hi, cocoagirl! i don't know of anywhere in brooklyn, but if you don't mind taking the train up to queens, then I know for sure where you can find it there! :D
depending on where you are in brooklyn, you can take the R train to the Roosevelt Avenue Station in Queens, which will leave you in a neighborhood called Jackson Heights, where there are a lot of Southeast Asians. Also, if are Manhattan already, you can take the 7 train to the 74th Street Station in Queens, and you will be in the same neighborhood, Jackson Heights. Once in Jackson Heights, there are many Indian supermarkets where you can get amla and shikakai very cheaply.
I'm sure the NYC divas will be sure to chime in and help you soon! :)

I'm in Brooklyn but I have to go to the city to get my powders! :) I go to "little India" on 28th street (take the 6 train) and go to Kalustyans or one a store that is next to this little bodega. However, they were both sold out BUT the last store we went to heading back the station, we saw one store and went in. POWDERS were in STOCK! I find it so funny because the other two said women came in and "cleaned them out!" HAHAH. :)
Good luck!

I went to Kalustyan's and bought Neem and Shikakai but they were out of Amla as was the store next door. Does anyone know of any stores in Brooklyn, close to Bed Stuy, that carries powders? I found Taj Grocery on Fulton online, anyone been there? Their phone number is busy...

SOS..SOS.. WAVING FLAG PLEASE HELP, LOL..
Yes, I checked that website and all of those stores either don't exist anymore or are small grocery stores that only sell food. Does anyone know of another store in Manhattan that would carry Amla and other powder besides Kalustayans?

Can you get to Nanuet in Rockland county? On Rt 59 there are a few stores. Right off of the thruway exit. I live further upstate about 30- 45 min depending on traffic. I make it my Saturday trip, and go into New Jersey to get cheap gas:grin:
