Who here has drastically simplified their regimen?

Are you getting the same results? I'm about to simplify my regimen big time and would like to hear from others who have done the same.

What is your old regimen vs. new regimen?
What have been your results?

Has anyone seen better results from simplifying?

Hmmmm.... I'm not sure if my regimen was complex to begin with... I know I haven't tried any new products in a while, so my experimenting says are almost over. Until I am all natural, I guess. Trying out new products meant risking bad results e.g. when I tried Infusium as a leave in before a rollerset in 2007 - breakage galore.

I cowash 3-4 times a week, DC 1-2ce weekly, moisturise and seal 1-2ce daily. Hairstyles are in my siggy.

My hair is so used to (and loves) my new routine and I don't have any problems right now...

Well I just started caring for my hair this year at the end of January but I never had a very detailed regimen.

I just didn't think it would be good for me to try to many things as I was trying to get to know my hair.

I decided to just stick with the same process for 3 months and switch it up if I had any problems.

I only had major problems when I stepped away from what I had been doing, so I went back to it.

Each week I do a hot oil treatment or protein treatment on dry hair, wash with either a moisture or protein poo, and deep condition with a moisturizing conditioner and rollerset.

I don't like doing much more than that and I really don't have time, my hair is coming along.

Thank you ladies!

I've been trying some ayurveda, but I'm about to stop once I use up what I have. I will continue to Henna, because that is the BOMB. However, the Shikakai, Amla, and all that I can do without. I'm thinking about doing away with my conditioner cocktails as it gets to be too much after a while. I've had success just doing one conditioner, and I'm getting tired of mixing like 3 conditioners, oil, honey, etc... The ladies who I consider my hair idols have the most simple regimens.

I used to wash, deep condition once or twice a week, and rollerset after each wash. I had good results with that regimen because it helped me get to ear length to SL in a year.

Now I wash and deep condition every two weeks. I wear a bun for the week and on the weekends I cowash and wear a braid out. This regimen is much better in my opinion because its mostly protective styling and it takes a lot less time. My ends are better and I lose less hair!

I didn't exactly have a regimen. I was just using a gazillion products, thinking that using a lot of good products would be even better than using the few good products that I was using before. I was also washing and conditioning every other day, sometimes everyday.

Sometimes less is more.

Doing all of that stuff grew old very fast, so I went back to simplicity. I now wash and condition once a week, and moisturize and seal once, or twice a day and my hair is doing great.

That would def. be me.

This is why when folks ask me for my regimen, I unfortunately have no secret potion, no special technique, no secret combination of powders or products etc. (that I know of) responsible for my current length.

However, the two rules I MUST follow are protective styling and the elimination of heat. After that, all else falls into place. I deep condition every two weeks but besides those three things, nothing else is consistent in my regimen and really necessary. Fun to try but not needed in order to achieve my goal IMHO.

On my way to WL, I don't take any risk dying trimming, flat ironing, ingesting, weaving, braiding...it takes patience and a boring life. But if you have those two ingredients, you're in there like swimwear! After WL, that my friend will be another story :)

I used to co wash every day or every other day. I have stopped. I now wash once a week, DC once a week. Moisturize and Bun. Cannot get any simpler than that. Im thinking of using BT again.

At the beginning of my journey, I was doing a lot more like washing 2-3 times a week and using a lot more products. I was trying to find what I needed I guess. Now I wash and DC 1x every 2 weeks, moisturise and seal as needed and protective style. I detangle/comb maybe 3x a week. I think my hair is a lot thicker now.

I have recently simplified my regimen tools. I'm no longer using a comb to detangle. I'm going to fingercomb my hair to get shed hair out. I was having alot of breakage w/combs so... I'm also twisting my hair at all times unless wearing a twistout or certain natural hair style but only for a max of 2-3 days and then its going to be twisted back up.

This is all in an effort to curb breakage and knots/tangles.

Wash and DC once every two weeks.
Moisturize every other day.
Oil scalp once a week.
Protective style.

I have.

When I first joined, I was Mega-tekking. I still love that conditioner and use it for my protein needs occasionally...but applying it to my scalp every couple of days was way too much work for my schedule. I also sat under the bonnet after each wash and style because I was roller setting. Between that and PSing and deep conditioning, it was taking me 2-3 hours to wash, condition, dry, and style. :wallbash:

Now, I wash and condition in the shower 1-2 times per week, shea butter my whole head, twist, and call it a day until the next wash. Sometimes I use Aloe Vera gel, and sometimes I don't. I use PC 1-2 per month. Now, it takes me about 45 minutes from start to finish unless I am trying something new (rare event.) I only comb in the shower under water with conditioner in my hair. BTW...I tried detangling and twisting hair that was fully dry a couple of days ago.

Let's just say :nono::nono:.

The simpler, the better, and my hair is thriving.

I was cowashing, henna-ing, rollersetting...on a weekly or monthly basis (depending on the treatment). Mixing condishes and all this stuff. May not be complicated for many but it kind of was for me.

Now I detangle, wash, dc and cornrow under a half wig. I only refresh it once a week. Moisturize at night when necessary. Relax every 10 weeks or so and trim twice a year.

If I keep relaxing, this should easily take me to or beyond BSL by this time next year.

I've gone from daily co-washes, weekly henna, detangling wet hair, trying to wear my hair out daily and generally overdoing the moisture to:

1x/ week wash and DC (I add a henna treatment every other wash day, so 2x/month)

1 mid-week co-wash with a protein conditioner (probably will cut this out for the winter)

90% bunning

YEs! I have simplified my regimen big time! I've been away for a while now, but during that time, I had did a test run on myself, lol! I was one of the ladies who was a big time PJ! I mean, I bought just about any and everything that someone mentioned did wonders for their hair, it became confusing! :spinning:. I had to pull myself away from the computer and get in touch with my own hair needs. I stopped rotating so many hair products on my hair and stopped piling everything on all at once. I use to add honey, peppermint oil and coconut oil to my deep conditioners, but i found that step to be unnecessary when I noticed my hair thrived, still, without a mixture of some sort. I use the conditioners straight the way they came. I now wash my hair once a week, deep condition once a week or sometimes every two weeks. I wear my hair down, enjoy it and bun it every now and then. I stay focused on my ends, moisturize it every other day and sometimes i seal it and other times I don't seal it with oil. I use coconut oil, only, by the way. I don't meddle with my hair much like I use to...I leave it be most of the time. I use biomatrix shampoo or cream of nature(green label) to keep it clean, deep condition with Affirm deep conditioner, or KBB moisture mask(use this once a month) or SE cholesterol.....these conditioners, I still rotate in between. I use Afroveda's cocoa mask to moisturize my hair or KBB's hair milk and hair creams.:lick: I love these....they are the only products I believe I need now to keep my hair moisturized! My leave ins(when I do use a leave in) is lacio lacio....I swear by that stuff. This is simplified for me, because in the beginning, I was using every product under the sun:nono:, until I realized I was doing waaaay to much....and begin to feel a little....rediculous. :ohwell: But I'm good now, lol.

I cut down my PJ-ism more than routine although I did have a multistep routine with alot of diff products that I rotated. I found that I didn't need all that or all those products to get the job done and I didn't need that many steps for my reggie and I got longer stronger hair with less effort. Let's say my old reggie was a full page long with about a dozen products. Now it's a few lines with a handful of products. the link is in my siggy

When I first started, I would co-wash daily and do my DC/Ayurveda routine 2x a week. Now, I just co-wash and add shea butter to my hair once a week. I bun everyday. I like it more. I think my hair is happy with the low manipulation.

Yes. I didn't do a drastic change but I was cowashing everyday or every other day, doing protein treatment on a regular basis and using pretty expensive products. Now I have a set of expensive shampoo and conditioner that I use like once a month or when needed, and a cheaper set for the majority of the time. I only wash about every week, week and a half, and typically I'll do two strand twist as a hairstyle. And I only use a tiny bit of jasmine oil in my hair when styling. My hair is doing just fine this way. Less is definitely more.
