I'm kinda shocked after I read all the threads on this product. And most people experienced dryness. Some got thru it...others didn't. I was not expecting that many bad reviews on it.

I looked at this in the store and was gonna buy it, but then remembered to do research first:ohwell:. I was intrigued with the thought of a relaxer not having such harsh chemicals. And i really want it to work for me...but that's just my fantasy.

for those who stopped using it....did u stop because u realized that this relaxer was just not doing it for u?....or were u just not knowledgeable about how to deal with the product?

I love it!! I use Phyto II and I have not experienced any dryness. My hair is thick and full. Of course, I use products that contain ceramides which combats the dryness that can happen with any no-lye relaxer.

I give it two thumbs up!!

It started out wonderful for me. My hair was BEAUTIFUL! Until, my hair started to dry out tremendously. I took a break from it, then went back to it a few years later. It still made my hair too dry....No thanks :nono:

I just tried my first one this past Dec. and I really liked it. The only downside to me was that it took several rinses to get all of the relaxer out (oh and the cost:grin:)

This is how I found out about LHCF...when I did a search for other AA women that used the relaxer (a couple of years ago).....I used Phyto 1 for almost 2 years and thought I was doing something wrong as my hair started off great for the first year but subsequently became dry and dull. At that time I was using the whole line.

Also during that time - I did not know about "chelating" which may have rectified the problem but I now since I returned to using "lye" relaxers - my hair is in much better condition....

Oh dear. Phyto....where do I begin...

I'm just starting to recover from the extreme dryness it caused me. which is a shame cause i like the texture i get from it and the non burning thing rocks...but the dryness is gross and its now caused me to become protein sensitive (and i wasnt before using it)

it's just....:nono:

the whole story is in my testimonial

http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=431434

if your hair loves protein, isn't prone to dryness at all, AND you have a great moisture regimen then hey it might work for you....but i could never recommend it with a clear concious.

thanks everyone for your input.

ugggg...this is so hard. This product gets so many mixed reviews. If it was a conditioner....ok so what. My hair can get back on track after a wash or two. But this is a relaxer. this can truly mess up my progress.

My stylist is fantastic. I've been using lye for 15+ years. i have no complaints...except for the fact i'm tired of using these harsh chemicals. and i don't want to go natural/ nor texlaxed. so it's really a hard choice

does anyone know if this relaxer gets ur hair bone straight? or texturized? or it depends based on how long u leave it on?

i don't like texturized hair. so i'll pass if phyto won't make it straight

I love  Phyto! I applied MBB to my nape and now I have to regrow that hair :ohwell:

My hair has ALWAYS been prone to dryness. All you need is a good chelating shampoo and some ceramides and you are good to go. You can have the thickness and the shine.

can you recommend products from both categories that DONT contain protein? my stylist mistakenly reapplied Phyto to my hair just 5 weeks ago so I'm still dealing with its affects.

if i could get phyto's texturized thickness but actually have some moisture, movement, sheen and swaang id be on :cloud9:

oh and uh....:sekret:....feel free to lemme know what happened with MBB cause that was gonna be what i switched to. how did your hair react to it???....cause id rather deal with dryness than to have some kinda super sucky setback. at least phyto is the devil i know.

so would u say that phyto is just as good as a lye relaxer? Thats what im used to. I didnt like my hair with no-lye at all.

I've been using Phyto II since fall '08. It's my favorite. I can't use lye relaxers because I have a sensitive scalp and I am self-relaxed. I don't have any problems with it now that I now what to do.

As with any no-lye relaxer, you have to chelate and moisturize regularly. I always do an ACV rinse and get my ceramides the day of my relaxer and my hair turns out shiny (almost as shiny as a lye relaxer).

If you want IMMEDIATE moisture use Biolage Cera-Repair Hydratherapie.

I also like Redken Deep Fuel and Anti snap for strength.

As far as MBB :nono:. It made my nape disappear. Poof! :perplexed

I love phyto. Never had the dullness or dryness some experienced. My scalp just feels tight but that was with ANY relaxer. My hair was the exact opposite. Shiny and soft. I get the same repeated results.

I use and prefer Phyto over all the relaxers i've tried in the past. Simply put: it's the best relaxer out there for MY hair. I have an extremely sensitive scalp and i never burn with this at all, plus it straightens my hair better than anything ive ever used. I rarely get breakage with this and my hair seems to be in overall better condition since ive returned to it. I need less trims, my hair retains its thickness from root to tip, my hair grows to a longer length with consistent use, and i'm able to stretch comfortably to 3 months with this product.

Downside: i do experience the dryness people complain about from time to time, but it's easily remedied with a few deep moisture DC treatments and chelating.

I dont ever plan to switch from phyto index 2!

I'm thinking of switching to Phyto but kinda hesitant due to the negative reviews....so here is my question. Do you use any protein Cons at all with Phyto since it has Protein in it? and how does it affect your hair if you do?

Team Phyto!

I don't know where to begin with this relaxer. So, all I'll say is it's the best. Naija, I know you didn't ask me but I still use protein DC's. I can't imagine a relaxer eliminating anyone's need for a protein DC when the hair needs it.

Been using Phyto for a year and a half maybe. I have no plans of stopping.

thx for ans. What CONs do you use to combat the dryness??? I'm deathly afraid of that. I'm currently nursing my hair back to health from protein overload and I hear that Phyto is made with protein so i was just curious if using additional proteins in the form of CONs would cause overload

I loved how Phyto2 straightened my hair, I got it bone straight with lots of silky body HOWEVER after 6 weeks or so it got sooooo DRY. I really wanted to keep using it but to me the dryness wasn't worth it... I went back to Mizani lye

I don't need a lot of protein, but I do use protein Cons:
-1 week before relaxing (medium/heavy protein)
-day of relaxer, (Nexxus Keraphix) 3-5 minutes just after rinsing out relaxer and just before neutralizing
-1 week after relaxing (light protein)
-after 2 months into my stretch (light/medium protein)

Thx chrstndiva, how about moist. CONs what types are the best with Phyto?

The best types of conditioners for Phyto relaxed heads are the ones that contain ceramides (a fatty protein). Redken Deep Fuel, Redken Anti-snap, Biolage Cera-Repair Hydratherapie and Joico Intense Hydrator are really good.

The Biolage Cera-Repair Hydratherapie got rid of the dryness instantly for me. The Redken Deep Fuel stopped the breakage immediately, and the Anti-Snap prevents split ends in my hair.

I also like to seal with Mizani Nighttime H20 Intense or Hemp Oil. These, too, have ceramides in them.

hth.

I used Phyto I for a little over a year until I started back self relaxing two weeks ago (ORS)...I did exprience dryness but nothing extreme...my hair did not get bone straight but I didn't want it to be...I only stopped using it to save money...that trip to the salon would set me back $280-330 every 15 weeks :perplexed.

Co-signing with Taz007.

Moisturizing conditioners with ceramides are a must. I don't use them exclusively because of product buildup, but I do use Nexxus Humectress about every 3 weeks for a DC.

Thinking of trying the Biolage Cera-Repair and adding hemp oil to my home made mixtures.

My hair's needs are very basic and cheap :lachen:
Creme of Nature Nourishing (either the old or new version) - been using it since 2007. Tried all kinds of other stuff and eventually had to come back to this. Mind you, a lot of ladies do not like this conditioner - but my hair doesn't like anything else and it is super moisturizing for me.

Thanks Poochie for posting this thread, I hope you don't think I hijacked it:grin:.
But seriously i've been contemplating this relaxer for some time and thanks to you, Taz,chrstndva, and Globeleza i'm gonna give it a try after my 5 mos. stretch and report back. I'm excited:yep:
