Why is prayer needed if God already knows what's going on?

This was a question that my SO asked me this morning after I told him it's important for him to start praying for hiself. He usually prays for other people only and he's not in the best situation but, he feels that God can see what is going on, so why will he need to pray if God is seeing it all?

Lately, hes been having dreams about someone hurting him but, he didn't get hurt in his dream until last night and that he was stuck at sea in a storm and was helpless because there was no way for him to leave this bad storm at sea. Does anyone know what these dreams might mean and is there anything he can do to start protecting himself? And prayers or anything or advice that I should give him?

Thanks a lot for your time in advance.

God gives us free will. He wants us to ask him. If he just gave us what we needed without him asking us there would be no need to worship him. We wouldn't be able to prove that it was him that did it. He wants to be our provider and protector.

I'm sure that others will come in and put it more eloquently than I but those are just some of my thoughts.

You worded that quite nicely.:yep:

Very Nicely Kweena....excellent.

May I share this too?

It's also about having and building and maintaining a personal relationship with God.

We all know that an infant needs to eat and have his / her diaper changed, etc. Yet, it's the baby's cry that communicates to us that we are needed. The baby's cry 'connects' and protects our relationship and our bonding. The baby's cry brings an embrace, a cuddle, a caress and the warmth of our hearts to want to give the baby more.

The point is, prayer is communication. It's talking and bonding with our Father in Heaven. It puts our feelings in touch with Him and His feelings with us. It's protecting the relationship that is like no other.

For how else will we better know to love this God of ours unless we talk with Him. That's what makes Him 'alive' to us...having Him to talk to.

And also it is an honor that God would even 'want' to hear our voice or our heart. Yet He waits to hear from us everyday, each moment of each day. He loves us just that much...whereby we call Him, Abba Father... our Father who lives in Heaven and within our hearts. :heart2:

Shimmie touched on one point and I want to touch on another. God uses men to get His will accomplished. Think about all the things that you've read about in the bible. How many of those things were done without the cooperation of man?

After Jesus spent time in prayer He would go out and do the things the Father have shown Him. :yep:

I think everyone said it right. I also wanted to add that I believe God wants us to know that we depend on him. Just like a child depends on a parent and asks for what he/she wants, I believe it is the same with us. We just need to be completely dependent on him and demonstrate that through prayer, if not it is more like saying what will be, will be.

Prayer is to change lives, to give thanks, to ask, and to demonstrate love.

You ladies have some amazing points that I never thought of myself. Your points are something that is going to stay with me forever and share with others who also have this same question (including SO). Thanks a lot for taking your time and explaining this all to me. I truly appreciate it.

One way that he can protect himself is to have the spiritual armour talked about in Ephesians 6:18.

Helmet of Salvation - This is the helmet people who are truly saved have on in the spirit realm. When you have sincerely repented and turned away from sinning, asking God's forgiveness, acknowledging the sacrafice of Jesus Christ and his ressurection for your sake.

Breast Plate of Righteousness - This is the breast plate you have protecting you from the enemy when you have a right standing with God. You are in a right place with God, living and acting by faith in him and his word.

Belt of Truth - Belt of Truth, "In Scriptural usage, truth has three meanings. One is truth in word and deed — the opposite of falsehood. Another is truth in the heart — the opposite of hypocrisy. And the third is truth in God. All three truths are the links in the belt that God asks us to wear. " http://www.holyspiritinteractive.net/columns/aneelaranha/armorofgod/beltoftruth.asp

The Sword which is God's Word: This is the sword that is like a double-edged sword, "For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

In order to have this sword, you must know what God's Word says. His words should be in you, and you in him.

Shield of Faith: "Without faith, it is impossible to please God." Need I quote more?

Shoes of Peace: This peace comes from knowing that we have been redeemed by God for our wrong-doings and have a new chance and start in life, not having what was really due to us by disobeying the one who made us.

Yeah, prayer also also God to be glorified because we are saying, "God, please come into my life and make your power be known by saving my uncle or brother....." We are trusting God to be the awesome loving God he is.

God wants us to ask him to do things on our behalf, that is also why he gives us a choice to serve him or not.

Prayer and the name of Jesus truly do have power. And I know that when I let my personal prayer life start to decrease I always decrease in my prayers for other people. It's hard to pray for other people to have freedom in the Spirit if you yourself feel bound.

About the dream, I don't have the gift for interpreting dreams but, it seems like the dream is showing spiritual things and how the enemy is trying to overcome your husband. And is an attempt make to make him feel isolated from Jesus and feel that Jesus is unable to protect him from the whims of the enemy.

I would recommend that you tell your husband to rebuke the storm and ask God to bring calm (just like He did for the disciples in the Bible--Luke 8: 22-25; Matthew 14: 22-33). I would also recommend that he (and you) pray a hedge of protection around him. This dream may be a warning to him about something the enemy's trying to bring to him in the future. I will pray for him also.

I am not sure what his dream means
but I know that whenever I have a dream about myself or family, it's usually a warning/ protection dream.

I always pray about the dream that what ever bad was about to happen will not come to pass.

Last month, I had this dream that the police were trying to arrest my brother for something he didn't do, but in the dream they would not believe me that he was innocent.

I had the dream right before I woke up that morning. I got up around 9:15. I prayed that God protected my brother and that he protected him from anyone trying to take his freedom away.

Then afterwards I called my brother and told him about my dream. He asked me when did I have the dream I said about a half hour ago. he said Heather the police just left my house, they said they had a warrent for my arrest. I was shocked I have had dreams that have come to pass before but I have never dreamed something as it was happening.

turns out his soon to be ex biz partner, had accused him of writing bad checks. He had gone down to the courts a few days before a straighted everything out, but the police did not get the up dated information, so the policeman was there to serve my brother the warrent and arrest him. Fortunately he had the paperwork showing that he had already taken care of the situation.

PRAYER WORKS!
