Why must I be "style challenged"???!!! (vent)

Ya'll I really need to learn how to do something different with my hair. I keep on saying on going to but then I look at my hair I'm like..."what the heck I'm I going to do with it???"

I'm tired of my bun. I am not going to dare press it again the rest of this summer cuz it is TOO FRIGGIN HOT! I want to try a twist out but I felt like I've never been able to get those quite right.

It seems like some people are just "gifted" at styling their hair. I am so jealous of ya'll. Mine just looks the same all the time and I am always wanting change but not knowing what style would look good on me and DEFINITELY not knowing how to accomplish it.

Anyone else feel this way?? :ohwell:

"My name is Janelle and...*sob, sniff* I'm a member of the style challenged club!"

I do nothing but buns now that the new-growth has come in and as I'm avoiding heat, I can't wear it down (plus I'm in a HYH challenge). Also not having it be the length I want it to be (the sides are a lot shorter and kind of hinder a lot, too) it's hard to find a "style" on my own. :[ Even other people in the HYH challenges find such cute styles besides bunning and even their BUNS are cute! :[ I just can't do it on my own.

Girl, we're in the same boat sinking fast. :perplexed

I've realized that I need to start bunning but it's SO boring. Grrrr.
I'm just not creative that way.

your hair would probably look really good if you did some flat twists in the front and flexirod spirals in the back..........

you could make some cool designs in the parts and hold them together at the base with a pretty barrett or clip.

just an idea.......:yep:

ooooooh girl........twists are nothing more than 2 pieces of hair twisted together - practice that first.

flat twists are the same 2 pieces of hair but instead of just twisting them together, you twist them close to your scalp.....pick up a small piece of hair as you travel down the length of your part.

i swear to you, they are easy to do and once you get the proper tension and can make a straight part (pointy end of a rattail comb) - you're set.

warning: my dominate hand is my left hand so if you're right handed just change accordingly.

try this, make 2 parts, now there's your row - you'll want the hair to be rather thick so you can practice good, about an inch (or little more) between the parts is good - once you get the technique down you can begin making the parts smaller.

separate 2 pieces of hair at the beginning of your row take your thumb and index and middle fingers of the left hand (your thumb is where the hair will rest), you'll be able to separate the hair you're twisting from the rest by using your middle finger.

take one section of hair of one hand and bring it over to the right side.

your middle finger will now pull the hair under the base of the twist. now grab the hair that was in your left hand with your right hand and use your middle and index fingers of your left hand to grab the hair that was in the right hand pulling it under the piece of hair you just twisted. you'll need to adjust your grip now to the thumb and index and middle fingers, grab the hair that was on the right side over to the left.

what your doing is basically is over the twist then under the twist with each piece of hair.

now as you're twisting, grab a piece of hair from underneath and incorporate it into the left hand side's piece of hair and bring it over to the right side, keeping them all together, now do the same thing with the hair on the right side - picking up a small pieces of hair as you travel down the row.

the amount of tension you use to pull the hair is what gives the flat twist it's uniform size. if you can just get the technique down pat, you can worry about the uniformness later.

i prolly confused the daylights out of you but it's the best i can do.......hopefully while you're trying it, you'll get a better picture of what i'm trying to explain.

you CAN do this, you just gotta plug away at it.

woo hoo! I'm so happy I found this thread! I intend to practice twists till I can twist in my sleep!:D

GIRL YES!!!!! I actually tried a braid out, worked out that morning and had to take it down while still slightly damp! Girl, I caught my boss staring at my hair absolutely transfixed!!! It was like a big weighted down gone limp afro!! NOT CUTE!!! Back into the bun I went. I so wish I was creative enough to continue my hair goals and still look cute while doing it!!!:wallbash::wallbash:

:lachen:Sorry, but I have stared at ppls hair "transfixed" so I can almost picture the look. Also I have made the mistake of taking down a slightly damp braidout. I rock braidouts all the time now and they look good but if I ever take it down before it is COMPLETELY dry, I just mentally prepare myself for that tranfixed look. Sometimes I say fug it, I'm rockin' my Leela James even though I'm relaxed and only 4 weeks post. Whatever works!
