I own both the MaxiGlide and the Sedu!
MaxiGlide: Heavy but it works. Pins snag my hair (which is fine and anemic) but it works fine when I flat iron my daughter's hair. I don't use the steam, as our hair is natural and will revert.

Sedu: Lightweight, maybe a little too lightweight. My hair gets caught/snagged in the edge border of the Sedu. I can't seem to get a nice curve or flip on like I can with my HAI. I can only pull it straight and that's boring. I need a little curve for style. Also, doesn't seem to get as hot as my HAI. So far, I like the HAI Convertible the best. It's very no-nonsense.

Thanks for the tips, browndilocks and Inana04.

You're welcome. The key to the Sedu is using small parts of hair, then gliding down the hair in one very steady and slow stroke. For example, the way I flat iron is as follows:

1 - Part hair in 4 sections.

2 - Each of the 4 sections have 3 of their own sub-sections made with vertical parts. So basically it looks like 3 columns per section.

3 - I flat iron each column by making horizontal parts of hair no thicker than 1/2 a pencil.

I can't knock other irons like the CHI, Fhi, etc. because I haven't tried them. The Sedu was the first flat iron I purchased since my high school days of those big, bulky Gold N Hot flat irons (do they stil make those?). Anyway, I struck gold on my first purchase while oddly enough, looking to purchase CHI. I went to folica.com to get one but when I read the reviews for the Sedu, I went ahead and purchased one... way before it was mentioned on this board. I was really amazed the first time I used it & have been using it ever since.

I'm going to purchase one of these irons and it is hard choosing when there are so many. I know I dont think I want the teeth so, I'm guessing now that it will be between sedu and the fhi.

I'm also trying to find a good blow dryer.......still reading reviews but, I think it will be the babybliss as it appears to be within my budget.

Thanks for all the comments above on these irons.

I just bought a SEDU yesterday. :yay: I'm trying to stretch to 12 weeks (which is four weeks longer than normal for me). I was scared to use any sort of heat because I am mostly anit-heat but all the good reviews convinced me to give the SEDU a try. I have fine strands/medium density relaxed hair and I was scared a flat iron would make it too straight. But I tried it for the first time to day on freshly washed air-dryed hair and was very pleased. I set the temp at 320 and went over segments just once. My hair ended up with a nice shine, not dryed out, smooth but not too straight, and still kept some fullness. The whole process only took between 10-15 minutes. My only regret is I didn't get a smaller plate size (to get those roots). But so far no other complaints. I hope I don't get addicted!

If you are looking to buy a SEDU, ULTA has them on sale for $99 dollars (regular price $129). I went to one in Tampa on Black Friday but they were all sold out, so I ended up buying one from a vendor closer to my home. When I was inquiring about when they planned to restock them, one of the stylist got up in my biz and demanded to know how I found out about the SEDU. :D She said they she loved it on her clients and for her on personal use. She's had hers for 5 years with no problems.

I own maxiglide and love it. I try not to use it often maybe once every 4 months or so. But when I do, it looks like I had a perm. lol. If you are going to use the teeth (which I do) make sure you section your hair in very small sections.

I love my maxiglide. I still want a Sedu though for no other reason than I just curious.

I hardly ever use my maxiglide since rollersetting and wrapping have been working so well for me. When I do use it I use both plates (teeth and smooth). I love the steam burst.

Which heat protectants does everyone use? I used to use Dudley's pressing creme but it left a build up on my Maxiglide appliance.

Everything that I've ever used with Maxiglide has left build up unfortunately.

I now have both. I recently purchased a sedu flat iron. I ordered it on Wednesday on folica and received it on Friday. I haven't taken it out of the box yet and my hair is really too short to wear it but I plan to use it on my daughter's hair. I have used the maxiglide on her hair before and it came out great (on 2 or 3 setting) so I figure I can try the sedu on her as well, at the low setting.

Which one do you prefer? I'm going to purchase one in January, but can't decide which one to get!
Also, please list what you prefer about it. :)

I used to own both but I got a refund for the maxiglide. Sedu hands down is the better iron. I would post comparison pics but my attachment files are too large and I don't know how to resize them. :ohwell:

ETA:
Okay - I figured it out. I actually did a Maxiglide/Sedu comparison thread a while ago. Anywho - the first pic is the back of my hair once I blow dried. The second pic is of my hair after the Maxiglide. The third pic is 2 weeks later after I washed blow dried and used the Sedu. As mentioned, the steam on the Maxiglide is great, but it snags hairs. The Sedu always produces a very sleek look. I tried but I'm no good at taking pics of the back of my hair, so this will have to do. I am a natural 4A btw. Currently, the back is WL and the front is a little shorter.

ALL OF THESE PICS WERE TAKEN IN FEBRUARY 2006.

 There's nothing like comparison pics for proof! You have beautifulllll hair Browndilocks! I agree, the Sedu did a much better job ;)

That does it ... I'm getting a Sedu.

Browndilocks you have a beautiful head of hair girl. I love it!! What product do you use when you flat iron. I had (threw in the garbage) a Maxiglide as well. It worked great as long as I detangled really well beforehand and with, 4a-z hair, that is diffucult to do when you have 2 years of new growth. It still pulled out a lot of my hair even though I followed everyones tips on here. One day I had to take a doublelook at the Maxiglide ...:eek::eek::eek: ... Silver was peeking through the plates. They say that the plates are ceramic but they are ceramic-coated -- the coating was wearing off  so I just threw that thing in the garbage.

I am getting a Sedu for myself once I reach my first 25 pounds. :D

Thank you Browndilocks for the comparisons ... (don't forget to tell me what you use when you flat iron k?)

 It's only ceramic coated! Teeth ripping out hair!:( .....well that does it (reading this and seeing Browndilocks gorgeous results have me convinced) I'm getting a Sedu!:)
Now my next mission is to find the best deal on a Sedu....I think I read that someone found one for $99 at ULTA!? Do they have a website? *off to search*
Thanks everyone!:)

I finally ordered a Sedu this weekend! :D :D I am even more happy because Folica seems to have an excellent return policy so if I don't like it, (hopefully that won't be the case) I can return it. :D I should be getting it before Christmas with the upgraded shipping for only $5 extra so I will be able to test it out very soon. I am sooooo excited!!!!

Was it the sedu that people saying that the outside got too hot and you couldn't hold it with your other hand while using it? Does anyone have this problem with their sedu? Maybe it was the solia??? I don't remember.

I love, love, love my sedu :drunk: I've said it before & I'll say it again.....by far the best hair investment I've made since joining this board. This appliance has saved me so much "salon money." I once stretched 5 months with help from my sedu and people would still say "you don't look like you need a relaxer." It gets my hair so silky, and I can feel my hair bounce when I walk. Sedu+Lacio Lacio=Silky, bouncy hair :) .

So Lacio with Sedu is all that huh?
