It just dawned on me that I stretched for a long time (December 6th 2008 and still going strong) and managed not to be lured into a relaxer...I was trying to stretch and decided to actually transition but the temptation to relax is just non-existent, well until I see somebody with a nice wrap or the ethnic hair care aisle in Wal-mart with relaxers lining the shelf :lachen:- but even then I see my newgrowth coming out and it feels SO good to see it! I really like the idea of sort of going back into time where I was only 7 and had natural hair. I haven't seen that girl in 17 years! :) I am so excited! My patience is growing as I focus on the healthy hair and not so much the length. I hope to get BSL but APL will be satisfying. I hope to get another good inch or two that way I can maybe try baggying...and actually get ALL the hairs into an elastic ponytail holder and wear a phony bun and get out of these wigs for a while....summer in Alaska is approaching and my hair needs some sun.....yay!!

How long have you guys kept away from the relaxer? (5 months)
When's the last time you had all virgin hair? (7yrs old)
What hair styles are you ladies hoping to try when you get another inch or two? (Phony bun)
When you get the urge (if you do) to relax what do you say to convince yourself not to? (I say look at the growth and your natural hair is gonna be to die for absolutely marvelous and admirable- Do it girl!)

Good for you! :D So are you transitioning now? The longest I've gone was 4 months. I could have went longer, but I'm too impatient and I had a new relaxer to try

Oh, the last time I was natural, I was 5. My mom relaxed my hair early :perplexed When I get the urge to relax, I just tell myself "It's only ____ weeks, that's nothing! If you relax this early, you'll regret it!"

26 weeks so far and going strong but I'm wearing a wig so that makes it a lot easier. Good luck

Elegant french twists and similar up-dos

The growth and thickness aspect is the kicker. I just think about how much more I can benefit by holding out on the relaxer that tiny bit longer. If necessary I up my conditioning to ease the new growth battle. I'm going to seriously think about low manipulation and not combing the hair between washes as I think this is the key to retention.

Talk about the difference a wig makes! I stay wearing a wig. I am upset that they discontinued this wig I'm wearing cause I got SOOOOOOO many compliments on it and it just suits me so well. I think I will try and find another one online.

How long have you guys kept away from the relaxer?
Since mid December!
When's the last time you had all virgin hair?
Since I was 11 years old...I'm now 22..I can hardly remember how my hair texture was then, all I remember was that it was long and thick.... AAhhhh can't wait!
What hair styles are you ladies hoping to try when you get another inch or two?
I dont kno yet...I'm still researching right now I'm rockin' a twist-out:grin:

I stalk some of the natural girls on LHCF fotki's and the urge goes away....

Yes Ma'am i am transitioning. I've said "no" to the creamy crack! :lachen: Just the excitment of "opening" my present- the day I take down my hair and have NATURAL BSL, is what keeps me going. I'd say thick but my hair is already thick.

First of all, I just wanted to say that it's very cool that you live in Alaska. One of my dream trips is to go and see the aurora borealis. I've wanted to do that since I was a child!

I've stayed away for two months so far. I'm tempted to relax b/c my relaxed hair is in such healthy shape. Really, it's stellar and I'm so proud of where the boards has helped me go.

But I have a curiosity for the unknown. I've been relaxed since I was 7. I want to see how my hair would be all natural. So we will see!

16 years old, my own choice.

What hair styles are you ladies hoping to try when you get another inch or two?
Not sure. I've had a fascination with big hair for the last few years so I'm hoping I can pull off a huge fro.

When you get the urge (if you do) to relax what do you say to convince yourself not to?

I haven't had the urge to relax yet and I honestly don't think I will. The only thing I'll be fighting is the urge to BC, because I told myself I'll be transitioning for a minimum of 2 years.

I'm definitely big chopping.

When you get the urge (if you do) to relax what do you say to convince yourself not to?
I remember all of the versatility that I will have when I am all natural! And I will feel so much better.

Me and you are in the same boat. I've been relaxed since 7 too! I actually had some gorgeous hair according to my Dear Mother. :)

I started transitioning December 6th 2008 and well I haven't relaxed since that day. It's been almost a year!!! I did a BC about 2 months ago and then I did another chop, which was supposed to be a trim to give it shape, but ended up being about 1-2 inches cut off. I was still trying to find my "short-natural-style". It was so tough to see my hair short and curly and doing this hump thing in the middle of my head, so the afro wasn't cuttin it. I regret it though because I could've twisted my hair instead of cutting but now I can't hardly twist cause I can't really grip it. The outer edge is easy to twist but the top is where I cut most. I cut it because a friend told me to stop using those SCUNCI stretch headbands cause they would destroy my hair and I knew, but what else was I to do with my hair for while in uniform? I started wearing my wig again this week. I'm am having a hard time finding a professional, healthy way to do this hair so that it looks cute. It's just so short! I can't even wear barettes to dress it up cause I'm in not allowed to in uniform. A friend suggested I tex-lax, but I am serious about the no chemical thing and I can't tempt myself...ya'll understand right? :(

How long have you guys kept away from the relaxer? 15 weeks

When's the last time you had all virgin hair? 11 years old

What hair styles are you ladies hoping to try when you get another inch or two? Dunno. I'm doing what I want right now. (Protective styling mostly) I'm about an inch from APL (keeping my layered grass)

When you get the urge (if you do) to relax what do you say to convince yourself not to? LUVS!!!! YOU'S PO!!! Financial difficulty is an awesome motivator for stretching. :yep: :lachen:

Prettier, more fuller buns

When you get the urge (if you do) to relax what do you say to convince yourself not to? I just think, if I relax now, the change in length wont be nice enough. The longer I wait to relax is the happier I will be with my hair length

Lurker coming out for this one!

How long have you guys kept away from the relaxer?

Nine months now

When's the last time you had all virgin hair?

15 I believe

What hair styles are you ladies hoping to try when you get another inch or two?

Honestly...I don't know. I just know I want to grow my hair to waistlength, then chop the relaxed ends off then.
Maybe a really nice updo. I always where buns.

When you get the urge (if you do) to relax what do you say to convince yourself not to?

I don't get the urge, I think after all the mess I went through with relaxed hair and not taking care of it I finally smartened up lol :yep:

I've been in a mental slump and detachment from my LHCF (due to laziness in renewing my subscription) and decided to look at some of my old threads and read any other responses I received and give thanks and it's amazing what difference you see from who you were back then. I was super excited. Now I am like, when's my hair gonna be bangin'!! Lol! Now I am just so darn proud I stretched and chopped almost 3 years ago. :) Amen to that. Now if I could workout and eat healthy with such endurance I might be a bikini model. What what!! Lol!
