in a BSS. Next to other Salerm products. It's $18 but it is SO worth it. It's extremely light (it's a serum) and melts right into your hair and gives it this silky smooth texture. You don't have to use it to set, either. You can put it on wet hair and just air-dry.

Since using it, I've found that my sets come out so much better. The curl holds and lasts. If you pull the bottom, it springs right back when you let it go and it leaves my hair very soft.

I'm very heavy-handed when I use products. The bottle suggests 3-4 drops on wet hair. I use about 10 and it hasn't run out since I bought it weeks ago. I've found that Salerm products in general last very long. I only have to buy the leave-in once a year.

Why don't you use a leave-in and a extremely small amount of setting lotion. Or just use a good leave in cream. Hopefully that would work.

Brown haired, you know that smiley in your profile is not giving thumbs up right? thats why its red..

You guys are so helpful. I dont have time to wash my hair again til tomorrow. I wish you guys said that thing sooner about not putting so many products.. I put vaseline on the ends of my hair and wrapped it last nite...:look:

I'm gonna take Pooh bear's advice and keep it in this bun until wed morning (I have fashion show tryouts at night) and i think im going to forgo the Surge. :)

I really do need to simplify. But again, my problem lies POST wash. I want so badly to moisturize my ends but havent figured which products to use. Any suggestions on that? I'm also going to try the Salerm to see whats good

I got the hot six mist (assuming its lighter??) :ohwell:

What's a leave in cream? Like Humectress?

Personally I do not "moisturize" my ends with anything on a regular basis. If I'm wearing my hair out I'll put NTM serum in my hands and smooth it on my hair everyday, if I wear it in a ponytail I might use some Carol's Daughter's Hair Milk on the length of the tail. You don't necessarily need something heavy on your hair to protect it. My washing and conditionings protect my hair by itself w/o doing a lot of extra stuff. Maybe try that. :)

Wow Ms_K, I have to moisturive my ends every night. Then again I have dry hair and I cant imagine not doing so. I cant imagine my hair breaking off from setting lotion. I can use spritz and my hair wont crumble off.

I'm so sorry that that happened to you mrslee, taking care of your hair is a b*%ch!!! But I feel for you. I was just so unhappy of how it came out, that I decided it wash it out, and my hair came back to normal (minus a few broke off strands), but all in all, it came back to life. I started experimenting with the lottabody for my hair, and 1 part to 5 parts of water came out great. No crunch, no flakes, etc. with great curl hold. It sounds like it is really water down, but it's not for my hair. Try experimenting with it, and see what is a good ratio for your hair. HTH :)
