Who's still in the Christmas Stretch Club?

I had to take graduation pictures, so my last touch-up was 10/21. I'm going to try to stretch until the beginning of January. That will put me at about 11/12 weeks post. Longest I have stretched is 9 weeks and that was this last time, so pray for me, especially on my birthday (Dec 27th). :)

I'm still in, hanging on by a thread. How do you ladies do it? I have the worst tangles, what can i do?

Yea!! This is something I can finally declare and get in on.

If I make it that will be in the area of 19/20 wks.

My last relaxer was on Aug. 12, so I'm 11 wks. out, I was going to relax on Nov. 1 because I'm going over to Europe on vacation. But I think I'm gonna just keep on doing what I'm doing now and remain relaxer-free, thermal appliance-free/blowdry-free which I've been since June/July (with the exception of a few spurts on one of my rollers when hair isn't completely dry).

Hey Divine I'm still in! But it is hard and yes I was very tempted to throw in the towell especially when the no heat styles I was trying didn't work. How is everyone dealing with the new growth? I haven't had a relaxer since August so my new growth has definately become a force to be reckoned with!
I'm so glad I threw away my flat iron!

Mine definately tangles bad! I was afraid I was going to lose hair because of the tanlges but I think I finally found a style I can work with.

And I don't think I could survive without Alberto VO5 soothe and smoothe shampoo and conditioner!

Hang in there you guys! only 2 more months!

Hey, I am still here. I am mostly kinda bunning for now. I did a bantu knot set this week cause I had to perfprm. It came out nice Otherwise, I am using a comn mostly once a week when I wash.

I recently started using Suave Moisturizing Conditioner as my leave in/moisturizeer and it is working quite well. It leaves my hair mooth and it stays moist without being greasy. I use a few drops of WGO with the conditoner on my ends about 3 times a week.

I think I shall be going into braids for the next couple of months to keep me from relaxing.

Count me in. I'm at week 10. My last relaxer was 8/19. Right now I'm wearing an Instant Weave. I bought it for my college senior portraits bc I had taken my weave out and couldn't get in contact with my braider/weaver. To be quite honest, I'm getting tired of all this long hair. I finally found someone who can cornrow for a reasonable price (lol im a broke college student) so hopefully it'll be braided up by the end of next week. I plan on keeping it braided until Christmas though. Wow 8 more weeks. Wish me luck... :look:

hmm i was too scared to join at first but count me in, i plan to relax in mind january **fingers crossed**.I need to start practicing stretching longer because when i start college i know i'm gonna be too broke to touch up every 8-10 weeks :ohwell:

:woot: :yay: Christmas Stretch Club is growin!!! Yaaaay!

Uofm~~you can make it girl...you'll have lots to be proud of when your birthday rolls around...

YummyC~~I know exactly what you mean! I had some MEGA tangle issues about a month ago and Paul Mitchell's The Detangler TOTALLY changed the game for me! I mean, my whole stretch is so much easier b/c the tangles were really stressing me out. Try it...you won't regret it! You might also wanna poo your hair in braids...I hear this works well too.

MissCapricornCutie~~Kudos for not using heat! I threw my heat out w/ the exception of my hood dryer. My hair has really thanked me for it too. Go head girl...you doin big things!

Taij!~~Hey girl! I was checkin for you! I've been dealin with my new growth by doin CO washes. It's really well conditioned and now my line of demarcation isn't giving me any trouble. Might work for you too...

Growingitlong~~Bunning is such a wonderful thing! This week was my first week drying my hair in a bun and it was GREAT! You're a smart lady!

Bmoreflyy~~Good luck with the braids girl! I hear everybody say that it gets them through their stretches...I just wish I could do it. :ohwell:

bronzehair~~Practice makes perfect girl...eventually you'll get used to stretching and who knows? You may actually start to like it... :look: I know I do.

I know I'm late, but count me in. My last relaxer was Sept. 28, but it looks like my personal no heat challenge will be over on Oct. 31 -- so that will give me more options to s-t-r-e-t-c-c-c-c-h-h-h-h this new growth. I have this overwhelming urge to get a Dominican blow out SO BAD!!!!

Still haven't decided if I'll ever get another relaxer again, though. Only time, with mango butter and Co-Washes, will tell.;)

I'm hanging on for dear life, but I'm still in. My last relaxer was in September and I'm doing well. I'm doing the baggie method. If everything goes well, I may try to stretch my relaxer until April 2006.

:wallbash: I am STILL Christmas stretching. I'm in WEEK 12 and I am TIRED! :censored: I want my flowing hair back! I feel like a RAGG-A-MUFFIN. My regimen consists now more of painstaking efforts to keep my BLACK POWER NEW GROWTH softened with oils, MTG, conditioners and my crispy, thirsty ends saturated in EVOO, AMLA and plastic baggies. I want to look CUTE AGAIN and I am tired of BUNS! :cry3: Any other Christmas Stretchers out there struggling too??

Still here. Just went into braids. I did them myself and it is just about two weeks now. I expect to take them down the week before Christmas to do a deep condtitioning treatment and then put them back in for another six to eight weeks. Actually, I shall be doing a weave this time for the season. I plan to get my touch up at the end of February early March.

YES! The road is getting long, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. My relax date is December 2 which is 3 weeks from today, and I can't wait. I'll be 21 or 22 weeks at that point.

Divine! I actually plan to relax the same day as you do, or on the 3rd. I had planned to do it on the 17th, but I dont know, i'm trying to minimize the amount of hair that I usually lose at touch-ups b/c my hair gets so unmanageable that it's hard to part it etc. Plus, I dont want to use heat for the events that i'm going to the week before my intended touch-up date. I want to get a professional stylist to do my relaxer this time, so that I dont end up with underprocessed parts and overprocessed parts like last time. My hair didnt look so good. I can't wait to relax! I want to wear a high fluffly ponytail SO BAD! :(

ooh and dont forget, i'll be getting my sebastians colourshine for Christmas!

:dance7: I thought you were planning to relax like this week or something...
This is great, we can compare notes on how our relaxers turn out...which brand are you planning to relax with? I think I'm gonna use Mizani Mild...or Affirm w/ lye...we shall see.
I still have to find a stylist :ohwell:
But I'm gonna so Coloushines too...BLACK or BROWN?!?!?! The world may never know  I am *really* struggling with this...

I dont know which relaxer I will use yet. i haven't decided which stylist either. There's this place where they only do it for like $40, and they use good relaxers. I was thinking either Motions lye relaxer, or Affirm lye, which i've never used before. My sister got her relaxer (affirm) done there a few months ago, and it came out very nice. They don't blowdry hair over there either. I wonder if they would apply the Colourshines for me too?

The other salon I was thinking about is this Dominican salon that I usually go to for my blowouts. They use professional products. I haven't been there since July until yesterday when I saw the Nexxus products at such good prices. It'll probably be more expensive to do it there, plus the colourshine, etc. When I stopped by there yesterday, the lady told me it would be $70 to get my hair washed, rollersetted, blowdried, put the color in, TRIM, and possibly cut bangs. When she said TRIM, I just thought "UH-OH" i'd rather do my trims at home, thank you very much. But I didnt say that. So anyway, to get a relaxer there would probably be even more expensive. I'll pick the first salon, but I also want to rollerset my hair a few days before so that it's easier to part my hair during the relaxer.

I have to take one day at a Time ......its rough.....its dry.....its fragile

I have been washing every 2 weeks because I just can;t handle the "truth"(naps)

Are most Christmas Stretchers using heat occassionally to manage the roots? (blow dry/flat iron) My rollersets look like a joke because I currently have 2 inches ng in the front, 3 in my crown and 2.5 in the back. I tried flat ironing my roots but it looked stupid. I don't know what I am doing. :ohwell:

Hi Divine. 21 weeks is highly commendable. Congrats girl! What have you been doing to manage your roots and for styling options all this time? How have you kept it together?

Thank you girl!! The first few weeks after my relaxer I was doing roller sets. Once the new growth started to be too much (around week 6 or 7), I started doing wash & goes. Then I moved into braided buns for a few weeks, and the past few weeks, I've done my version of a braidout/wavy style.

I said from the beginning of this mega stretch that I was not even gonna attempt to fight all these coils by straightening it. I've been lettin my hair do its thug thizzle, and I have not applied direct heat since my relaxer back in July.

CO washing has probably been the best tool for keeping my NG manageable. It's soft and supple and my coils have springy-ness (I just made a new word  ). WGO has done a great job of keeping my new growth from drying out and acting a donkey. Plus, I've been staying up on my EFAs so I think that's helped too b/c my NG has this natural sheen that it doesn's usually have and I suspect that water, EFAs, weekly servings of fish, and WGO are responsible for that. I've been deep conditioning religously and CO washing consistently so I think a combination of those things is why I've been able to go the distance.

I had a REALLY tough time with tangles for about 2 weeks around week 13 or 14, but I started putting 2 or 3 dollops of Paul Mitchell's The Detangler into my conditioner concoction and my hair has been detangling like a dream ever since. :look:

You may have to give in and do textured styles until the week before your relaxer. I always like to do a roller set the week before the relaxer so that the stylist isn't rippin through the two different textures trying to get to the NG. This week I'll probably do a braided bun, but I'm going out of town on Friday and I plan to clarify and do a protein treatment on Wednesday and wave it on up...I'ma be walking around lookin like an island pricess at Thanksgiving!

Divine I'm ready to quit!!!!! HElp!!!!

ARe we going until Christmas day, Dec. 1st or DEc 31st? Honestly at this point I want to say Dec 1st but I think my ticker says otherwise. I had a dream that I relaxed and straightened my hair.....I don't know how much longer I can go......

Some ladies are relaxing as early as the 1st and others are goin til New Years. It really should be called the Holiday Stretch
My relax date is December 3 and has been since I started the stretch. I'm leaving town on the 15, and I don't like to go out of town with a super fresh relaxer. I'll relax on the 3rd, then the following week, I'll CO wash and do a good moisturizing deep condition, and if need be, I'll do lite protein the following week before I skip town.

Girl the fact that you are DREAMING about a relaxer had me crackin up
You've only got about 2 weeks left...hang in there...are you having specific problems or are you just tired of lookin like Buckwheat?

Still in!
Now 10 weeks post, shooting for like 13, either relaxing by Dec 10 in time for sister's grad or mor than likely Dec 16!
I am proud of my new growth, MTG laced, biotin filled hair :)

Okay, I'm going to see if I can get my hair done soon b/c I am experiencing some serious breakage now. I can't take it anymore!

I'm still on... in fact, I may stay on. I'm tired of worrying about my hair breaking unnecessarily because it has been "weakened" by relaxers.

And considering I have new growth at 4 weeks and I stretch until 8 weeks (at least), I'm wondering why I continue to waste my time and money when in the meantime and in between time, I need a freakin' touch up ANYWAY!

I believe I can achieve the same results with my $90 ceramic flat iron. Silky, smooth hair. Sure, I may have to do the roots every two days, but at least my hair won't be weak and more susceptible to breakage.

I might relax next weekend Dec3 when I'm 11 post because i'm having some breakage, and have tremendous growth for 11 weeks using MTG

DI I'm still in. I cant believe it though. The new growth is getting kind crazy, but I must press on. The hard part is over. If I've made it this far, I think I can stretch till April!!!!

Go 'head girl!!! That's what I'm talkin about! I feel the same way...right now I'm about 20 weeks post, but I ain't even hurtin for a relaxer...detangling has become more challenging and time consuming, but it's definitely not unbearable.

I'm having a hard time finding a stylist AND I'm falling in love with my coils and springs...

I'm seriously considering transitioning at this point.

We shall see.
