Who would never change their staples or routines?..

For me, i'm a extreme NON PJ.

I see 100's of recommendations and have no urge to buy. i just dont see why one would need an array of shampoos cons etc....help me out here.

i mean for 1. what if you use a certain product and it screws up your hair, jus cus somebody really liked it? I've seen it happen on the board many times, esp with protein products....

All the time i was a type of PJ, my hair never had a CHANCE, it would grow a little and break a little, but i kept TRUDDING ALONG" thinking that its a good thing to "ROTATE" products and have a selection... WRONG. until i selected a regime, threw away the random stuff, was when i finally saw some gooood results!!!

this isn't to diss nobody, just a warning to not always be so hasty to buy something jus cos somebody with longer, nicer or thicker hair then yourself uses it...u might regret it in the long run! (plus it'll save u money!)

Who else has stuck to the same stuff for ages?
What benefits have u recieved from doing this?

(oh and mentioning the products is upto you..but i dont wanna incite any PJ-ism now lol)

I would class myself as a non-PJ as I have never been one to use alot of products. I changed my products several months ago as I now use all natural products and luckily I have mostly struck gold with my first choices and see no need for major changes.

Former PJ checking in.

I was thinking on this very subject a few days ago. Now that I'm happy with my hair's condition, reading the reviews and running to buy EVERYTHING that's mentioned just doesn't grab me like it used to.

My hair has paid the price over the years for my trial and error. Only after I calmed down into a routine did my hair start to flourish.

Great thread candy c,
I plan to use up all my PJ stuff, a lot of which doesn't work well and stick to, a few products, i'm remembering when i was natural i didn't use too much product on my hai and it grew very long. Now since i texturized, and jumped on a lot of product bandwagon, i ended up with more damaged ends, Nexxus, Affirm, Keracare, Jasons really screwed up my hair these were either protein based or silicones. This is what intially lead me to making my own natural products, and my hair is a lot healthier now than when i was texturized and using all that stuff.

Yeah, my hair acts crazy with proteins, i need moistursing ones that don't contain cones too, its very hard finding ones that work. So far AO Honeysuckle rose con with oils works very well as a pre=poo followed by a light shampoo with CON in the green label, no deep conditioner. I also like henne color as a protein treatment, my hair like it maybe because its a natural herbal form

hey candy! there was a thread similar to this one just the other day called Consistency versus Trying New Things :yep: There are some good replies in there too!

To answer your question though, I remain true to my basic regimen philosophy, but I don't mind incorporating new products from time to time that fit into the mold I've set. Especially conditioners and oils. Love 'em! I'd hate to be stuck to one shampoo or conditioner then it be discontinued or reformulated or something! You never know! Gotta be prepared these days.

nice thread Candy ;)

I am a recovering PJ

I mean, what's the point in having tubs and jars of things at home unopened and then buying more?!

and your money is slowly draining away...:look:

it WAS for me a stupid addiction but i guess everyone who is just learning haircare wants all the best things!

these days i keep it simple....i am using what works for me and sticking to the products.

:yep: This is me. I was a die-hard Nexxus user, and then they cheapened the ingredients so I don't use it anymore. Had I not done some research/experimenting with other lines, I would have been frustrated and lost when it came time to find an alternative. I would rather gradually experiment and find backups than to have to spend a ton of money at one time trying to completely revamp my regimen from a line being discontinued.

I'm a conditioner junkie. I'm not big on poos or even reconstructors, but I'll try a good moisturizing con from time to time. Same with oils...at the LHCF meeting in April, I got some amla oil and some perfumed castor oil. I've used both on my hair since then, and I've gotten great results. I probably wouldn't opt to incorporate them into my regimen since EVOO, jojoba and coconut are my staples, but it's still nice to know that if I found some amla on sale or something, I could use it.

But I must say that I agree with the philosophy of sticking to the tried and true. I too have seen many a horror story come from somebody trying something that somebody else raved about, but if you're still trying to perfect a regimen, how are you gonna do that apart from trying stuff?? So I guess if you have a regimen that's working you shouldn't fix what ain't broke, but there's nothing wrong with tweaking a regimen until you get the results you want.

Great thread!

I have a regimen that works perfect for me, so I will not be deviating from it. But for a long time while I was trying to find what worked for me I tried lots of different things. Now that I've done that, I ain't changing!

I basically use the same products on my hair since my first LHCF days, when I finally developed a hair regimen. During that time, I threw out products and appliances which were absolutely not working for my hair and gave away products someone else could benefit from. Fortunately, I stocked up on the original formulas I use and have backups in place, if necessary.

I'm not a PJ although once in a while, I will buy a product that will simplify my regimen even more and be beneficial for my hair. As a result, I spend very little each month and year on my hair.

I dont think I'll ever change my regimen, its been working well thus far.
Every now and then I may buy a new product, if I think it would be beneficial to my hair, other than that my regimen will remain the same for a longgg time. :)

I used to be a PJ, and I just changed my products for all natural no parabens/carcinogens. But basically it's the same regime I just used up the old products (NO PJ-ism challenge) and found natural substitutes for them.

I am a recovering PJ. One of the worse kind because I don't even need a suggestion/recommendation. I'd be off searching in the stores looking at ingredients. I am still trying to secure my staples. Because I am braided up now, I know somethings will be different once I take my braids out. I love Conditioners. I have a few staples, but it's weird recovering because although I've found 2-3 conditioners that I really love, I still feel like I need to have others on reserve:ohwell: . I love, love, love what Elasta QP DRC-11(?) Deep Moisturizing Cond. does for my hair. Also Protein Milk Conditioner by Tropical & Mane N' Tail Conditioner. Sometimes I use Salerms Wheat Germ Mask  Love these! I will try not to vear off from these. I guess I need more conditioner because I don't use poo :look: .

I think I have stayed pretty consistent and have simplified further as some of my staples have multiple uses

Thank you. I am currently using the JASON Sea Kelp Moisturising shampoo - so far so good.
Shampoo: I changed to Aubrey Organics White Camellia in December 2006. Exchange rate changes made this more expensive, plus shipping costs to UK & customs charges so I looked for an alternative. At the beginning of 2009 I started using black soap - I have been using this as a facial and body wash since 2005/6 but for some reason never tried it on my hair before - glad I did as I love it and to think that I had this all along :) I love the fact that I use it from head to toe.

Clarify: I used Bicarbonate of soda with my shampoo to clarify since 2005 but it did not work well enough with the black soap to remove any build up. I have been using Bentonite clay to clarify since June so this is my new staple to clarify. I also use it as a face mask. (I still use bicarbonate of soda to brush my teeth and exfoliate my face.)

Moisturising: Instead of my hair spritz of rosewater, glycerine, EOs & Giovanni direct Leave-in, I just use plain rosewater. I also use rosewater as my facial toner and to make my black soap bodywash/shampoo.

I think my only major change is Aubrey Organics Blue Green Hair Rescue Mask as earlier this year my hair started to break a little and I want to introduce a stronger protein treatment twice a year.

Has anyone else stayed pretty consistent?

i have a ton of products but i know my staples. there are products i wouldnt change for the world.

I would have to say that by and large, I'm pretty consistent. A lot of it has to do with the fact that I really don't think different product lines are all that innovative. I mean, how many derivations of whipped shea butter can someone make? :perplexed Qhemet Biologics has remained a staple for the past four years. I've been using Elucence shampoo and conditioner for the past 3 years. I have tried Shescentit, Oyin (a couple of their products are semi-staples; I'm still figuring out if it really works all that great for me :ohwell:), Aveda Dry Remedy and Komazaa Care but none of those, aside from Oyin, have been repeats. So yes, I would say that I don't really change my staple products.

Oh, I did want to say Rosalin, I've been using Rosewater too, and I love it as a moisturizer. I get mine from Whole Foods. Where do you get yours from?

I did try the all natural thing for a while, and I couldn't keep that up b/c of the prices and my hair does like cones so they didn't work that great for me.

I simplified my regime even more I have tried a good amount of products being a former PJ, and I found the staples that work for me, also I've worked out some alternates in case I can't find my favs but I don't stock up anymore but my basic regime is a cheap good conditioner, coconut oil, maybe a butter, ACV to clarify, a protein treatment, Ayurveda, gel, hair spray/sheen and that's it. I found I really don't need a bunch of different products that basically do the same thing, and I can go from start to finished look with these staples. But I'm always looking for a way to simplify and have good alternates on stand-by.

My staple products that I always run to are, eggs, good water (not hard water), dr. bronners, vinegar, rosemary tea, cator oil, baking soda, lemon juice or lime juice, tea tree eo, rosemary eo, peppermint eo.

If I don't have some of my products on this list, I will get up out of my nice warm bed, with my husband, to go get my products!

I am so glad that I can make my own products! You can't discontinue a lemon. It grows on trees! I will find some one with a lemon tree and ask if I can have one.

For ten years consistently, I would not change my products nor would I let my stylist put his products in my hair because they didn't work as good as my own. However, when I stumbled upon LHCF, I started thinking about how the Feature of the Month candidates have nice looking hair, the same length as mine or longer, with products that were less expensive. That made me think.

Thanks to these hair boards and my stylist, I found some good substitutes that cost a whole lot less and gives me the same results. With the extra money that’s left, I stock up on more substitutes . . . plus my stylist prefers the substitutes better, because they have better “detangling elements.”

In a way, I want to give up the Verifen Complex line because of the price; but on the other hand, I don’t because they're concentrated. My refill shampoo last a whole year if used consistently and that's not bad for $26.95 (discount applied). The conditioner is still good even though I ordered it ten years ago. (I'm not kidding.) So right now, I’m alternating them with my secondary staples until I reach a definite conclusion.
