I mean i wash my hair once a week and condition and i hardly get any breakage. I don't apply anything else to my hair. I see some ladies that have all types of products and i always wonder why?

I do exactly the same thing (wash an go twice a week) and I get ZERO breakage whatsoever. It may depend on hair type but I find the less I do to my hair the more it rewards me with long thick healthy growing hair.

Everyone's hair is different and at different stages. Others may need more moisture, body, shine, protein or oil while you need none of the above. So, that's why so many products are used....also, a lot of ladies here have many products that do the same thing. They're trying to figure out which product works the best for their hair. I don't blame them, with so many products out on the market, you have to choose the ones that work best with your hair. How are you going to know which products is best if you don't try them?

I think it depends on the person and the hair type. Sometime a product may leave your hair soft but doesn't moisturize so then you need a moiturizer. I don't think using a lot of products is necessarly a bad thing as long as you don't allow products to build up on your hair. For me personally I dont have a lot of money so I can't afford to use a lot of products but I think if I did have extra money I probably would have a lot more products just because I like to try different things.

I strive to use a minimum of products, whether it be for hair or skin.

One can overload the hair, I believe.

Me? I keep the process simple: shampoo, deep condition, serum, hood dry, followed by blow dry w/ comb attachment, oil sheen and flat iron.

I try to stick to particular products or products in one hair line, but it gets so tempting to try new things. I think my hair gets bored afterwhile with using the same thing Over and over again.

yeah, i use cream of nature detangling shampoo, rinse, pat dry, add Elasta QP oil moisturizer and blowdry w/comb attachment. Add vaseline to ends and into a bun. (i know the conditioning part is missing (tried it and didnt like conditioning after washing -- can we say a hot mess--i do a once a month deep conditioning with queen helene cholesterol and that works out great) I am honestly just not all that excited at the prospect of trying stuff because my hair is really picky about what i put on it so when i find something that works and my hair is happy--- i'm happy too. So i definitely try to keep experimentation to a minimum -- jainygirl

Some of us have lotsa products that we don't need or use often. I have about a dozen products that did not suit my hair that I'm donating to a shelter (spring cleaning).

My low drama conditioner washes entail using a moisturizing conditioner and a spray on detangler.

LOL!! Exactly! It's all part of the fun of being a GIRL

Speaking for myself, I love to try new things. Plus I like to switch products so my hair doesn't build a tolerance to certain products.

I am somewhat new to alot of this so I have to see what best fits my hair before I can be commited to certain products. I am getting there though. I plan on sticking with CON shampoo and LeKair Cholesterol. I'm up in the air about my leave-in and moisturizer. I am currently using Humectress and ORS Olive Oil. I mean, I really like them, but you never know what else will come along

Less is more to me too, if I conditioned and put nothing or very little on after I don't think that I would suffer any horrible affects, but the products DO make a difference.

Depending on what I use I can have:
Sweter smelling hair
Shinier hair
Softer hair
More defined ringlets
Bouncier hair
Less tangled hair
More moisturized hair
Straighter hair

Hey... I like all those things

I think it also depends on whether a person has relaxed, texturized hair OR if they are natural.

I now use FEWER products on my hair now that I'm natural. I basically wash, condition, apply leave in spritz and hair butter. This leaves my hair moisturized and soft all day and I like that.

Yeah, I dont have many products either. I sometimes wonder how they found out about all these different types of products. Before joining the forum, all I used was shampoo, relaxer, and grease. The only time I used a conditioner was after a relaxer. And thats it...not moisturizers, protein treatments, serums, etc.

You know what? I think you're right. when I was a child, I had a very simple routine - weekly shampoo, hair greased with Dax, hair canerowed or plaited. That was all.

When I transitioned from relaxed to natural, I had a similar routine - shampoo (only every 2 weeks though), condition, canerow or wear extensions for 2 months. My hair grew REALLY fast then. I've been paring it down a LOT, I'm gonna keep it simple... hopefully my hair will grow faster and longer this year

PJism is a definitely a sickness! But not a bad one as far as addictions go. I don't think I will stop trying new products any time soon as long as they are reasonably priced and they don't do any damage I can't see how it could hurt.

If something sounds silly like those people on the streets of brooklyn trying to sell some miracle cure or hair loss yet they look tore up. or redundant as in: Why try Neutrogena's Serum when John Frieda's is working fine? But if some new wonderful things comes out I'm like a kid in a candy store!
