WTF IS GOING ON????

Hey Ladies,
I think this retarded Newbie has done something terrible I might be taken this a little too far but because I'm just getting to know and pay attention to my hair this seems abnormal.

I call myself transitioning although I don't think it's going to work. Anyway, since being on the board I started co-washing; in the beginning it was every other day but I liked it so much I started doing it everyday. It never crossed my mind that since I am relaxed this might not be such a good idea.

Ok, I told myself I was not going to use any heat and I would wear a wig until August (vacation time). I have been doing so but I notice my hair is coming out. When I say coming out meaning when I run my hands through it the ends just come out. Does this make sense? At first I chalked it up to shedding but I'm not too sure. This is so weird to me, I mean if I just pull on my ends some of my hair will come out.
Why? What did I do wrong? How do I stop it? Am I being overly dramatic?
Seriously I just don't know...this is what I get for jumping on almost every darn band wagon that made sense.
This newbie is ready to keep it simple but I need to stop this shedding or what ever you call it.:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

I've never had this happen and I didn't experience shedding or breakage when I transitioned. The only advice I can offer is to start doing some deep conditioning and stop co-washing if that's the only other thing that has changed. But, you said something about jumping on every bandwagon!! So if you have stop whatever you have recently started and go back to the basics. I believe you will need to wear a protective style to try and retain moisture and I know a great deal of people wear twist/twistouts or braids/braidouts when transitioning.

Hopefully someone else can offer other advice that have been through this experience. I'm telling you what I would do if I was in the situation. Good Luck and I know the ladies here will be able to offer some wonderful pointers.

Is it broken hairs that are coming out? Or are they longer with a bulb at the end? Remember you shed roughly 100 hairs per day so it could be normal. But if they are broken, you need to read up on the threads about moisture/protein balance.

co washing everyday for some is too much moisture because we tend to gravitate to moisture when co washing. try a light protein conditioner to see if that helps and wear your hair up. i like aphogee 2 minute, joico deep penetraiting reconstructor and some people like aveda damage remedy.

This happens to me. I just consider it a part of the "hair cycle" of shedding. Do you use proteins treatments of any kind. Maybe you need some of that to balance out the moisture that you are giving your hair by the cowashes. I like GVP potion #9. Its a Sallys generic product. Its also a leave in, which can make it simple and easy to use. Alot of people use it and swear by it. You can do a seach of other protein treatments and protein/moisture balance threads. There are many informative ones here. It will be OK :yep:HTH

Yes, they are broken hairs but some are quite long maybe 4-5inches, not sure about the white bulbs I will have to check the next time I pull on my hair. What do white bulbs mean?

I have Joice K-Pak reconstructor but right now I am so afraid too touch my hair. I really need to read up on this shedding business before I go nuts

You have to be carefull when transitioning. The hair is the weakess at the darmacation line ( I hope I spelled that right). If you are cowashing on a daily basis you are probably manipulating it daily too. IMO, if you are going to continue to transition daily cowashing might not be the answer. Try cowashing every four/five days.HTH

Welcome to the board!!

When I first started cowashing I noticed more hair than normal in my drain. I was maybe 3 months post. I know how my hair feels about routine protein treatments :nono: ....so instead I tried Roux Mendex, it worked great! I haven't had an issue since and I'm now 5+ months post. I cowash at minimum 3 times a week and at most 6.

I'd say you may want to do some more research before going straight to a protein treatment. Here's a link to the post from sistaslick with info on shedding vs breakage.

Here's a link to an article she also wrote about overconditioning and over moisturizing:

Shedding...you mean with the white bulbs...I'd try a garlic shampoo, a tea or caffeine rinse. DC or protein only help for breakages and dont do nothing at all for shedding ...

our hair is so fragile while transitioning. some people have alot of breakage others dont. i would say that daily co washing at this point may not be helping. you have two maybe three textures fighting in your head right now and they got a mind of their own. like some one else said finding your correct protien moisture blance helps; during my transitiong my hair loved protien.
this is definitly a journey and we all had some misses before hits. i would say listen to your hair it will let you know what it needs.

Since you co-wash everyday it sounds like you may be over moisturized. Having too much moisture in your hair can cause breakage just as having too little moisture can as well. There is some really good info on this site about having too much moisture and establishing a good moisture protein balance.

And fwiw you are not being overly dramatic. Your hair should not come out just by running your hand over it. I have had that happen to me and it was overly moisturized.
