It's starting to become hat and glove weather out there. How do you protect your hair from your hat? Do you wear silk/satin scarves or bonnets?

I think some people line the inside of their hats with silk/ satin fabric for protection. My personal choice is to wear weaves during the cold weather so I don't have to worry about damage from hats.

I tie my hair up with a silk scarf then I put on my satin bonnet then I put on my hat :look:. I haven't suffered from "winter breakage" in years.

If it's a hat that I plan on wearing all day, like a snood, then I just wear my bonnet underneath it. I plan on wiggin it this winter though

Good question and something I never thought about before. Most of my hats are wool or cotton and I just wear them without any type of scarf. Maybe I should.

I'm a plastic cap or Saran wrap junkie. I wear it under my hats and under my wraps.

Some winters I've worn a silk floral scarf, tied babushka style. :yep:

Some winters I've worn wigs, or braids. When I have braids I always make sure to tie on a silk scarf under my hat.

When I was relaxed and I had to go to work in blustery winter weather, I kept my hair wrapped up and tied with my satin scarf underneath my winter hat. When I got to work I'd go to the ladies room and comb my wrap out.

I full head baggie under my wig during the harsh winter months. This really help me to stay warm and my hair stay moisturized.Sometimes around the house I just baggie under a wool hat (yes, I live alone) to keep that toasty feeling!

You dress up your baggy and you live alone? I walk around with a baggy and nothing else on top when I'm at home alone. No shame in my game.

GREAT idea I'm gonna do that. I have all these satin scarves and I love to sew!

Thanks you ladies. I'm gonna try to sew my satin bonnet to the inside of my hat again. It didn't workout the first time, my big head bust the stiches trying to put the hat on!

I wish I could baggy and have it feel good. I don't know maybe its the shower caps i'm using but baggying makes me feel gross. And it makes my head feel like its mildewing, idk. It's a weird (probably solely mental) feeling.

Someone a posted a site a while back with a website that sold satin lined hats, but they were like $50 and up, so I'll just sew my own onto a regular hat.

If you sew, just get some slippery fabric (preferably silk) and sew it into your wool hats as a lining. Even if you don't sew, it's not hard to do.

Even if you cant sew you can just line the inside of the cap with a silky fabric, cut the excess, and glue with fabric glue. :yep:

I live in FL but that's what I do when I visit NJ in Dec. I'm actually thinking of moving up there next year

I'm bunning/protective-styling 'til the end of the year anyway. So...I simply tie with my silk/satin scarf, then I don my wool or cotton or whatever-its-made-of hat. When I get to where I'm going, I take if off. During the colder months, my hair NEVER has access to the oustide world!! :lachen:

Imma Invest in a Wig which will serve as My Winter Hat (beginning in January):yep:

Underneath, I plan to alternate with: My Prettywrap, a Satin Cap or sometimes

Baggy DC on Dry Hair on my Hair Day which is Friday.

My Plan is to Wig-It until March/April.:look:

Great thread! I was thinking about this and the damage from wool coat collars on my length today. Although I plan to bun a lot!

I just purchased a pretty wrap so I can wear that over my hair (while my hair is still wrapped), under a hat. hooray for winter hat hair protection!
