Hair Power!
I have a lye relaxer in my hair. I prefer lye because my hair never has the dry feeling. I notice it I wash my hair and don't you any products afterward it still never feel dry. When I used no lye my hair was much drier. I definitely prefer lye relaxers.

i only use lye, because ive only used the same relaxer my whole life. except once, i tried a no-lye way back, and it didnt even relax my hair

i used no-lye for most of the time that i've been relaxing my hair. i only switched to lye in 2002. because i relax so infrequently, i honestly don't notice a difference between then and now except that my hair is getting lighter and lighter. that might be the reason why.

anyway, i like the Affirm relaxer system because of the conditioners that you use during the process. it's really a great brand for me.

I use the Affirm too. ITA I love the conditioners too.

I prefer Lye because my never never seemed to be "relaxed" when using No-lye, all it did was make my hair a little flatter. Design Essentials is my stuff!

Design Essentials is an excellent relaxer. The best I've ever used. SO moisturizing.

Now I use motions because my stylist doesn't have DE.

But it's still good.

I'll never go back to no-lye relaxers. I made the mistake of switching to a no lye a couple years ago and it broke off my hair something awful. My tresses couldn't take that calcium build up.

Affirm Lye!!! ...I switched back in April... my hair did a total 360 when it comes to improvement in manageability, shine, moisture ... makes my hair look and feel wonderful!

even though I just switched from no lye to lye I can tell the difference, my end feel so brittle and dry whereas my roots are more moisturized, I think that ia why I am goin stick with Lye. Affirm Baby, lol

Lye Lye Lye!!!! dudleys Lye relaxer in reg or mild is great.. soft shiny moisturized hair....no dryness or brittleness.

I love Affirm Lye relaxer. I am a little shocked that the majority of the response are for lye relaxers. I was under the impression that most of the ladies on this board were using no lye relaxers.

Last week my stylist used Designer Touch Lye relaxer in my hair instead of the usual Affirm Mild No Lye, by mistake

but I have to say that so far I'm liking the results a lot. As long as my hair continues to do well, I think I'm going to stick with the lye, except that I might ask for Affirm Lye or Mizani.

ITA, I will be sticking with lye relaxers too. My hair feel much softer and more moisturized. My hair felt much drier when I used no lye relaxer and I realized that could not be good for my hair.

I prefer lye.

The no lye dries my hair out. My old ends have been processed with no lye and they feel dry as a bone since taking out my braids.

I prefer Lye because it's less harsh on my hair. It doesn't fully relax my hair, only texturizing it, but the no-lye relaxers dried my hair to a crisp and it would never grow.
Maybe if i knew then what I know now, I'd be able to get my hair to grow, but I notice that my hair has more elasticity now than ever before.

I prefer no lye. Putting a lye relaxer on my hair is like putting conditioner on it....my hair is the same after as before.

Really? I wonder why that is. How long do you leave it on?

DITTO!! My hair use to be jet black and now its getting dark brown.
I use no lye. I use to use lye back in the day, the only reason I switched was because my scalp would start burning right away. I also don't see a difference when I use lye or no lye.
I've use box Relaxers all my life. I alternate between Creme of Nature and Optimum.

Until I came to this board I didn't even think about this, apart from the fact that I didn't understand the difference. Now the impression that I am getting is No Lye = No good!

My hairdresser uses arteffex relaxer on me I have no idea if that is lye or no lye, I am def going to ask her before my next appointment..........

Up until Firday I was using lye and loving it. My hair dresser pulled the bait and switch on me and used a no lye box perm instead of my usual Motions WITHOUT my consent.

When I used no lye my hair was extremely dry and brittle. It took me years to figure out it was the no lye relaxers that was causing this.

I prefer Lye and used it for years until I figured out that lyes were too harsh on my scalp and was wreaking havoc on my hairline. I switched back to no lye "Phytorelaxer" and my hair line is slowly coming back. I do admit my hair is dryer than before but its nothing a little extra moisturizing can't handle and I'd rather sacrifce my hair than my scalp.

Definitely LYE. My mother put a kit in my hair after years of pressing, and it broke off something serious. Thank God I didn't lose all my hair, it just became a lot shorter. Since then...lye only. I use Optimum Multimineral Mild Lye Relaxer at home, along with the attending normalizer and neutralizing shampoo...I've used Textures and Tones, Elasta QP, Affirm, Mizani, Revlon, Creme of Nature-you name it. With the Optimum Multimineral System my hair never felt as good after a touch-up as it does now...it feels silky and moist, even after its dry. To combat dry scalp, which I have with or without a relaxer, I have to oil it. I'm almost afraid to try Phyto (since its no lye), but at the same time I'm curious. I think I'll stay with Optimum...curiosity killed the cat

I used no lye for years and years (since I was little). I switched in December 2004 to lye and I've never looked back. My hair silkier, straighter, and I have less dandruff.

I use Hawaian Silky No-Base Conditioning Lye Relaxer (pink label). :hula: :woot:

I've been using a lye relaxer, but thinking of switching back to no-lye. The no-lye seemed to be a lot easier on my scalp.

I've never used lye relaxers on my hair because I was told that they are too harsh on your hair & scalp. I've used no-lye all my life (literally) and I'm afraid to make a switch because of what might happen to my hair.

I have a question though. For those who texturize, which type of relaxer is best, lye or no-lye?
