Why Is It so Difficult...?

to find a good leave-in?? I wash weekly w/ CON and Deep Condition with ORS Replenishing Pack (Great stuff!!) :woot: My hair is left feeling extra moisturized without a lot of shedding during the wash, but then comes trouble. I lose so much hair afterward in the detangling and styling process! I've tried Motions, but didn't like the crispy feeling it left after drying. I tried MNT, but as soon as I put it in my hair, it felt dry. I'm thinking of trying Infusium. Ladies, I need help! Please give me suggestions!

I only like a creamy leave in. My stylist uses Nexus Humectress as a leave in for my rollersets. My hair always come out so soft when I'm done under the dryer. Also I have heard a lot of good thing about the NTM silk touch leave in cream. I bought some but I haven't tried it yet cause I'm in braids. But when I take them down I'll try it.

I use Salerm 21 and then spray Surge Plus 14 they detangle my hair and leave it soft :)
Infusium 23 leaves my relaxed hair dry and stiff but works well for my daughter's natural hair if I mix it with water in a spray bottle with EVOO,and Abba nourishing leave in conditioner:grin:

I would say try a creamy leave in. I've been using Cantu Shea Butter leave-in which is ok. But its definitely a LOT better than any of the liquid leave-ins I've tried. And that includes Motions and Infusium.

Are you detangling during the wash and condish or waiting until you towel dry? The fact that you're losing hair afterwards might suggest that you may want to try detangling earlier in the process.

I have 4B hair and experienced the same problem -- wash and condish goes great, no problems, until I towel dried and started rollersetting and run into issues detangling and I went thru all kinds of "detangling" products (poos, condishs, leave-ins, etc) to no avail, until I switched the detangling phase to earlier in the process when my hair is fully saturated with condish and I take my time and comb condish thru until fully detangle and then rinse (If deep condishing, apply and put plastic cap/heat for however long and then comb thru just before rinsing OR if in hurry, I just slap on condish, comb thru, rinse and move on). My hair remains detangled and manangeable every time, regardless of what products I use and I've concluded it's not so much the products as it is the method and timing, at least for my hair - it's like butter no matter what I use, which I found kinda interesting. . . hmmmm, it's not what products I use, its the method . . .like the old saying, it's not what you say, its how you say it. . . (if that analogy makes sense!).

Anywho, HTH!

When I used ORS Replen. Pak, I never detangled so easily... and without any leave-ins at all for the first time to see how much slip it gave me. However, before, I used Lacio Lacio and it's great! :yep: I will still continue to use it.

People have also mentioned Biolage's Leave-In Tonic and Paul Mitchell's The Detangler as great detanglers. So you might want to look into those as well. HTH

Infusium & Motions has always made my hair stiff and hard. I love Rusk Smoothers, NTM Silk Leave-in & Giovanni Direct. Maybe try and detangle before you rinse your con out, and use a creamy leave in

I used Infusium waay back in the day and it left my hair dry and stripped. I don't like the ingredients either
I love Creamy Leave ins. I use Rusk Smoother and Lacio Lacio. I also use NTM Silk touch.

I second what Sylver 2 said

I use Surge 14, than either Lacio Lacio, NTM Leave In, Salerm 21, or Rusk Smoother.
Creamy conditioners are the best.

Thank you for all of the help! I think Neroli's suggestion about moving the detangling phase to earlier in my process is the way to go. I have been detangling post towel drying, and that's where the mess is. I just got finished reading the thread about detangling in the shower, so I picked up a few ideas. I'd bought the NTM leave-in, but forgot to use it this wash cycle. Guess I'll give it a try with my next co-wash. Thanks again for the advice, ladies! I'll let you know how it goes.

Co-sign on PM The Detangler. Add a couple of dollops to your deep condition concoction and you'll be slipping and sliding through those strands. :D

And a HUGE co-sign on Giovanni Direct. :notworthy: GOOOOOD stuff!

I've read this before and for some reason this time a light went off. I tried this last week and the difference was amazing.

You need a good leave in that detangles as well. Try Pantene light detangling conditioner or Baby Love detangling conditioners. Both are leave in conditioners and work great. I like to let mine sit in for about 5 minutes or so to soften the new growth and then comb through.

Opal I know what you mean. I had the same problem. I used the ORS pack which my hair loves, but detangling was a nightmare. I now spritz my hair with Infusium mixed with oil and it works really well for me. Its become one of my staples.

I mix my own leave-in.

Paul Mitchell the Conditioner and a drop of Kerastase Oleo-Relax.
If it's humid and hot outside I add a couple of drops of Phtodefrisant anti-frizz relaxing cream.

I also mix my conditioner.

Why settle with only one if (like mine) your cupboards are busting open with all kinds of "miracle" products.
