i feel bad cus it is kinda funny.

but the fact that this is playing on the Air...ugh..i can only imagine what ppl are thinking..who the hell gets weave from yaks?

i thought it was in poor taste. and it doesn't say much for their service. the hair doesn't come from yaks.

Why do people associate weaves with black women. There are more white women that were weaves and weaves started out for white women decades and decades ago. All that hair being worn by 1930's actresses was not their real hair.

and it was ALLL black women, the one commerical where its all black folks?? gotta be advertising weaves..

GTFOH!

i know. they could have easily put a white girl in the chair next to her getting blonde tracks or something. we all know -everyone- gets extensions. sick of stereotypes.

i thought it was kinda funny,
yeah it is stereotypical but then again what isnt.

but its true and sadly enough, some weaves actually do come from yaks. usually never 100% but there is yak blend in alot of weaves.

I thought it was funny, actually. Though I do agree, they could of tossed a white girl in one of those chairs...but then I guess it wouldn't have seemed right. Looks like one of the hood salons around here...no white girls come around there lol. I'm sure they know though...I mean Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton have their own line of extensions. My SO tried to tell me he never saw a white girl with them in her hair. I told him he probably has, but because "white girls all have long beautiful hair flowing out of their scalps" he didn't think they did. I don't see people weave-checking white girls like they do black women. Then again, I only see us with the tracks sticking out and trying to put the silky weave under obviously unhealthy, damaged, kinky, gelled down hair. -_- *sigh*

While I feel like the commercial was a little bit too bold to just blatantly make fun of black women who wear weaves, I don't see the whole "why didn't they add a yt girl in the mix?" point. Let's be real, it's mostly yt celebrities or Pamela Anderson-type wannabes that wear extensions. On the other hand, a very large percentage of black women regularly wear weaves. I think people forget LHCF is not the real world. I bet when you go grocery shopping, to the mall, to church, etc. those sporting weaves/braids greatly outnumber those wearing their own hair.

im just upset its even airing..and that other ppl are going to see this and keep perpetuating this foolishness. even if it was funny.

I didn't have a chance to see it, what exactly happened?

ETA: Ok saw it. Well if was only a matter of time. If the Yak fits wear it. It's not like Black women aren't known for lovin' the Yak.

i dont think its funny. i didnt crack a smile at all. i think its stupid and offensive.

we hardly ever see an all black commercial. but when we do they have us either eatin a bucket of chicken or twistin our necks and rollin our eyes in the back of our heads, suckin our teeth and gettin an attitude.

and then when we see this we laugh and say its true and claim its not offensive but then wonder why people continue to degrade us and see us in a negative light.

i bet you if a black man made a commercial about yt chicks being a bunch of bi, attention hungry slores who just love the black mans peen that mess would NEVER make it on air and becky and biff would be demanding the person who even THOUGHT to create this give a public apology. whether its true or not.

but us? naw..we just sit back and laugh and wonder why no one else has any respect for us when we dont bother to demand it for ourselves. but w.e....i guess i'm just making a big deal out of nothing

I agree with you however we know this already yet many of us are walking stereotypes. My advice; don't watch television. It's mainly trash regardless of race.

I didn't find it offensive, and this is coming from someone who is normally overly sensitive about that sort of thing.

I wholeheartedly agree; but on the other hand, it could be a subliminal message that's being conveyed--and that is: "This is what they are wearing--animal hair, and we're selling it to them . . . because they are below the human race, and we're making millions off of them." :yep:

fyi, this commercial won't air on TV. b/c of the complaints (but while they still made the commercial based on questions received and "themes in popular culture") the commercial has been pulled from TV.

this is a big problem. lots of people sit back and are OK with stereotypes. i am not one of those people. the change has to start with us as individuals speaking up against it or making our own commercials, tv programs, movies, etc. if one sits back, then it will continue. i know a bunch of ppl will disagree with me and think it's pointless but that's the only way, i think, to kill a negative stereotype.

sure, it's true. lots of women wear weaves and eat fried chicken. but lots of them don't. and lots of them don't shake their head, snap their fingers and say "Oh no you didn't!". please, that phrase is so dated anyway.

My first instinct was to laugh (kinda hard). So I am going with "Its Funny". And yeah, I've known that Yaki meant Yak hair for years.

life is too short for us to be offended at every single thing that might be in bad taste.....

if they had put white chicks would any one of us have complained that they are degrading women???????
i dont think so.....i'm sure many would probably be laughing at the bad taste (coz it was funny!!!!)......JUST AS LONG AS IT WAS NOT DIRECTED AT BLACK WOMEN.

there are much worse things in the world that should stress us.....

LIKE GROWING LONG HAIR!!!!!! LOL!
HHG!!!!!!
