Wore my first roller set today.

And it was cute for like two hours. I tried rolling it dry using my Elasta QP mango butter, some oil on the ends etc. And my hair went POOF! Not frizzy just really huge.

I've had it tied down with a scarf (I ALWAYS carry a silky with me when I wear my hair down) and below is how it looks after being mashed under the scarf.

My question is should I try this w/heat and wet next time to avoid the root poofage? I dig the big bouncy curls but good lord all mighty it was HUGE. And oddly my hair curls very differently on the right side than it does on the left. I'm still trying to master that.

But this was one of my goals for this month. To try roller setting at least once. I'm probably going to try again next week and sit under my soft bonnet to set it.

But I will say I was digging the shine. Even after being mashed and rained on it still was shiny. YAY.

I will probably upload the pics into my fotki at some point too. I want to keep track of my experiments I embark on while I'm learning to style my hair. Please ignore the shiny crappy skin and no make up. I've had the flu for a week and I look like a hot mess.

Yes, always do your rollersets on dripping wet, clean hair. Heat is not necessary to have bouncy, shiny curls. One can airdry in a rollerset too and get the same results, just more moisturized.

I cant rollerset without heat, it would be a poofy mess as I'm texlaxed. I use my hood dryer on medium and it comes out very smooth and sliky. I usually touch it up with a flat iron, I would'nt have to however if I wasn't texlaxed.

Congrats on your rollerset. I only rollerset with heat and to me that helps set the curl until the next wash or rain, which ever comes first. Your hair came out nice. I love large rollersets, the bigger ther better.

Air drying works for me if I have a fresh relaxer then I can rollerset (clean, wet hair) without heat..

But the longer I stretch my relaxers out then I have to use heat(dome dryer) when I do my rollersets after washing/deep con. By using heat w/ my rollersets post relaxer this helps straighten my new growth.

The pic that you have shown is really nice. That is some shiny, bouncy hair you got there gal!

Thank you ladies. I was kind of afraid that I'd really need heat. I am still kinda scared to use heat. I used to be heat crazy and I don't want to screw up my hair.

I definitely co-sign to this!

I wasn't a believer that a rollerset could be done w/o heat, but listening to & practicing what ISIS & others have suggested has convinced me!

I just did my second rollerset, but it's the first one I'd wear outside the house! It is so soft, bouncy, moisturized and I am 10 wks post. I have alot of new growth, but you can't see or feel it!

FAB- OO- LUS!!!
