WHO INTENDS TO WASH N GO THIS WINTER?

TRANSITION OVER! 11-22-14
I know I said twists was great for my hair, but some days, I'd love to wash n go. I did it when I first BCD because I had no choice. Now, I'd like to know if anyone does this and retains their growth.:yep: What methods/products would you use? Thanks in advance!

Hmmm...IDK if I'm qualified to answer this since my hair isn't long and this is my first winter as a natural (as far as retaining and what not...I guess I'll know how much I retained come spring lol). But since it has yet to be consistently cold here, I've been back and forth with wash and gos and buns. I wouldn't say that I plan to wash and go the entire winter. Once it is more consistenly cold I plan on just wearing a bun. I'm not doing anything special really, but on the days when it is a little cool, I whip out my blow dryer to help me out a bit before I step out. The rest is same ole same ole. Styling gel and activator gel (Eco and Long Aid usually). An oil (sweet almond currently) and CHI keratin mist underneath. Tis all lol. My hair doesn't seem to mind it.

This is my first winter natural i will be doing wash and go's i dont see why i wouldnt
its the same as any other style in winter you just need to add more moisture same as twisting bunning etc imo

i intend on washing and going quite often this winter. i said before braid outs will be my thing this winter because i have mastered them and i think i will do them some weeks but for the most part w&g is my go to style. why? because its quick and easy and predictable for the most part. i can wake up late and do a wash and go and get where i need to be on time lol.
also i just recently learned how to get second and third day hair from w&g so i dont have to co wash everyday.
and my hair is full BSL pushing MBL. i just co wash, add leave in(lately ive been wearing naked hair so no leave in) wrap in a towel for 15 minutes, shake and go.

oh and the products i use on w&g:
AO GPB for co washing with a kick of protein
curl junkie curl rehab for co wash/moisture
curl junkie smoothing lotion for detangling
kinky curly knot today for a leave in and sometimes i add kccc scrunched into my ends.

Technically this is my 2nd Winter as a natural...i BC'd in January so....all i remember is i was doing some of everything...of course...i was excited about my hair...still am...but i've been retaining length just fine with my wash n go's:yep:

So yeah i plan on continuing my regimen....just avoid products with glycerin...or cut back on them.

But my hair is long enough to make a bun so i will be rocking them as well:)

yes I do and I do all the time, i use mixed chicks and i use a creamy conditioner sometimes and leave it in. no gel

It's way too cold in NYC for a wash & go in the winter.

I have to sit under the dryer for at least 10 minutes. My drive to work is about 1 hour so I can dry more in the car. If I was on the train, I'd never wash & go in the winter since I'd need to be outside too much.

I am not sure if I retain as much when wearing my hair out, although it shrinks to above my shoulders/clothes so it's not being damaged by those things.

What is the alternative to a wash and go? Not wash at all? :perplexed

Wash then braid overnight for braidout

Wash stretch air dry then twist which are kept for a couple weeks

Wash roller set

Wash blow dry flat iron etc

Any alternative to walking outside with a wet head.

Ask me again in March and I'll let you know/see any retention, but I plan on WnG this winter because I have added mid week co washing back into my reggi so wet hair will be inevitable. NC winters aren't too harsh though. I can't vouch for what will happen good or bad, but with castor oil all things are possible...:look::grin:

I was going to do rinsing my twists, but if I can wash n go with no problem, I'd be so happy! I think I will try it for awhile to see if it sparks my hair growth.

I believe I will be doing them in addition to a few other styles. I am finding P&Sing is not really for me (but I'm not totally giving up). I always did W&Gs and wet buns (until I found LHCF and started experimenting) even through the winter on texlaxed hair and never had a problem before.

I just wash, condition, detangle and go. I used to use Pantene shampoo and conditioner but I am experimenting with different brands now. I haven't found any new staples so I may actually go back to Pantene conditioner, at least through the winter.

DDTexlaxed you know I forgot to answer your question about retaining length. Yes I do retain my length when wash n go. I have never had a problem with my wash n go's it is when I started trying new products that I had a problems and that is one of the reason why I am going back to what I know. I will just keep it real simple with the products that I mention with conditioner or mixed chicks.

I need advice on hats. I usually wash every other day, but now that I'm sick I just want my head covered and warm for at least a week to get my immune system up. It's that time of year right now here where you shouldn't leave the house without a hat. I know that wool is bad for hair, and i can see more hair in my comb since I have been wearing my beanie for more than a week. What kind of winter head gear do you all use? I was thinking of getting my sewing kit out and lining the inside of my beanie with satin. I have also decided that I shouldn't wash and go until spring. Instead I'm going to wash and bun at night so my hair is dry by morning and my pores closed. I want to not be sick Winter 2011',12'.

ohh I would like to reply to the op and say that the longer my hair gets the less wash and go's are good for retaining length. Or when I'm in hats often. Or when my hair is touching wool and cottony things to often. Except my pillow. I don't like the feel of satin pillows.
