why the use of so many products?

Once I found what works for me. I stayed with the same shampoo and conditioner. I only recently addded a new conditioner. I also have products depending on how I want to wear my hair. If you wear the same style all the time then it's simple. Me...I go from straight, to rollersets, to wash and go to wraps. I get bored with the same hairstyles. It all depends on the look I am going for...just like any other woman...regardless of what texture or ethnic background... it's like shoes...it all depends on the occasion...you can never have enough shoes or clothes...for that matter. I like to change up alot...

I think it's just pure PJ'ism on a lot of people's part honestly. I didn't use half as many products before coming to this board as I do now.

But, I've been discarding stuff that I don't use ever so often, which is good for me. Everything I have now, I use for different purposes. Smooth-n-Shine Gel doesn't work like Jam, which doesn't work like Elasta QP Glaze, which doesn't work like Fantasia Aloe Vera Gel.

ANB-

i use different products b/c #1 i am a pj (but i think i am cured.)

secondly, my hair needs different treatments at different stages: when my hair is freshly retouched i used products for body and moisture, when i'm midway i use mostly moisturizing products, and when it's time to retouch i use protein and moisturizing products.

i am a colored (double processed)head so i have products that are for colored hair.

sometimes i have flakes/dry scalp (not lately) and i have a product to address this too.

i hope this answered your ?

I basically use whatever product combination will work for my hair. I try to get with a minimalist routine, but it really depends on what my hair is doing at the time.

I don't use any styling products at all. If a bobby pin won't keep my hair down, then forget it.

I basically use a shampoo, conditioner (moisture/protein), Surge and an oil. Sometimes a hair creme if my hair is really not doing well. I keep a protein treatment on hand just in case. I try not to use anything more than that, because my hair simply can't take it, but it also can't take being "naked" from not oiling it.

Women are marketed to so much that it's hard not to want to switch products. I mean the packaging is so purrty and some of the products smell so good...and some of us, like myself are just plain ole product junkies...

It's a hobby for me. I like to try new things all the time, even if I find treasured products.

ITA Anky, hair and this board have become one of my passions. Buying a hair product gives me the same thrill I get when I buy new clothes.

My hair is short no longer than an inch because my main goal is to get my dermatitis to clear up which im becoming sucessful with. Although i had a minor set back yesterday because i had some food with "whey" in it a milk by-product. I immediately flared up. Also my sides are thin so im waiting for them to get thick so i can start wearing braids so i can grow my hair out. My hair is so strong now. Now back to the topic. I used to by alot of products then i realize how things my seem to work but i really be exaggerating or something like a certain vitamin me be the cause. Like surge it did nothing for me. I bought every two greases from doo gro. I had pink oil lotion, indian hemp grease, all of profectiv's hair care line. Now im either giving them away or throwing them away.

I think it's called Mofroitis or Musgrow Syndrome, and is a disease peculiar to AA culture. AA's spend millions of dollars yearly to combat this insidious disease that attacks millions of AA's from childhood to late adulthood. Symptoms include excessive salivating and outbreaks of sweat when presented with new products of grease, lotions and potions. Sometimes the only relief is to apply several layers of oil and a variety of shampoos and conditioners over a very short period of time or to comb and brush frantically in a ritualistic fashion. Some are reduced to shampooing daily or once a month to lubricate or medicate ( with smelly concoctions) ,the bruised follicles and hair shafts. Also noted is the excessive and frequent discussion of hair and grease, lotions and potions, but this is only in the advanced stages of the disease. For further information, contact Dr. I. N. Currently available, a variety of suregrow grease lotions and potions and scalp exfoliaters to unclog your hair follicles and grow your hair longer than you ever dreamed. You must try these products!!!!

You do have a point though. A simple regimen is always most effective, like I had as a child. Just shampoo, water and grease (I don't remember seeing any conditioner). My natural hair was long, strong and healthy. As soon as relaxers were introduced in my life, hair products appeared. Since coming to this board, I now have more products than I ever had in life, which actually isn't a lot, just more.

I know for me...when I first went natural...I was in PJism overload. Looking for the holy grail product. Looking for ONE product that would give the coil definition I imagined.

But now the "thrill" is slowly dissapating. I am moving toward natural ingredients, less products, simpler routine. Even when I am tempted and buy a new conditioner...I find myself coming back to my old stand by of Suave Coconut conditioner and shea butter for twist.

It is all part of relearning my hair for me. Some say it is a natural part of the "rediscovery" of our hair. The longer you taking care of your hair though...the eventuality that your routine will be simpler and the need to try something new will be less and less.

I believe that.

I for one think that your hair can acclimate itself to a shampoo or conditioner just like your body can acclimate itself to a vitamin or supplement. When it does it does not respond with as much vigor as it did when you first used it. I find products that my hair responds well to and then I rotate them. I always have at least 3or 4 different kinds of moisturizing shampoos, conditioners, reconstructors, and even leave in conditioners. My hair seems to like this.

For me it is also exciting. Looking for the perfect conditioner, shampoo, leave in And using different combos to provide different results.

A month ago I went to Ikea and bought an extra shelving unit to put in my bathroom so I can stock my hair products in a proper manner-

But I swear, I'm not a PJ junkie.

... I just like to buy hair products coz I wanna.
