Why do you think weaves are more acceptable than wigs...

A weave is more acceptable because to wear one you must have some hair, whether its enough to cornrow or enough to blend with the weave, people know you have some. A wig requires no hair whatsoever to wear, so they will first think that the wearer is bald.

Of who? The coworker or Vanessa? No I saw this interviewer on tv from like Access Hollywood or something. He actually asked her about her hair she straight said "this is a Vanessa wig it isnt but it is my hair" in a joking manner Helz she bought is so its herz damnit! She further stated she got it from the folks that make Vanessa wigs.

I personally don't think WEAVES or WIGS are very acceptable compared to extension BRAIDS!

All of it is "fake" hair, but someone could have briads down to their behind and no one blinks.

If that same woman had loose hair (either a weave or wig) the same length- she would get GRIEF about "trying" to be something or someone that she is not.

And don't get me started on fake DREDS that even men are even wearing!

Becaue in real life I have Never seen a realistic looking wig. Ever. I see young people wear them all the time and (bad me, I know, I derserve a whoopin') I always think that people who are wearing them are bald headed or have serious hair issues.

But yeah, I have nothing personal against wigs it's just that they look fake.

Yeah, save a few lace fronts and/or half wigs, wigs usually look extremely fake..esp with the false scalps...lol.

I don’t have a problem with wearing a wig, I have never done a weave because I don’t know how to weave myself and I never really felt the need to pay someone to do it when my hair is now waist length. What I do occasionally want is shorter hair and I don’t have the nerve to cut off my hair because I know I won’t want to wait the years it will take to grow it back so I wear wigs. I like them even if my hair is lopsided LOL I wore a neck length one on the plane and I honestly felt cute, and men were checking me out I think it may or may not have passed for my real hair to women. I have never worn a weave but people think I have on a weave when I press my hair out anyway…erplexed
Men don’t seem to notice the difference and they think the wig is my real hair, I am not sure how women look at me but when my real hair is out they check for tracks so they probably jus assume I always have on some fake hair

Yup! That's me. I have em all. Fake scalps etc. (had to laugh when that was mentioned) Maybe I should be bothered about the "fakeness" (not a real word right?) but I'm just not. I will say though, every once in awhile when I wear my hair out, people in stores are SHOCKED because as you ladies say, maybe they thought I was bald. I have to be honest and say I would feel bad if I was bald underneath and would feel like I "had" to wear it in order to have hair but as a protective style, they are great!

back in the day, the only people that i knew that wore weaves were old women and men. they were matted or crooked with hair hanging out the back and didn't even try to fool anyone.

by the time high school rolled around, the handful of girls who could afford weaves were getting picked on er'day for having them. not accepted at all.

the difference i think now is that more young, pretty, fashion foward women wear weaves, which makes it more of a fashion statement. but you still see old ladies holding steady to their wigs. i just think wigs haven't caught up in popularity yet. and they aren't always customized as weaves are/can be (unless you buy a lacefront, which, to me, still looks unnatural). i think wearing wigs is being treated as covering something up/hiding something bad as opposed to just wearing the latest style. i had never seen a young lady in a wig (for style purposes) until i moved to philly. i was shocked (mouth open and everything) and this was only about 4 years ago.

All a weave is is just a wig that hasn't been sewn onto a cap, so I don't know what the big deal is. Maybe b/c when you think "wig" you think of your grandma with that big poofy silvery 'do .
Some people have a problem with the term "weave" too, and instead call them extensions. It's all semantics.

i think some wigs look really bad but the lacefront looks more natural. i never knew one was more acceptable than the other. i would say braids are more acceptable than wigs/weaves

think i because weaves stay on your head and in my case i hate that when i dont wear a wig i have to run a round with a rag on my head when ever the bell ring and you have to take time to fix with a weave with me it all ready on my head when i wake up and all i have to do most of the time is run my hand in it or comb and out the door no pins it down worried that it will fall off if i could keep a wig on i would but in my case the weaves works and what so bad is i have 3 wigs when i got them wore them home the next day i am runing for a rag to cover my head so i just gave up on them may be cause my hair is short it do not look good under the wig i going to get a weave in two to 3 weeks and i will take care of it and my own hair under it

The daughter was about 14 and the mother wore this horrid, Norman Rockwell wig, she was about 6o, really badlly wrinkled up and had these horrid smack dead in the middle rouge cheeks. Every week, without fail she wore that monster on her head. Like the kinds they used to put on those old fashioned dolls!!!! And to make it even worse, she wore this mad flowered dresses with the lace collars. Her poor daughter was I am positive FORCED, to dress just like the mother, and to top it off, wear an IDENTICAL WIG. The only time the girl did not have her wig on is when she wore one of those severe buns. You could tell that the girl had some pretty reddish colored long hair (Pentecostals) but I am thinking mom was totally grey or bald. The wigs were reddish brown and ratty vintage Norman Rockwell!!! It was the most pitiful sight. Also the little old ladies that used to bring their smelly old wigs to the hair salons and the newest stylists had to do the wigs!!!! So probably there is a different thought reference based on individual experiences. I always associated them with wet old smelly wigs drying on a fibreboard wig head stand with long pins stuck through them to hold them while they were STYLED by request into either rigid waves or horrid curls and sprayed to a highly polished finish with cheap smelly hair spray, then pinned on to the women's heads while they ogled themselves from side to side, pursing their lips and trying to twist one more curl into place.....a scene right out of "(Whatever Happened To Baby Jane...starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford)"....but that is just my experience.....bonjour

Well IMO wigs look BAD, terrible even..looking like something just floating on your head. The obvious exception to the rule is the lacefront wig, however even that have to be the RIGHT ONE, and i don't really favor them to tough. However if you got a great weave artist it can look so good and real.

Also. I think the signs you used to see by rollercoasters telling people to keep hold of their wigs might have something to so with my perception of them.

I still have a distint visual in my mind from a rollercoaster in blackpool...

For me, weaves are not more acceptable than wigs. I would wear a wig before I would wear a weave. If I wore a weave, it would be like I'm trying to pass it off as my own hair. I would feel very uncomfortable with that. Whereas with a wig, it is obvious it is not mine.
