I've been wigging it for about 10 months now. I think my hair is only about an inch longer all over, after all the poorly stressed hair is gone now.

I haven't trimmed in a long time...

I find that when I try to wash my hair, I wash, DC, and then rinse out the DC and leave in another tpye of conditioner, pull my hair in a bun and cover it with a wig. I am getting so lazy but I know I need to step up my regimen and DC (plus MT/OCT) at least twice a week (daily for OCT/MT)...especially since I'm texlaxed now.

How often are you taking out the wig (or removing it if you're using a lf) and caring for your hair for growth?

I think I seriously need to schedule this in... I don't want no more wigs by 2010 .... or mid 2009!

(I'm really trying to go from nose length in the front to full shoulder and Apl in the back and break past that "pre lhcf terminal point". )

And I appreciate any and all of you who respond!

My hair is natural, and I've been wearing wigs as protective styles since July/August 2007.

I usually go to the hairdresser and have my hair cornrowed in a circle (as if I'm getting a weave), and I keep these in for 6-8 weeks. Sometimes, after I take the cornrows out, I'll plait my hair in small plaits and wear those for about 4 weeks. I prefer the cornrows because my ends are protected, they are less bulky, and I use less products when I cowash and deep condition.

I only wear my wig when I go out. Usually, I remove it as soon as I get home. Underneath the wig, I tie/cover my hair with a black satin doo rag and tuck the ends under.

I deep condition my hair once each week, and I condition wash at least twice each week. I moisturize twice daily (morning and night) and seal with castor oil. I'm also starting to get back into the habit of hennaing my hair after I take the cornrows out (once every 1.5-2.0 months).

Has it been worth it? Yes. My hair is thriving, and I'm achieving my goals. Once I get there, I'll wear the wigs periodically and my real hair will be the star of the show :yep:.

That's my regimen.

Just wanted to say. my mother started wearing a wig against my better judgement I thought she would wear it and forget about her hair. I told her to keep it oiled hardly ever sleep on it...though I know she did sometimes. Much to my surprise her hair is past her shoulders in just a years time....I kid u not..........Good Luck Anna

I guess it would be beneficial to let someone else handle those braids and do them in such a fashion, especially since I plan on getting a new lacefront!

Thanks for the input!

ive been wearing a lace front for about a month now. I use the glue or tape occassionally and just bobby pin it down most of the time. When its bobby pinned I moisturize and apply BT every 3-4 days.

After I wash a deep condition I flat twist my hair straght back (cant cornrow for nothing)

Hey LaurynDoll (I love that name) ..may I ask why are you still doing the texlax if you've been wearing the wig for so long? no attack , just curious. I have natural hair and will never do chems again but I'm not a natural hair militant.

I would just think that you would have more growth and retention if you didn't have the chem. I know how much work it is to transition though.

I have been closely following the wig threads cause I want my hair to grow past APL. I seem to be stuck there.

My plan is to wear the wigs all Winter. I will cornrow or something like that (I can't cornrow well for nothing) using Miss Jessies buttercreme. I found that it really keeps my hair mositurized . I finally ordered the OCT/MT so I will apply that nightly 3-4x wk. and rinse in the AM. I will then spray on Cathy Howse dew spray , that along with the Ms Jessies keeps my hair very soft and moist. Every 2-3 weeks I will wash & DC and rebraid.

Hopefully, the low manipulation , the moisture and wearing a satin wig cap under my wigs will help me to progress in my quest for more length.

I had a wig sewn into my head. I would have my hair corn rowed and oil it with castor oil. I also would braid the cornrows with braid sheen. My hair has definitely grown with in the two months I wore wigs.

I do the wig regimen, but sometimes I would go back and forth from wigs to sew in weaves and nothing else. Either I'm in sew ins or wigs my hair is ALWAYS cornrowed in a circle and lucklily I can cornrow my own hair. There are times when the cornrows get old and I would take them down and wear my hair as is, but for only 1-2 days and I rebraid again. But my regimen is:
1. Leave cornrows in for atleast 1month-2months and rebraid
2. Deep condition atleast 1-2 times a week
3. Moisturize Daily with any moisturizer (I take my wig off everynight before bed and if I'm in a sew in I use braid spray everyday on my braids
4. Daily scalp massages
5. Relax every 3 -4 months
6. ABSOLUTELY NO HEAT (only on the weave), after washes I only blow dry with cold air. I get the same results as with hot but it takes 10 minutes longer.

I haven't used any miracle or specific products and I have went from 2 inches in August 08 to 6.5 inches in April '09 so I did get my .5 an inch a month. Just a few months ago my sister's hair was longer than mines and now mines is longer and she is thrilled at how far my hair has come along. It's very thick and healthier than ever before.

Hey,

I just saw this months later!!!

I thought if I could texturize it, then maybe I can transition away from those wigs... lol... I changed my mind and am still wig happy.

I wear a lace front, but I don't use the glue or tape and the lace blends right into my skin without it. I do use Bobby Pins to keep it on. I take my wig off when I'm not out. I cowash 3-4 times a week, and DC once a week. My hair is always kept damp under the wig, and my hair is growing faster than ever by doing this. Good Luck.

My routine is the same as above and I have seen dramatic improvment in the lenth and health of my hair

dumb question: but how do you Dc with cornrows in? Does the conditioner get rinsed out? Please help, I'm interested in the regimen but i have to be sure I understood it well. Thanks.

I water my DC down and use a squirt bottle to get under and around the braids. Works like a charm.
