or not to use heat for styling. I wanted to know, for those who have somewhat banned heat- why- did you not retain growth, etc, and for those who have successfully used heat in moderation- what was your regimen?

It seems like the heat factor is major, so I thought I would get some information before I decide to definitely stick with a once a week heat regimen.

Thanks!!

i stopped heat because it causes split ends. which equals hair cut. my hair's been doing much better now.

I've decided to go back to roller setting b/c I got highlights last summer and my hair has not been doing well with the flat ironing. I also got tired of the same flat wrap during the week. With rollersetting I have more body. I loathe sitting under the dryer, but my hair will be in better condition. But otherwise, I never had a problem with blowdrying and flat ironing.

i stopped b/c i'm lazy, i like how my hair feels when it's been airdried, and b/c i think no heat is healthier for my hair.

I cut out heat (as in I would go like 3 or more months without ever using heat) because I didn't want to damage my hair. Now I use heat moderately (once a month) just to either wear it straight or to wear crimps.. once a month really isn't bad at all, and doing so hasn't caused any damage to my hair so I'm good with this. I can tell you for sure that since cutting out all that excessive heat, my hair is the healthiest I ever remember it being while I've been relaxed.

I stopped using heat because all it did for my hair is cause it to break. Heat would dry my hair out so bad that split-ends were always prominent. I've been heat-free now for 10 months now and everyday my hait thanks me.:)

same here! My hair has so much moisture to it now since I stopped the heat. so for me no heat and no h.i.h.d (hand in hair diease )= more lenght !

I was only heat-styling once a week, but it seemed my hair was growing so slowly, if at all. As an experiment, I tried going without heat, and my hair growth took off. I think I must have been weakening and breaking the growing ends. I don't see little broken pieces any more, although I seem to shed a moderate amount. My hair is growing though, so it doesn't worry me.
The only heat it gets now is after washing and conditioning under the dryer for 30 minutes, wrapped and covered with paper hair strips. I air dry it the rest of the way overnight. Comes out smooth, moisturized and healthy-looking.

During my relaxed days, I stopped daily use of "direct" heat (flat, curling irons) 2.5 yrs ago. Why, cuz I was starting a "healthy" regime & wanted to cut out all things damaging. Instead, I began rollersetting & airdrying... my relaxed hair began to hold more moisture, my ends were nice & healthy which meant I didn't have to trim as often. The end result was I was able to retain all of my length :bouncy:

Now that I'm natural, I still do not use any form of heat (been airdrying over 2 yrs).... however, I'm thinking that I may rollerset or do a blow out when I need to trim.

I stopped using heat because my hairline started to thin and I felt that the best course of action was to limit heat and relaxer applications. This was last year around this time and my hair looks a lot better. Also I wear my hair is styles that do not require heat.
