I don't think I will be flat ironing anytime soon, but when or if I do again I am wondering what is the best flat iron to use? The one I have now is just ok.

I visited Folica and read a lot of reviews which just got my head spinning.

I like the wider plates but does that really matter in the end?

@ your siggy: Sydney is my hair Idol as well. I made a video about her on Youtube!

OT: I know the Chi, GHD, Babyliss and the Sedu are the most popular ones i can think of right now. I would suggest you search for reviews on youtube on those four to see how they straighten on black hair. And I think the thicker your hair is the wider the plate should be, if i am correct.

I have a cheapie Revlon flation that i bought at Rite-Aid for like 20 bucks that works better than my Conair that i paid 50+ bucks for. I am sure others will chime in.

usually the longer your hair is the wider the flatiron you might "need" but really its personally preference. the wider one will just flatiron more of your hair at the same time, but the smaller ones work just as well.

ive used a CHI. not the recent recent red/black one. but the ones labeled the original chi it only goes up to 370 degrees, doesnt have temp control and to me personally didnt work as well as others in its price range, my hair constantly felt like it was being pulled.

Solia to me worked better than the chi. has temp control and higher temp range, hair was straighter than chi

last one i tested was a paul brown hawaii , again i personally feel it worked better than chi. it has temp control, higher temp range. didnt snag at all, hair was straighter than chi

i agree with checking youtube to find the best flatiron for your hairtype

I have a T3 Medium Duality flat iron & I like it. It has temperature control & tourmaline & ionic technology. I like that it doesn't take long to heat up, and that you don't have to do a lot of passes to get the hair straight.

FHI :)

I tried a Chi on my cousin's natural 4a/b hair and it reverted as soon as it cooled down. As I went along straightening, I'd have to touch up the already-straightened ends. By the time we got to the beach her afro had returned. Lol.
I 2nd what Silvergirl says though. The Chi snagged my hair like a mutha :(

I used the FHI and her straight hair lasted until her next wash, which happened to be 1-2 weeks later.

I got the FHI for cheaper from some website... I forget which. Chi was $140 from Ulta, and the FHI was like $97, shipping included :O I've always gotten better, silkier results with the FHI. :)

Please try to remember where you got a FHI from at that price!

I would also like to know of a good flat iron. I hear good things about FHI, sedu and even a new one by Paul Mitchell (this one I want to try).

Everyone in my salon including me uses Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium 1 Inch Flat Iron Straightener BABNT3072. This size allows you to curl your hair with it too. It is spendy but you can get the set which comes with a mini iron clips and a heat resistant mat for about $120. http://www.brightonbeautysupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=7407 Tips on picking out a flat iron: at least get a ceramic (not just ceramic coated) and make sure you can adjust the temp (not just on/off)
