WOW!!! I put ginger on my scalp

I was reading a book on juicing and the author suggested juicing a ginger root and applying the juice to your scalp as a scalp astringent.

That was an awesome treat. I juiced the ginger. Poured the juice in an applicator bottle and applied it to small sections of my scalp. After about 3 minutes my head heated up as if I had on a hot cap. It was wonderful. I did this as a preshampoo treatment.

Have you tried this before? If so do you do this as a preshampoo or post shampoo treatment?

hey... i have never tried it, but it definitely sounds therapeutic....it good to hear you had good results...i will have to give this a try.... /images/graemlins/smile.gif /images/graemlins/smile.gif /images/graemlins/smile.gif thanks for sharing...

I know that ginger naturally stimulates metabolism and is used in holistic remedies...never thought to use it on the scalp. Great idea. Thanks

This is a really good idea... sounds kinda like the feeling when you put cinnamon (canela) conditioners on your scalp. I'm gonna try this /images/graemlins/smile.gif

That is supposed to be a Hair Growth Tonic (I wonder if we have the same juicing book /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif ). Mine says... [ QUOTE ]
Ginger Juice Tonic

1- to 2-inch piece of ginger root

Juice ginger root. Pour the juice on your head and massage into the scalp. Let dry for 10-15 minutes; then shampoo. Ginger root juice has been used naturopathically to stimulate circulation to the scalp. Your head will feel a tingling sensation, as if it just had a Certs!

I haven't tried it yet. (Too lazy to have to clean up my old cumbersome juicer /images/graemlins/tongue.gif so I haven't tried any of the suggested recipes.) But I'm glad to hear you had a good experience. Keep us posted on whether it boosts your hair growth.

Thanks for the actual recipe! /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif Is the a juicer the only way you can get the juice out of ginger?

Re: WOW!!! I put ginger on my scalp

Yes, I have tried it. My hair stylist would give me this type of treatment whenever my scalp was really try. How did it make your scalp feel?

This is supposed to make your hair grow faster? How so?

I guess the same way essential oils and/or massage does, by stimulating circulation of the blood to hair follicles so that nutrients and oxygen can be delivered efficiently. Of course a good diet (or adequate supply of the nutrients to your entire system) so that the other cells of the body don't rob the blood of all the good stuff before it makes it to your head would further help ensure your hair growth reached its peak.

But every little counts, so just do what you can manage and what works for you. Topical applications may make no difference to one whose circulation is already at its optimum (say people who work out or massage their scalps regularly or who do Yoga esp inverted asanas), since there'd hardly be any improvement in circulation necessary. Neither would they work on one whose diet was lacking in sufficient nutrients for the whole body. Coz remember, the body gets served first before hair and nails, so if you focus on holistic health, you should be on the right track.

Re: WOW!!! I put ginger on my scalp

I have this in my juice manual too. I didn't know what it was for. Thanks.

Re: WOW!!! I put ginger on my scalp

Good idea! I've been steeping ginger root in my olive oil along with rosemary to stimulate scalp circulation.

Re: WOW!!! I put ginger on my scalp

The juice on my scalp turned my head HOT very HOT. It didn't burn but it certainly felt similar to a hair dryer or a hot cap.

Good idea Greenidlady, next time I will add rosemary eo to the ginger root that ought to bring about excellent results.

JUST AN IDEA, Onceuponatime and those of you that don't have a juicer perhaps you can just use ginger tea.

I have a Champion. It's pretty clunky but it's 20 years old and the only part I have ever had to replace is the blade.

I am thinking we all have the same juicing book. How could I forget about this? I feels and smells wonderful! I love ginger - oh wait that's why I stopped, I use it up too fast for cooking /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That's a great idea, gn1g! Especially when ginger root is not readily available. I'll buy some this weekend!

LB_Williams, per recommendation, I Googled Champion juicers. My head was spinning with all of the juicer options out there and the sites selling Champions, gave great explainations as to the differences. I also like that the company has produced them for such a long time. I'm considering the Champion Jr.

Great advice. Thank you both!
