changing from No-lye back to Lye? I am thinking about going back to a no-lye relaxer. I'm not sure yet. Any feedback or information would be great. If there is a thread that you know of that mentions this topic, could you direct me to it?

I used to switch back and forth all of the time with no ill effects. This was before I even realized the difference between lye and no-lye. I would believe it can be done successfully if you avoid overlap. Just curious. Why are you going back to no-lye?

No lye is the one you have to mix right??? well here is a horror story for you... i just to use the perm that was mixed already (lye) and my hair was coming out from the roots when i washed it out...LOL (no lye was my first perm and i was switch) but it could of been the fact that my boyfriend did my hair lol i was young and stupid lol thank goodness it is alright now...but i now i use the one you have to mix and my hair is fine

Re: Which Is Worse: Going From Lye to No-Lye ....

i don't think switching back and forth either way is all that bad. the thing that i don't like is switching from brand to brand all the time. i know someone who lost hair from doing that. it wasn't that what she was using didn't work. she was just always searching for the next best thing. your hair pays when you do that. what don't you like about the no-lye? and what made you switch to lye in the first place?

whatever you decide to do, stick with it.

Re: Which Is Worse: Going From Lye to No-Lye ....

Ballet_bun,
I was thinking of doing the same thing until I started using Revlon Realistic (Lye). Every other lye relaxer would leave my hair under processed.

I would say that if what you are using has been working well for you, stick with it. The only reason to switch is if you are currently having negative effects from your relaxer.

I haven't yet experienced this but I've seen friends switch here and there to try out new relaxing products and their hair really suffered.

I was thinking of switching to a kids relaxer ... thinking that it would be milder and so on. My hair started shedding a lot when i switched to the Affirm Lye ... the shedding could be due to other things too. However, before this, my hair was fine, except for it being very dry.

Also, I really miss using Sheenique senstive scalp relaxer. It wasn't as harsh on my scalp. I'm going to try with the Affirm a little longer, but I am considering Switching ... still not sure yet.

I've gone back and forth a zillion times without suffering any kind of negative effects. I'm not very consistent when it comes to relaxers, since I change hairdressers so much.

Re: Which Is Worse: Going From Lye to No-Lye ....

I'm bumping this, because the last 2 relaxers I did mizani lye which didn't get my hair as straight as I would like...and they burned a little too much for my taste.

I miss my African Pride......but my hair is doing so well, I'm afraid to switch...

Anyone?

Re: Which Is Worse: Going From Lye to No-Lye ....

bump...again

Any people here that have switched from lye to no-lye with no problems???

Re: Which Is Worse: Going From Lye to No-Lye ....

I went back to no-lye from lye and would have been fine if the hairdresser hadn't overlapped. The hair done with lye that was overlapped, didn't break off. But the last 3 inches or so, which had always had no-lye, had breakage. That's because they had been overlapped in the past and the poor things just couldn't take it anymore.

Now I do my own touch-ups, I went back to African Pride.

Re: Which Is Worse: Going From Lye to No-Lye ....

Thanks for responding, I'm really concerned that I might get breakage especially since I just got highlights, maybe I'll wait a few relaxers to switch...
