3rd Big Chop on 7/18/2016
So I heard about these solid handmade brass hair clips for a good 2 or more years. Back then it was $75, now they charging $85. I always wanted one when I was texlaxed/relaxed and almost MBL, but now that I'm natural idk if I want to spend that much for a hair clip. Would you?

Yes, I would. I spent $50 on a Ficcare clip...my hair is thick and cheap clips break EVERY.TIME. My Ficcare has been going strong for 3 years and counting.
 
Not that particular item but when I see something pretty expensive that I want and can't find cheaper elsewhere I will splurge. Particulary if it is something that will last.

For higher quality, American made artisan stuff check the other sites I listed: etsy, artfire, big cartel, maybe storenvy. You'd probably find something under $30.

Now these are more like it. I don't even think the clips in the original post were even cute. I get the brass thing, but that doesn't make them look better. Purely my opinion.

I don't mind spending the money, just rather find something worth it.

It is a challenge finding clips and combs that wont break (especially WHILE I'm wearing it), break my hair, fly out of my hair, etc but I won't spend $85 on one. That would be the one I would lose in the locker room at the gym, or just vanish at home. :lol:
 
Hair thingies just get lost in my house... So no. I swear there is a hair tie thief in the neighborhood b/c I go through so many!
 
wavezncurlz Has a nice collection of well made hair sticks, clips and barrettes. I believe she gets the majority on etsy. Wavez, what are your favorite stores for hair toys?
 
I wouldn't buy that particular one - not my style

But now that my hair is very long, I find that I can't realy put it up with elastics or claw clips any more. I use hairsticks for all my buns. I just bought a set of 4 for $30 which is expensive for me - but they are handmade from natural wood and really nice. I am going to get some type of fork next. It will be handmade from quality materials. I have to invest in something unique and durable

I don't know what my limit is yet, i've only just started using these things. I am afraid of breaking or losing them.
 
If I paid that type of money for a hair item it would have to be something I saw in person and could verify it's quality and beauty and it would be with the understanding that I would take care of it and to keep it for longevity to get my money's worth out of it.
 
No way I paid 40 something dollars for a %100 pure silk wig cap/beanie and bonnet, my 2 mane clips were 10.00 a piece. My flexi rods were 46.00. and curl formers 72.00. But no way would I pay 85.00 for one clip.

for 85 i would hope it came with insurance, i would never simply cause i dont have that type of money.

Although I don't mind paying upwards of $100 on antique sterling silver hairtoys, there is NO WAY I would spend $85 on a contemporary brass piece.

In the Victorian era, women had long and thick hair, so I figure if a comb has made it through 100+ years, there's no reason why it can't be around for another 100 years. If their hair didn't break it, I doubt mine will!

I can leave my antique clips/combs to my DD's - they are an investment that will rise in value. A new brass comb, likely made in Asia isn't an heirloom and I couldn't justify such a purchase.

I get inexpensive hairtoys from an etsy vendor - geez, I can't remember the name right now - but the forks are handmade of antlers (in Asia) and run around $20 or so. I think wavezncurlz used this vendor, too.

ETA: It's QUECRAFT - their stuff is awesome for the price.

It's never about the money with me. It's usually about the quality and uniqueness. I don't just waste money but if it's pretty and I think it will last a long time and not everyone has it, I don't mind spending.
 
Nope. $25 is my limit when it comes to hair stuff, unless its an appliance like a flat iron, or weave. And i would never spend more than $15 on a hair clip. The most I ever spent on a single non-electric hair item is $20 for the ouidad double detangler, but it was worth it.

A Ficcare clip is the only type of hair clip that I've spent a lot of money on. I only own one, and I've had it for a few years now.

Quecraft sells mass produced pieces - a lot of asian vendors on etsy have the same stuff and are marketing it as handmade

I had one wood hair stick from crystalmood.com and I liked it, but it had a drill holed in it like where something is supposed to go, like someone could just add a bead to it and resell it as handmade. I don't really have any problems with that but I won't be purchasing from them again. It would be cool to find a wholesale vendor and get a lot of them for cheap though.
