I might try this when I need to trim soon instead of roller setting like I usually do. I can see this being a base for a lot of hair styles. I bet drying time is crazy though.

Well thats not surprising at all considering her 3b/c hair texture, so many simple things can give you straight results with that loose of a curl pattern, roller setting, braidout, twists, hell, she could probably do a doobie wrap on wet hair and get straight hair

I recently did african threading on my 4b hair and everything was nicely stretched except for the ends which were tangled pretty badly unfortunately, I did think of attempting it with a satin ribbon of some sort before so this reminds me to give that a whirl

I think results will vary depending on texture but any natural should be able to get a good degree of stretch from this. I've banded years ago....actually kinda forgot about it until I saw this but my hair didn't get nearly as straight. Curious to see if the strips make a big difference.

It should work on yours. I did it on mine a few weeks OK and I'm a 4b with crazy shrinkage. But drying does take a long time. But if you want it to dry faster use smaller sections.

I just used strips of cut up pantyhose.

I've been doing this for... most of my life actually. It does take forever to dry - almost 2 days, unless I let it partially air-dry loose first. I get better (more stretched) results with cloth strips than with elastic banding. It's not so much for "straight" hair but for stretching the hair to have fewer tangles and less shrinkage. My hair is hip/tailbone; when I do this, it only shrinks to mid-back... as opposed to the usual shoulder length shrinkage. My daughter has a looser hair texture than me, and on her hair, it does initially come out almost as straight as blow-drying, but it does not stay straight as long as blow-drying. I've also used this method on relatives with tighter curls, and it worked just as well. Smaller sections are key if you don't want the hair to be too poofy, but the most important thing is letting it dry completely.

My hair looks a lot like hers but my waves are deeper. I ain't got time for all that drying though. My hair takes forever anyway.

I don't think so. I think it would be just fine. Dryer heat isn't as hot as blow dryer heat.

Should be just fine since a dryer is indirect heat.

When I do it I'll probably sit under the dryer for awhile just to speed up the drying process.
