Check out this site for a handmade metal hair fork from Germany:http://www.etsy.com/shop/senzalimiti?ref=top_trail

I haven't bought from them but jupitermoon used to wear one like the attached and she had thick thick hiplength 3c hair. It looks extremely well made and I see a lot of folks on Longhair sites wearing similar ones. I think it's sturdier than the ones from the Chinese vendor sites. I have been reluctant to buy something from her because her prices are in the $40-60 range but now seeing that thing for almost $90 - nah son.

My other favorite Etsy shops are

http://www.etsy.com/shop/PacificMerchantile (handmade wooden and acrylic sticks and forks from Oregon very affordable and great customer service)

http://www.etsy.com/shop/NightBlooming?section_id=5178596 (higher end quality sticks that I like because many can be used on wet hair)

http://www.etsy.com/shop/Aliarose (fun sticks)

http://www.etsy.com/shop/PurpleMoonDesigns?section_id=6907176 (sticks, combs, and forks)

http://www.etsy.com/shop/Hairjems?ref=usr_faveitems&atr_uid=7031107 (higher end quality sticks)

I do recommend http://www.crystalmood.com/ for newbies and folks wanting to start with less expensive toys.

Quecraft sells mass produced pieces - a lot of asian vendors on etsy have the same stuff and are marketing it as handmade

I had one wood hair stick from crystalmood.com and I liked it, but it had a drill holed in it like where something is supposed to go, like someone could just add a bead to it and resell it as handmade. I don't really have any problems with that but I won't be purchasing from them again. It would be cool to find a wholesale vendor and get a lot of them for cheap though.

Thanks for the info!
I'll def still order from Quecraft - I do like the items and can't find forks locally.

I had to stop ordering from quecraft bc my stuff took a month to arrive and twice it got lost. I like her stuff and prices are cheap but I don't like waiting or not getting my stuff.

It did take a while to arrive, but other than that, no problems.
Do you find things locally? There's NOTHING good in the B&M stores in my area :(

My experience with them was less than positive. They were always losing my order. Once it came like 2 months later after they'd already refunded me. They are extremely nice and their stuff is cute but I guess I'm spoiled. I want my stuff right away and my other etsy sellers are very very quick.

There are a couple of cute things I can get at a BSS near me. They are really cheap though so they don't last. I've found very cute flowers, headbands, and beads for my girls' hair though.

Hair thingies just get lost in my house... So no. I swear there is a hair tie thief in the neighborhood b/c I go through so many!

I found ut who my hair tie theif was (my kitteh Jasper eats them :ohwell:)
now to find the sock theif - Im sure Jasper aint eating those lol

to answer the question - nope. But if I were googoo about hair stuff I probably would:look: (im currently contemplating buying an iron cat figurine for the same price - I collect cat themed things)

If I loved it enough, yes. Quality over quantity because if I'm dropping that kind of dough it would have to be of high quality to last forever.

I've spent that amount buying hair products, this is no different.

$85 Dollars?

I think the whats her name from tightlycurly has that or one that looks like it. If I felt I would get enough use out of a hairtoy and use it exclusively tentative maybe.

Actually scratch that. $20-30 is tops for me fancy hair toy wise and even then my wallet will feel the pain.

I dunno...if I Loved it, then yes. I don't mind spending money for satisfaction...if I have it to spend that is.

yep! now that i am transitioning, my hair is breaking banana clips and i am on the search for ponytail scrunchies for thick, long hair....

if i found something that would hold all this hair and not break in the middle of my work day on me, heck to the yeah i would spend $85.

as it is, i have had clips just snap open and break out of nowhere.
i am on the websites now of some of the clips mentioned here to try and find a banana clip that is quality.

While I don't necessarily like the comb OP posted, I think of my hair toys as pieces of art. Many of the handmade ones are one of a kind and have beautiful stones. They are like pieces of jewelry. I know many of you wouldn't think twice about spending $85 on a nice piece of quality jewelry.

I really like the way that you put this. :yep: I tend to think in terms of functionality when it comes to hair and less on them being art pieces. Well said!

Not to mention it may have the possibility of becoming a collector's item.

As I sit here eating my bento box I think I would, if I really liked the piece. I mean, if you have ever purchased a bottle of Wen's 613, a few extra dollars won't break the bank. Plus my 613 will be gone in a short few months but I'd still have my hair candy :)

I just came in here to say :spank:wavezncurlz for getting me addicted to crystal mood and all those vendors on etsy. I was so unbelievably bored with my updos but all these delightful new toys have given my updos a new lease on life.
