Why do hairdressers...?

Why do hairdressers scratch your scalp when washing, particularly during touch-ups (And on a similar note, do hairdressers seem to have the longest nails or is that just the way it feels?)? All the ones I've went to have done it to some extent so I figure there must be some logic behind it. I hate it. I got a touch-up on Friday and the girl scatched at my head so roughly it was like she was trying to draw blood. Seriously, she scratched so hard that the back of my scalp was still tender today

. I understand massaging the scalp to stimulate it but why must they claw at your scalp?

I don't know why they do that but it drives me nuts, too!! You're supposed to use fingertips and massage...not scratch with nails! Maybe telling them that you have a tender scalp would keep them from doing this.

Lazy. Their hands get tired. Try it on yourself and see. Its easier to use your nails and scratch then your fingertips to massage. Lazy, pure and simple. And you know what......If you never say anything to them about it they will continue to take a layer of your scalp off!
