Why is there blood on my pillowcase?

I asked myself this morning as I made up my bed while rushing to work. So on Tuesday I went to my hairdresser of three years and got a relaxer with Dudley's Mild and a rinse with Sebastians Mahogany (thanks Tracy!). The crown of my head felt real hot afterwards on tuesday, so hot in fat I put some frozen flying fish in a plastic bag and held in on my head for an hour. So I get to work and I have to take an ice pack and do the same thing because it felt hot again. Luckily it was laser day and everyone had an ice pack somewhere so I fit in

. When I get home upon closer inspection I see the same dark red stain on my head scarf and conclude that it is indeed blood. My poor scalp that has never even tingled once in all these 18 years of relaxers cannot hang any more. So this is it! It is over for me and I am now officially a transitioner. I have NEVER had any problems with relaxers before but I am not looking for this to become a trend. Any suggestions on how I can heal my scalp? TIA

Sorry to hear this has happened to your scalp! I don't think I've ever experienced bleeding from relaxers! Sounds like you have a very severe burn. The first things that came to mind to heal your scalp are:

Rosemary Oil
Lavender Oil
Tea Tree Oil

These are all antiseptic, very healing and the rosemary and lavender oils will promote hair growth also. You may also consider seeing a doctor.

I am so sorry that this happened to you! Definitely see a doctor asap because it could be the relaxers or even something else. Keep us posted.

That sounds terrible! You should definitely check with a doctor. Sorry to hear about that....Aloe gel might also help with the healing.

sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. Is it possible the stain was from the rinse you had?? Did you ask someone to look at? Maybe an allergic reaction?

My boyfriend thinks it is blood too but with the coloring of the dye I there is a possibiity that it could be the dye and me sweating in my sleep.

Hmmm.. That could be it... Do you see red residue on the back of your neck?

I never heard of someones scalp bleeding. If you feel that is the case definately go to a doctor.

As I read your first post I thought this. It could definitely be the color in your hair. Sometimes when you get a relaxer and you've been scratching your scalp after the relaxer you'll have scabs in your head so that could be a contributing factor too.

You could actually have someone check your scalp to see if anything is amiss... Also, what did the derm say?

I think it's the Mahogany rinse that you used. When I did my Sebastians Glorious Gold last summer, my whole scalp turned gold!! I'm willing to bet that it's the rinse rubbing off.

It would be REALLY strange if your scalp was actually BLEEDING from the relaxer!! I mean, a few scabs and a little bit of dried blood, maybe, but full on bleeding???!!!

I am at work now but the derm isn't here yet.

The only reason I think it is blood is because of the burning sensation I felt which I had never felt before. And the distibution of the stain. It wasn't a smear it really looked like drops splattering.

?, was your scalp in pain B4 you went to bed, when u woke up and now? if not, it probably is just the dye, don't fret

I think is it the color. Where you burning while waiting for the relaxer to process? If so, did your stylist rinse it out right away?

I think it's the color too. There have been times when I've had stains on my pillow after a rinse too. There's a possibility that it's blood but I think it's the rinse. Keep us posted!

to treat your scalp, use aloe vera juice from the health food store. not the synthetically processed gel but the juice or gel straight from the plant that comes in a dark glass bottle. you can get it at the health food store. pour it all over your hair and scalp and let it sit. i would let it stay in as a hair treatment (and add some evoo or vitamin e ointment for moisture) and wouldn't rinse it out because it's totally natural, but you may wish to. sorry this happened! wishing you the best! keep us posted!

edited to say: if you are rocking a bun, this treatment is perfect! matter of fact, i think i'm gonna start working this plan and see how far i get!

I agree!

CH- yes my head was burning at night and early in the morning.
Nissi- Thanks for the treatment, I'm gonna get some today from the vitamin shop and yes I wear buns so it will work fine.
Brickhouse- She just got in, I am gonna show her.

Thanks

Queen- yes I was burning and she rinsed it out. She thinks like the people on the board in that she thinks the crown is the most resistant. The thing with me is that my crown is very straight (like 2b) and so I would even prefer if no relaxer gets on it period. Now I am gonna insist on it.
Thanks.

I agree with this.
I've heard of oozing but never bleeding, but hey anything is possible. Maybe it was a mixture of your hair color and your scalp oozing from the relaxer burn.

I've been through this sort of thing before and don't worry things will get better. Just be very gentle with your scalp and hair until it heals.

Aloe gel was a life saver for my burning scalp.

My husband has a condition...pustuals, scabs and bleeding. We take a dark pillow case with us on trips so that he does not mess up the hotels pillows or the home of the friends or family that we are visiting. He scratches his head at night and that causes bleeding.

He has been using a tea trea shampoo followed by Surge and then followed by a hair oil that has jojoba, aloe, rosemary and other oils...it has helped his scalp tremendously.

The back of his head stays inflamed alot because that is the side he sleeps on...but the rest of his scalp stays inflamation free.

Definitely check with the doctor. Maybe you are allergic to something in the dye. I definitely agree you should stay away from the chemicals. Your body is giving you a signal.

Im sorry this happened CBG. I vote for aloe straight from the plant if it is indeed bleeding. Pure aloe soothes and heals very fast. Hopefully, it's the rinse. Let us know....

Whoa...

Bleeding? Yikes...

I think it's actually the color coming off on your scarf...have you ever used Seb b4? Could u be allergic and that be accounting for the burning sensation?

I have had this too. Last year I actualy had surgery to remove them b/c the postules were so deep and my scalp was throbbing. Mine were caused by an Staphylococcus bacterial infection in my scalp. Every now and then it comes back but I usually take an antibiotic (CIPRO) and they dry up and I have bloody scabs. My doctor advised me to wash my hair more often and not use oily products.

I've used Sebastians before in Cocoa Been which was quite black on me. I saw the derm and she thinks it is the dye, I do have relaxer scabs but they weren't bloody in any way. She says that although they already tell people to not relax and dye that she personally feels adding rinses with relaxing may be too much for some people's scalp and lead to irritation. It also didn't help that I was scratching up a storm prior to relaxing.
