Hi, Ladies -

What is your advice on workouts day of relaxer? I am planning to do a touch up today, but I also have made a hard commitment to exercising. My fear is the sweat will cause an issue with my scalp and burning later in the day.

Anyone have any experience with this? If I wait several hours, do you think it will be an issue?

Don't do it....I was perspiring from just cleaning up around the house - I even got under a cool dryer attempting to close my pores....and I was burning like crazy....

Can't you just relax your hair on the days of the week that you don't workout.

Yeah, thank you. I decided to relax now instead.

Thanks again!

Yeah I am not going to work out today. The thing was I just started my workout schedule Friday. I felt motivated to workout today, and I did not want to start making the excuses, you know?

But the touch up is more important right now.

Don't. But if you do, sit under a hooded dryer on cool air for about 20 mins to close your pores.

You could always work out while the conditioner is in your hair. I just tie a scarf around my plastic cap, and it doesn't drip or run at all.

Depending on your workout routine, if I were you I would workout with weights today. No cardio. Maybe stick to upper body muscles - biceps, chest, abdominal work...

or just stretch out that day or do abdominal work like someone suggested..

that way no scalp issues..

Work out after you relax.(runs out of thread:giggle::hide:)

Do this on the day you're not working out, or do it BEFORE you work out.

Trust me on this.

well, my question is about the relaxer process. I don't think it should effect your scalp so badly that you can't sweat later in the day. Back when I used to go to stylists that burned my scalp it was an issue, but now my stylist does relaxers and my scalp is fine throughout the process. In fact, I like working out on that day and the few days after because I don't have to worry about my new growth getting kinky.

I never knew that it was bad to workout after a relaxer. I've always worked out beforehand or skipped altogether so I could floss my relaxed hair. I never knew that I was inadvertently protecting my scalp.

Thanks for starting this thread OP.

I don't have a relaxer but this is a good tip for preserving a hairstyle and getting a good workout in at the same time

once I worked out the morning I did my touch up ..... my scalp burned like I was in the lower reaches of hell.

we had to wash it out
