Would you let a different race relax your hair?

@WhippedButterCream LOL! No I live in the South Bay so you already know why I'm thinking about having another race relax my hair!

I'm somewhat particular. All my life, it's really only been Trinidadians relaxing my hair (once a Dominican outside of the mainland U.S.). That's it.

Never had an AA stylist because my uncle was my stylist. However, most I saw seemed to leave relaxer in for a long time and that doesn't work for me. If I ever relaxed again, it would likely be Trinidadian or Ethiopian or something...unless someone gave me a good recommendation. That's about it.

(I'm assuming that by "race" you mean "culture" based on your post)

My last hair stylist for relaxers was white. I was the first black person she gave a relaxer to but not the first person. She was gentle, thorough, and my hair responded nicely to her. The only reason I stopped going to her was because the other stylists in te salon were too chatty for my liking.

yes but only if they came with good recommendations. I've been to plenty of black stylists who didn't know what the hell they were doing so race doesn't matter.

i always see the work first. i had an italian female stylist. a white male stylist. a hispanic male stylist. a persian female stylist. a chinese female stylist. i have also been to a number of black stylists. i can tell you that the ethnicity has nothing to do with knowledge. one of my best former stylists was white. one of my worst was black.

i would go to the salon. get a blow dry and style. get there early and watch them do hair for awhile.

i need to see their work. especially with chemicals, i don't care what race you are. i need to know you know what you are doing.

Based on my past experience the answer would be no. The last time I let a non-black person touch my hair with chemicals, the hair on the back of my head all fell out. It seems that non-black stylists are really not trained to deal with Black hair, and some of them are quite frankly afraid of it. I would need to observe that person servicing other clients and see how their hair turned out for me to even consider them touching my hair.

I agree with this 100%

I'm open but I want a stylist in general who knows what they're talking about AND what they're doing. Ive seen some bomb white stylist on YouTube styling black hair so I'm totally open.

I let a gay spanish guy do my hair one time, and he gave me PERFECTION. It felt like Weave hair, it was so perfect. All I could do is say "OMG...it feels like Doll hair!!" He was gone when I went back, but bless his soul! If I could go to him consistently, I'd go back to being relaxed just to make it happen!!

Yep. Growing up, my mom's stylist was white, and she would relax my hair when my regular stylist wasn't available. Plus in the area where I live, it seems like a lot of the Asian stylists that work at the Hair Cuttery locations that I went to were good with relaxers.

I would if I still relaxed. I learned a while ago that just because someonenis black doesn't mean they automatically know how to care for my hair.

I do all the time, I don't like black people touching my hair, Dominicans know black hair better than they do, maybe because their hair is similar. Every time I let a black person touch my hair it get tangled miserable because the rubbing the towel roughly, not combing it under the water and I get a lot of breakage. Last time I went to the salon and I saw the owner who is Dominican and the rest was black I whispered in her ear do she have any Dominicans that can do my hair and she says she will do it! Because usually the other Dominican lady does my hair but she was off
