The black coating of the ones I use chip. Within a week of using a new one, it turns from black to silver, which is awful since much of that black coating likely ends up in my hair. ugh.

I need good recommendations for quality hair pins.

Amish pins are okay. They are steel though so the metal will be visible in some styles. I like that they are sturdy and hold thick hair well.

I have the same problem with temh turning silver. Ad I find the black stuff in my hair and on my fingers when I finger detangle. Great question OP?! Are the Sally's brand all plastic or metal?

Whatever pins sally's sells in a container with a black lid.... best pins on the planet...

I use Good Hair Day Magic Grip Hair Pins. They are all plastic. I love them and they do not pull hair out.

could yall post links please? I'd like to make sure I get the right one.

I like both of these:

Magic Grip pins ( good day hair pins)

Goody's spin pins (FABULOUS for buns and updo's):

These are great for when I don't need a tight grip, but they still give really good hold and don't snag. I use them for buns.

These are the jumbo bobby pins I mentioned before. They have a tighter grip, but don't snag like regular bobby pins. They do come in a smaller pack, but I couldn't find the link to that one.
