Do you still notice growth, or are you trimming to keep your hair in a particular cut? I'm considering doing this, so I can gradually build my hair back up to maximum thickness. But I want growth as well.

For one entire year I commited to trim every 8 to 10 when I got my relaxer. I retained about 4 1/2 inches of growth with thickness all the way through to the ends. They were raggedy but no longer. Since coming here a month or so ago I am now considering my options, Only because my hair is under control and my ends are up 80% of the time. If I should see a split I have no problems going back to every 8 and still feeling I will have growth and thickness. I hate long hair for the sake of having long hair and its only 6 strands!

That's the main reason why I want to start. I got a perm and trim and my hair feels marvelous after the trim, although it is shorter, but what was cut had to come off, point blank. She told me I needed to keep up with my trims every 6-8 weeks when I got touch-ups. I thought to myself, yeah right, and I thought about the times I used to get them every 6-8 weeks with another stylist and I was barely retaining length.

Then, I realized that she was cutting too much and I left her. This new girl trimmed my hair nicely, even though I came to her with hair so uneven, some pieces hung under my armpits while others were sitting on my shoulders somewhere. Good gawd.

I don't know how she managed to cut as little as she did, which is why I think I'll try this thing out for about 6 months to see what my results are.

I probably trim about every 8 weeks. I retain length since my hair grows more than I'm cutting off. I rarely loose ends either. It's growing, but it takes more time and it doesn't show as much since I usually wear it curly.

I understand. My hair always grew but my ends would be D-R-Y! The first couple were 1/2 inchers but then it was 1/4 inchers. People were complementing me on how thick my hair was getting. After being here now I'm going to ask her to dust, I mean 1/8 of an inch. If that works I'll see what every 20 weeks looks like. The hair I have looks soooo much better. It won't hurt. Girl be like me and make her give you a hand held mirror to make sure you can trust her.

I don't trim every 6-8 weeks right now but I used to trim every 8-10 weeks. Basically, everytime I got a touch-up I got my hair trimmed. A few times my stylist would say I didn't need it but then a few weeks later, I'd KNOW I need one. So, I just started getting it at every relaxer, needed or not so I wouldn't have to go back in the middle. (I mean, who really enjoys sitting for 3 hours before they even acknowledge you or start on your hair?? not me! once every 10 weeks was quite enough!)
